Basically.

I had a thread some time ago that was filled with insulting remarks, name calling, profane language, and so on.
I reported all I could until I hit the limit for how many reports you can make.
Then someone made a post with an insulting remark directed at me.
I respectfully asked that person to edit the insulting remark out of his post.
He did.
Thread went on.
Then the moderators came along.
They didn’t touch anything in the thread. All the insults and profane language is still there.
But they did delete my single post asking another poster to edit an insulting remark he had written.
Because making that request was trolling, as per Blizzard’s unwritten rules. Apparently. The rest was fine.

So you can talk crap on the forums all you want. But woe the person who dares to try and appeal to respect or modesty. Can’t have that going on in the forum discussions. You’ll get banned for that.

Amateur moderators. :unamused:

the problem is that one person whit lots of alts, can flag a post for any reason what so ever.
though there also seems to be people loggin in to theese forum just to flag posts.

I have been silenced twise on theese forums, but both times it was my own fault though, first was when I typed in swedish here, other one becuse I talked about what one nationalitly has done to get a bad rep, and people got butthurt and I had a 7 days silence.
one was lifted also, becuse there was nothing bad in that post, but I got reported again buy people who didnt aggree whit my point of view.

yeah, thats why its best to stay away from everything what could be remotely considered controversial.

its pretty much a hit and miss at this point. im just waiting for someone to mass report me tbh.

DEUS VULT! DEUS VULT!

It’s more a symptom than the cause.

Think about today. It’s Friday. Blizzard’s moderators aren’t back before Monday morning.
So from now and until then, all of us here, as well as everyone else on the other forums – Overwatch, Hearthstone, Diablo, StarCraft, Heroes of the Storm – we’re posting and making reports constantly. That becomes a giant pile of reports before Monday comes around.

Do you think on Monday morning that Blizzard’s moderators go through all of those reports one by one? No, of course not. They don’t have the man-power to do that. They’ll perhaps sort the reports by volume and check the posts that have received the most flags. But the rest of the reports – all the posts that have only received a single flag – they’re just ignored, no action taken.

So the moderators are always directed to the posts that receive a lot of flags. They get scrutinized.
But those posts don’t always violate the Code of Conduct. Usually the posts that receive a lot of flags either present a controversial statement, are written by a high-profile personality, or present a marginal opinion on a popular topic.
But lots of people equal strong disagreement or lack of tolerance on their part with trolling on the other poster’s part. So those kind of posts, and those kind of posters, they get mass-reported all the time.

And if you attract the attention of Blizzard’s moderators too often, they’re going to find some fault eventually. If a dozen people have flagged you for trolling, then the moderator is bound to try and find any flicker of intent that insinuates trolling, otherwise, why would all these people have flagged the post?!

On the flipside, then it is a violation of the Code of Conduct and Forum Guidelines to abuse the report feature. But again, Blizzard don’t have the man-power to look into it, because it’s something they have to spot themselves. We can’t report someone for abusing the report feature. That functionality doesn’t exist.
So if someone hates you on the forum and makes a habit of reporting all your posts, then they can just do that.

Blizzard also only have the man-power to look into the reported posts themselves. So if someone makes a controversial post and 20 people thinks says he’s a stupid, retarded idiot because of what he said, and then proceeds to report him for trolling, then Blizzard will scrutinize that post for trolling. They won’t read the 20 posts below where they call the guy an idiot, a retard, stupid, or similar.
And since there’s a limit to how many reports you can make, the 1 guy can never bring attention to all the harassment that’s going on. But the 20 people who thinks his controversial post is trolling, they can instantly unleash Blizzard on it.

And there’s more. Masked, ongoing harassment, lenience relative to the context of a discussion, time until action is taken, public versus private warnings, length of suspensions, arbitrary suspensions lengths, the incredibly vague definition for trolling which is anyone’s guess, and so on.

But the TLDR is definitely that if you are a veteran poster, a high-profile poster, a person with a marginal or controversial opinion, then you will get scrutinized by Blizzard’s moderators more often than everyone else. And those who are more likely to get scrutinized by the moderators are also more likely to be banned.
You simply have less lenience than a more anonymous, low-profile poster. Even if your ability to abide by the Code of Conduct is the same. The moderation scrutiny is skewed.

It’s crap.

If you open a ticket, a GM will quote the post that got you banned.

For example my first and only ban was a light hearted anti-alliance joke.

That said, I do hope you don’t get banned! sometimes it’s just a hater spamming you with alts and friends.

If you get suspended, then you recieve an email that quotes the offending post and provides a reason for the suspension, i.e. how it violates the Code of Conduct.

If a post is buried by the community, then you get a notification flag that says it’s been hidden and is pending for a moderator review. And then once a moderator has reviewed the post, then you’ll get another notification saying that the post has been restored, or that you’ve lost your posting priviledge and are suspended.

A ticket isn’t needed unless you want to appeal a moderator decision.

Dont you mean “Deus lo vult” if we want to be historically accurate?

But it doesn’t say what post got flagged which is the issue.

I got one flagged the other day and looked through my recent ones and couldn’t find it. How can I change my behaviour if I don’t know which one made people report it?

Hmm, ‘deus lo vult’? Not seems much correct: it’s more related to italian ‘dio lo vuole‘
