+3 itemlevel for 400 valor points... what a joke

So a few weeks in, what is people opinion on Valor, has anyone used it to good effect? Have you managed to get that BiS item to drop from the frustratingly stingy loot tables?

It still think there should be a 184 vendor for every piece of dungeon gear - let people buy that if they wish and upgrade it - it is long winded but allows you to buy through RNG (and with the cap in place you will not be able to gear up in fully 220’s with this method) . Also as I have said before it should not be gated at all behind achievements, allow everyone to upgrade (WQ Sally will take years to get even one piece from 184 (purchased from vendor) to 220)

Thoughts?

my thought its completly pointless and usless system.

thx god i didnt farm it - example of my mage - last week got 203 itlv weapon from dungeon - perfect for upgrades in theory - should instantly motivate me to farm like crazy eh ? this GV gave my mage 220 weapon - thx god i didnt farm even a single VP :stuck_out_tongue:

its completly pointless system locked behind elitest hardcore content.

example of my DH - in order to upgrade even a single piece i would have to get all 15 in time. thanks rather collect 223/226 from GV then spend hundreds of hours to get KSM to ugrade a single or 2 pieces from 213 to 220 - farm like crazy for +4 or +7 itlv on maximum of 6 items ? i would have to be clinicaly insane to do that considering that in 6 weeks i will likely replace all of them to 223+ from GV anyway

Yeah, i filled 3 slots with valor gear. Head (previous 216 old vault item), hands (216 old vault item) and a ring (210 previous, never had a ring from the vault). still looking for a 2nd ring and a wrist piece.

I agree with the OP
Ive rerolled to resto druid like 15 days ago , and ive been enjoying it and gearing up with valor and doing my lowbie stuff M+5/7 (i was able to time 2x10s SD/PLG last week , was my best!) im not complaining or claiming to be elite player etc, i do my own stuff dont pay for boosts or carrys like i see 90% peopl this days, but the thing i feel the most is the achivmt cap on it

It’s bad luck protection system not main system,

Face it, Blizzard will do everything to keep you p(l)aying. No rushing is allowed.

I don’t get it really. Is blocking rushers is such high priority so others are punished too? I don’t like feelings “do it now or you’ll fall behind” and “you’re allowed only to do X only Y times right now”. Thing I hate the most about Torghast is being forced into it every week to have soul ash “just in case”.

MoP “upgrade” system was just a gear tax. You did not get stronger, items dropped were simply broken and you had to put valor to repair them.

If you mean geared by having entry raid level gear than yes. I dont get where people get this idea that older valor/badge system somehow allowed to non raiders get high end gear when it was always basic entry level gear or catch up gear what would get you 2 tiers behind players what have been doing latest raid.

Waste of time is the correct call, which is why I haven’t bothered myself.

You fail to see the point in valor… you upgrade items over the full season…

If you dont have ksm you cant even upgrade much so youll have enough to upgrade everything you have…

If you have ksm you only need 3 upgrades from 210 to 220 so its balanced for both bad and good players…

People like you crying just expect instant…

My biggest gripe is that they discounted the things I had already obtained. This meant I would have to re-farm the items that were so hard to get in the first place. You can see with dungeons like DoS people ran them endlessly, trying to get their bis items so they can upgrade them. Unlike some of my friends, I’m not willing to spend days doing one dungeon over and over praying for that drop or that I can buy the drop off another player. That is my choice ofc. Just like I would not be forced into PvP again.

The additional loot drop to Mythic Plus dungeons has helped. I’m finding it easier on an alt to get gear than it was on my main. My main has mainly been geared via the vault. This week, my item level did not increase because it’s harder to get items for the slots I’m missing 226 in. When you need everything, it’s easier to find an upgrade ofc. This week I made a transmog choice

The +3 increments are obviously meant as a carrot on a stick for players who are not comfortable doing keys that are higher where the loot drops would reward higher item levels. It serves as a carrot on a stick to keep them busy for longer.

As someone pointed out, upgrading their weapon would take 30 runs. That seems awfully daunting, especially if all your gear requires that much upgrading but it is at least a method in which to do it.

Only fools spam dungeons this late on to upgrade them…

Next patch all ilevels increase and they will be made redundant…

For alts the system is decent it allows 220 upgrades but noway would i go out my way to farm something…

Never understood why Blizzard thought it was a good idea to make 184->187 cost the same as 216->220. Valor is a limited currency, so who came up with the brilliant idea to make it the same price?!

I disagree, anyone who gets an upgrade-able item that they need will be happy to do some dungeons for the valor.

I do think that’s true - however, valor being locked behind M+ achievements means that the people most likely to be interested/reliant on incremental upgrades are those least able to use it

Yeah but they wont go out their way… why would they? Next patch i bet world quest items drop close to 226…

Its a shame since bfa next raid tier makes previous raid totally irrelevant…

The biggest problem with this system is that we are limited to iLvl 220 while the GV is giving 226. Imagine you work on upgrade to 220 and then GV drops the same item 226. Life well spent.

Yes i am afraid valor is a filler for missing itemslots for already geared chars. I don’t see this currency being relevant without KSM achievement and early season.

What do you expect? Upgrading to full BiS by running a couple +2 dungeons?

You have two options:

  1. Run 15s to get the highest ilvl items possible from M+. Then it takes 3 upgrades to get them to 220, for which you should get enough Valor to upgrade while you’re getting the specific pieces you’re after.
  2. Run hundreds of low keys and complain on the forum that it takes too long to upgrade everything to the highest item level.

It’s almost as if this system was intended for people who prefer to play a lot of M+ in the first place to give them a way to upgrade their gear higher without having to raid.

More casual M plusers can do low keys and then slowly upgrade them. This was the carrot on the stick effect I referred to earlier.

Personally I have not been able to get shoulders to drop for love nor money in raid so it gave me the opportunity to get some in M plus and then upgrade them. Fortunately there are three plate wearers in my regular group so I got lucky getting someone else’s drop.

Sadly I will have to re-acquire my trinket if I wish to upgrade that.
