Hello,
the game recently started freezing for at least 5 seconds at random. It is not a lagg where the frames go down but a total standstill and it is killing me every time. This happens 1-5 times during one single GR with 4 players. Also, other players in the group (unlike when the game is lagging) do not have that problem, at least not at the exact same time.
I recently updated Windows 10 (2004, 64 Bit) and the graphics driver (Nvidia 446.14).
Any ideas or suggestions? ty
Hello,
Iām in the same situation with Windows 10 ā2004ā and my nVdia is on same version than you. As I remember, we had some problems when Windows made lags with Destiny 2 after installation of KB4482887:
After installing KB4482887, users may notice graphics and mouse performance degradation with desktop gaming when playing certain games (eg: Destiny 2).
If Blizzard can investigate or report problem to Microsoft
check if any update lan card
I was not thrilled (pardon the pun) about that suggestion, because silly me thought, that windows update also includes drivers. I did not look even look for a downloadable network device update, I merely went to the adapter settings and checked for an update. Surprise, surprise, there were indeed updates for both my LAN devices (both are bridged so I get 2GBit on local network, plus failure safety). The new network adapter drivers were at least 2 years newer. So, thank you very much for your marvelous suggestion!
I have not yet tested whether these new adapter drivers solve the recent D3 gaming problems, but I am going to report back in within a few days.
BTW: I update the graphics drivers manually (manual download from nvidia) and I figured all drivers get updated by windows update after some time. So, apparently I have to check every device in the device manager manually to get proper updates. Now I am very glad I merely use Windows for gaming (and aerating). On Linux one has a package manager handling software and all updates. If I want new drivers, I update the linux kernel and modules, done.
update (20200531-1651): problem occurs less frequent but still is an issue. one time, it even happened twice with a split second between. so it seems it happens about one time in one out of five GRs or so.
investigation is ongoingā¦
I changed also for last Intelās driver on my LAN cars and always same problemsā¦
Iām having exactly the same problem after the 2004 update.
All drivers have been updated (also nVidia 446.14)
Iām running another Win 10 (1909) on the same PC and have no problems whatsoeverā¦
I am having the same issue as well with the 2004 update. I have started a thread on the Nvidia forums. I āsuspectā it might have something to do with the new WDDM 2.7 support that is only in the 2004 update. I am waiting on a released driver from nvidia that gives this support. 446.14 doesnt have it. IF ANYONE finds a solution please let me know. Its driving me CRAZY
Found that the game freezes for about 8s. See techgpu

I am also on 2004 / Running AMD here. I didnāt have the issue with 1909 however minute ive gone to 2004 issues. I suspect its an issue with 2004 and not anything graphics related .
your guesses are as good as mine, probably even better because i try to make my guesses rime.
managed to get brand new network card drivers by downloading them directly from intel instead of relying on the ones from the device manager.
right after i did this, the windows update demanded a restart. there were a whole bunch (at least 40) of intel-related driver updates now (memory controller, power control unit, monitoring,ā¦).
did not play much d3 thoughā¦ waiting for the new season and hoping for the best, i guess.
samehere everything worked fine then i updated to win 10 2004 and now i get small lag for 1-2 sec atleast once every 5min and i drop frames also just like 2-3 frames really annoying and i tried everything except go back to the win 10 version before win 2004 but im seriously starting to consider doing that.
I had to revert back to Windows 10 1909. I did notice that in older version of Windows 10 these freezes were happening as well, however they only last at most a second. Looks like in Windows 10 2004, when it happens, the game hangs for 5-10 seconds. I think itās a combination of Diablo 3 and Windows. Could be due to WDDM 2.7.
I did check DXDiag, but I did not see any errors related to Diablo 3 or graphics card in the logs.
Updated to latest Nvidia drivers, 451.48 on Windows 10 2004 and this is still happening. But this time I was able to get error readout in DxDiag:
https://pastebin.com/BYwGRu4S
update: the problem is still there. did not play long, in the very first GR there was a 5 sec. freeze before we reached 100% on the counter. later, during pool search, i even experienced 2x 5 sec. freezes with a spit second in between, so this happens also outside GRs.
Iām having the same problem after the 2004 update.Itās always freeze 5-10 sec when I play the game .My VGA card is Rx5700 XT.
Same issue here.
Windows 10 2004 OS Build 19041.329
RX480 4GB with AMD Driver 20.5.1
People are saying that reverting OS version works but I would hate having to do this. This is a workaround not a fix. https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d3/t/games-freeze-for-5-10-seconds/18380
Damn i had no problem until i updated to the 2004 update!
Its just sad because i had no choice, it updated when i reinstalled OS to UEFIā¦
Blizzard needs to fix this! Im loosing my mind, sometime it freezes for 10 seconds!
@Kilmano
Its not a fix for me as I have a clean install of 2004. Anyway thanks for the link I posted some of the info over there as there is some traction from Blue Posts. Looking like maybe a sound dll issue in the D3 folder
hmm I think I have the same issue? scared me cuz I thought my pc was dying anyway what happened to me was during grift my game completely hang/froze screen turned white ish and a window popped up saying application stopped responding end now or wait,i waited few seconds later the game resumed
it did this again not long after the first timeā¦
not sure why never had problems beforeā¦whats going on?
does this sound similar to anyone else?
did yesterdayās d3 patch help? nvidia driver published on july 9th did not.
Hey I had the same issue youāve been experiencing and after many attempts of resolving the issue, disabling Hyperthreading for my CPU did it for me. If youāve overclocked the cpu like me disable turbo, speedstep, c4 states and c-states also. Also search up how to add registry entries for TdrLevel, TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay. 0, 20, 20 respectively.
Iāve tried other fixes suggest on the web and forums such as driver re-install using DDU, setting correct voltages for my overclocked cpu, bios flash for my card, reinstalling d3 but the one that worked was disabling HT and the TDR reg entry.
Hope it helps and fixes your problem, it was very frustrating for me also dying in GRs losing those extra gem upgrades
