Error 1016 when idle for a short while

I literally can’t even log into the game today, after i pass the authentication process i instantly get error 1016, nothing else is running on my pc at that time, just battle net app and diablo 3, i tried to restart client several times, around 7 i think but every sinle time same result.

All the same issues as everyone else for me. Followed the blue post guides for troubleshooting; router restart, DNS flush, disabling IPv6, running in compatability, added to antivirus whitelist, updated drivers, uninstalled Razer Synapse (laughable they’d blame another program) but nothing has worked so far. Currently re-downloading the entire game to try a fresh install. I’m not hopeful.

Tried most of the steps, some helped a bit, some did not. To be sure I completely reinstalled windows 10. Nothing wrong in device manager, so just Installed nvidia drives. Downloaded D3 and installed from scratch. After a bit of gameplay I can only say it happens still. So I downloaded official drivers for my laptop, installed hoping it might have been drivers… no change. Never ever before I had disconnect issues. Please stop telling players that there is something wrong on their side when clearly quite a lot of them are experiencing the exact same issue. Gonna try the asia servers, maybe they are Corona free. If I manage to play 2 hours without getting DC i will post here

For the last 3 days I tried to play I had the same error occur, and that even while Im moving, to the point Im simply unable to complete a single bounty or a rift. Interestingly enough, I played in a party for a few hours yesterday (like 5 or so) and … I never got dced once. But as soon as Im back to playing solo, the error starts hitting back. So when I play alone, I cant go 30 minutes without being kicked out, but when I play with someone else, theres no problem. Im having a really hard time believing this problem is on peoples side.

Its also happening to me for quite some time (since the previous season). most of the time it luckily happens while i’m in town. which so convenient because i’m on hardcore. But this season, it happened just after I enter the greater rift, result – dead hero. And I just got my free set, so I had to re-level again the hard way.
Back to the problem, it started when we had some issue with authentication servers. (that they admitted and told us they’re working on it.) which I think until now wasn’t resolved. Since then, my login almost always fail in “Retreiving hero list” in the first time, and get the error 1016. But when I try again immediately, it will always succeed.

Got killed on HC again from this error. Can you fix your shit?

Hello all, because Blizzard is not working, I have tried all advices and still have the error 1016. I have read that when you use VPN, it is working without problem. So I have pay for VPN, set the server and again error 1016, but I have search about the VPN and the change is when you connect VPN thru static IP. Today for first time, from last update, I have played for more than 2 hrs without problem. So try to install VPN, connect wia static IP and try if this can help you. Also Blizzard have to correct the error which we must bypass with VPN.

Indeed, VPN should be used, i’m playing without problems for two days.
I’m using ProtonVPN (there are 6 days free trial) - Anyone who has a problem should try with VPN.

Same problems error 1016 come on guys please fix the bloody server or errors we are getting tired and this is getting old.

i can’t not play to diablo 3 at all. i get disconnect every 5 min with error 1016 i’m in quarantaine due to corona virus right now, and i can’t play . the day are long here!
please fix the problem

Does it read at least one cattle from Blitzzard?
I checked error 1016 for 13 players and 12 have this problem.
You start with the unplayability of d3 doing something idiots for this we didn’t pay.

same issue here, please don’t tell it’s my network issue… i’ve been playing this for 8 years now & never had this issue until season 19/20…

p/s: tried all the fix blizzard or external sites suggested, nothing worked.

I have found the solution to my case

I had to change ISP’s, it seems like there is an issue with the specific route my old ISP was using to get to the servers

I have now played for 4 days without any disconnects whatsoever

There has to be a common point on everybody’s route where the fault lies

Which ISP were you with…?

I was with Level-7, I am now with Rain, residing in South Africa
