You can ignore users now. Its not really optimal though, but the option is there.
I was bored out of playing Windwalker and wanted to switch to a better DPS spec to support my raid, i logged into my Warlock and then realized i would probably need to play for weeks with it to catch up with my main and pull at least decent DPS. I logged off and went to do something else.
Being more serious, if Blizzard thinks that gating power to a million systems and requirements like azerite power, corruptions, a 15 level cape and tons of currencies will make people play more the game, they are dead wrong. Only a couple people in my guild play their alts due to the extreme time investment required to bring them to acceptable levels of power necessary to raid in Mythic, and even Heroic.
A game that power and character progression is tied to a million systems expel people from playing more than one character, and this is a huge lost of engagement and interest.
Absolutely, BFA has the worst gear system in wow history.
BFA - Bad for Alts
This might be the most stupid mechanic I’ve witnessed in a game. It should not take 3 months of pure time gated content to get caught up.
Don’t bother with that guy, he thinks your alts don’t deserve to be on the same item level with your main, because if you didn’t spend the same amount of time on alt, then you don’t deserve to have him with such power. Guy has serious problems with people who play alts.
This corruption resistance stuff is just a progressive over-time nerfing mechanism that helps guilds progress through raid content by allowing players to become stronger.
MOP had valor point upgrades introduced TWICE in 5.4. First 0/2 and then 0/4. It costed a whole weekly cap (1000 points) to upgrade a single gear piece to 4/4. So it would take months to upgrade them all using this system. Heaven forbid you got something better, eg. warforged version. They haven’t made this mistake in WOD, WOD version of valor upgrades carried no weekly cap and you could upgrade half of your gear from a single-week mythic dungeon sweep.
Alting in this xpac has been atrocious anyway, don’t expect anything decent until ShadowLands. Last truly alt-friendly expansion was Cataclysm. Yes, Cataclysm. Expansion without any mandatory legendary questline (without which your character sucks), without any AP grinds, without any essence grinds, without any other heavily time gated stuff. A guild could easily boost a fresh 85 through farm and have a ready character for progression in 2 resets.
The big difference is it changes the entire game, not just raids.
Therefor the DPS expectation increases ever so slightly every week, leaving others even further behind.
It’s no longer good enough to have a few corrupted pieces, the expectation is to have a bunch of BiS corruptions.
It’s hard for me to get my alts up, I can’t imagine how hard it is for new players who have no idea how the game works.
2nd of September without missing out on either of your +3 resistances a single time is simply not acceptable.
That date is even worse for new people.
I agree with most on this thread, was actually going to make one myself today about this. It is (again) the mixed messages from Blizzard. They put in some much needed catch-up mechanisms for pretty much everything but leave one thing behind, in this case cloak resistance levels.
At this point many people are messing with alts, personally I am considering changing my main for Shadowlands and want to have a look at some other classes. With (a little effort) you can have 470 gear, 90+ neck, essences, azerite traits, corruption in a week or so (depends on the help you get from other I suppose) but the one thing we cannot catch up on is the cloak.
Cores should drop from other activities, Major assault, chance from emissary cache, chance from paragon cache, chance from world boss , even the island turn in, the weekly event (it would get more people of a decent level doing TW for example) you get the idea. I should be possible with time investment (and some RNG, this is blizz of course there will be RNG) to catch up the cloak in a couple of weeks max.
Corruption is an abomination and should have never been implemented in the first place.
Having more random procs allowing you to add so much dps shouldn’t be allowed in this game. A few adjustments like the azerith traits were already enough.
I’ve thought of the best solution for them to implement with minimal fuss.
Leave current drops as they are, but sell extra unlimited cores through MOTHER for 500 echoes. Preferably BOA.
Yep, I just lost all will to try and gear any alts what so ever. 120 and then they can be on hold for the next expansion.
Hopefully Shadowlands will have none of this garbage, but… I think we all know that it will.
Torghast will be exactly the same, if not worse with the mandatory Legendary items required for any M+/Raids/Arena
I’m just farmin cloak for juicy agility proc then it will be: Hmm what should i do, icc 25hc for Invincible, or Horrific Vision? ICC is more enjoyable even after 104192249158 run.
Yes your totally right, why would we make the game skill based when we can make it mindless drone farming based, what a terrific idea, just like dumb mobile games.
Legion was insanely alt friendly in pvp. You could litterally jump straight into ranked pvp after levelling, and i accidently hit higher rating on my second priest than my main priest without any gear, because gear had so little impact.
Did blizzard mention to fix this? 12 weeks to catch up because I started playing mid patch is stupid.
I started to play this char this week.
I dont have even 3 of mine essence at rank 3 to buy so I have get them the old way.
I have a rank 5 cloack.
I have levelled mine key to 9 atm this week.
First on damage as windwalker and I’m having a blast playing this class that I have never played at max level.
Instead of worrying about cath up pick a class you actually enjoy playing and you will not worry about those things.
ok but i was doin 9s without a cloak on many chars, ur point?? do u not see the stupid catch up time gated grind?? its unattractive to new, old, returning players. fire whoever designed it
Then read again what I wrote before fren.
Well, if u’re doing keys at that level my guess is most of the others are also playing catchup with the cloak and gear. Will it be fun if you try to join in the 18+ keys range and be so far behind the others who is caught up on cloak ranks? I doubt it For me its making me just dont bother with alts at all.
And why should I run a 18 on the first week playing a new character first hand?
Never saw a new alt in an 18 even in Legion fren.
