Notorious Error 1016, cant play new season

So, you and your neighbour are using the same ISP? That means that you’re both hitting the same initial ISP network hop, and your traffic route will be the same, to the same Blizzard destination. You’re affected, they aren’t. Literally the only node that’s different between you and your neighbour is your local PCs / routers. If the issue was any of the intermediate network nodes, or the destination node, you’d both be affected. This is why Blizzard asks for network traces in order to investigate stuff like this. I don’t see a single WinMTR trace in this thread…

Good day, will be any update error 1016 lost connection ? Don’t tell me it’s wrong with me. It’s going to thousands players on EU server. It’s scary . I pay you a few games like other players so I will be glad when something happened. Thank for informations.

24 times in 2 days, 1016 happened to me. Guess when? While busy with the last bounty quest of a set. Always the last one. Network problem? Yeah right.
Calling for traces and re-booting of computer is BS!! Fix your game.
Until then…
Hastalavista and hello Grim Dawn, Wolcen, Guildwars, PoE and even Solitaire!!!

battlenet is disconnecting for a second for few weeks now … it just wasnt happening that much and to so many … i know cuz to two of my friends it was happening a lot and not to me, with one i was in one room on one internet …

plus i have different problem today …
diablo keeps wanting to be upgraded and it crashing the game … pretty annoying and its quite rare for me to finish GR at this moment with those 2 errors … 1016 and the updates … not that there are any updates, but diablo says i cant play because i have to update, updating the game like 10 times a day …

Hello, I have same problem and I tried everything, I just contacted my ISP, but seems that problem is with “prs-bb4-link (.) telia (.) net” - because when I tried the recommended test with WinMTR - on “prs-bb4-link (.) telia (.) net” there is 90% packet loss… And there is nothing I can do with it.
I play solo, on PC I have this problem, funnily while playing Diablo 3 in couch play on PS4, I get no disconnection even in 4hour sessions (I guess it uses different servers, so it does not go through problematic Telia nodes/hops).
Other than that my connection is stable and I never had problems with anything else than D3 (guess that the “Telia prs-bb4-link (.) telia (.) net” is the issue…)

I tried using a VPN , still have disconnection issue

Perhaps try where it fails with WinMTR - maybe the hop where packet loss starts will be the same with and without VPN.

You have kinda high packet loss even between your computer and I guess your wifi. Any chance you could try it with cable instead? There is 3rd hop which has a lot of packet loss as well, as soon as you would rule out your router/wifi (via cable, then you should get 0 % packet loss on first hop) and if rest would still be higher than few % then I would recommend you to contact your ISP.

The test is done with a cable and not WIFI. I also tried using WIFI (same router), then WIFI using 4G shared by my mobile. And done all these test again using an other computer and each time I got 1016 error randomly.

Both logs showed 17% data packet loss at hop 1, your router/modem.
That means something wrong between your computer and router/modem.
Try steps #1 and #2 in this troubleshooting article:

If problem continues, try other steps, including Advanced Troubleshooting section. Click the BLUE text to expand the details.

If the router/modem is provided by your ISP, you may call your ISP to help troubleshooting.

I figured out that my 4G data connection dont use the same IPS to access to Blizzard IP. I’ll use it to get the 1016 error and give you the report.

Using my 4G connection instead of my router, still have 1016.

This log still has some data packet loss at hop 1.

My home example. First three hops are renamed, just to be safe - first is home network to router, send sub-hop to provider and third is providers and as you can see telia hop is the major issue here…:

When we analyze the log, we don’t just focus on the peak hop, we also check the following hops. We are finding the “trend”. Even telia has 95% data packet loss, this loss doesn’t continue downward. The last hop (server) has only 1% loss.

To explain this, some network devices are configured to de-prioritize ICMP message (used by WinMTR, traceroute, etc.). In other words, give more priority to normal data messages. It is not a problem.

Therefore, don’t worry about telia, and similarly as57976.

Look at the “trend” of data packet loss, you can track back to the starting point, hop 2 “isp subhop”

2% loss and 289ms spark. So, the issue is likely in between hop 1 and hop 2.

Hello, have errors 1016 too. Season 19 was allright. Since Season 20 error 1016 every few minutes.

Well, then explain why I have problems only with D3 on PC and not with D3 on Playstation which is connected to the exactly same network through the same network deviced and same ISP? What’s the difference? And by the way, I have latest drivers on my computer and I have no problems with other online games at all on both platforms.

PS: I appreciate the advice btw, but as it seems quite a lot of people having similar problems.

Take the last hop as example, only 1 loss out of 266 test messages. The rate is low and may not be noticeable in other applications.

D3 is quite sensitive to this kind of spark and may cause 1016 disconnect error.

I don’t know how console version behaves and won’t comment.

Also, I don’t rule out other factors. But from your logs, hop 2 has most suspicious.
