Zooval became boring

I think people are misunderstanding the story, you see all these clues about the jailor motives, like how after life really is more like slave work, how everything feels a prison, we all thought about this but thats the twist! Twist is that you thought he had motives but he doesnt he is just an edgy bad guy! 10/10 best plot twist.

I guarantee that 10 year old children would make a better and more exciting story.

I remember the story telling and character lines from the Original WoW aka Vanilla, TBC, WRATH:

  • Arthas, after Frostmourne was broken by Ashbringer:
“Now I stand, the lion before the lambs… and they do not fear. They cannot fear.”

  • Every boss from Wod and After:
    “Die, Mortals”

  • Probably Zooval, 2022, patch 9.2:
“Die Mortals, I will destroy your world”

Became boring?

Zovaal was boring from the moment of conception. There’s no becoming involved.

Worst Bad Guy ever!

I just love how we’re somehow supposed to care more because they retcon a bunch of old lore to squeeze in a literal who and then try to tell us he was always there.

At least that’s some creative thinking

Not really.

In the first trailer he seemed to sound absolutely different, and looked more like some sort of old king with vicious look.

But after they made him The Rock Zoval Johnson.

If Arthas spent less time talking he might have won. If he killed Tirion instead of making him an ice cube pet the world would have been over run with scourge by now.

Pathetic mortals

I’ve seen what 10-year-olds have written, and while I understand your direction, they would not hold a whole story of the size of Shadowlands together.

I would instead compare it to fanfic, which can be endlessly elaborate while still … unsatisfying. The actual problem is that now we have a damaged story. I can imagine general the idea of the Jailer was in Metzen’s original story map; Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination must have been conceived with an origin. And the unwinding of that story could have been amazing. But it wasn’t.

I was leveling in the olden zones recently and SL “recontextiolizing” most of WoWs lore really damages them, there are many things that make zero sense whit the new context.

But at least they can blame that on actually being 10 year olds, and it not being a profession they’ve studied for…

Yes… is a bidimensional generic enemy… incredible the difference with the first chapters or kiljaden.

Ghuun should receive an academy award as main actor compared to zovaal.

Here’s the thing, being 2 dimensional or generic is fine, lazy but fine. The problem is that Blizzard are pushing really hard on how the Jailer is this super mastermind that executed plans that snap tens of thousands+ years, everything we have gone through from the original RTS up until SL has been part of his plan, great villains in the Warcraft universe are actually cogs in his machine… And yet he is just evil bad guy with no character or charizma whatsoever. Like I said being generic is fine, but when you are banking so much on a character like that you are doomed to fail.

Also we have no idea what his end goal actually means or what the stakes are. What does “unmake/reshape reality” actually mean ?
