So an an update (This is Arnoe posting from a different character). I had to reset my UI because my mission table was showing up with no missions available (I have entirely completed the war campaign). Now this happens whenever I try to start the game. I made a post on reddit and the tech support guys on there were entirely unhelpful. I tried completely uninstalling WoW and battlenet, deleted the remmants of the folder and reinstalled and it STILL happens everytime.
I have no idea what’s happening on Blizz’s end but they can’t ignore this forever.

I just wanted to report that I seem to be experiencing this issue too for about 2 weeks now.
Win 10 Home
Intel Core i7-8550U
16 GB RAM
AMD Radeon 530
Note 1:
while leveling a twink I experienced that the problem seems not to be occurring while playing in the Outlands
Note 2:
In the next days I have to see whether this helps for raid content, too, but after several experiments it looks like I’m able to play normally in BFA content by
- activating vertical synch
- switching down to Direct X 11 Legacy
- restricting foreground FPS to 40
Why foreground? If this affects your WoW FPS while playing then some overlay is stealing focus and could be the source of the problem. If you have AMD drivers disable their overlay.
Testing FPS restriction was just a “shot in the dark” when I had no ideas any further but seems to be working for me.
I had no noticable problems with FPS while playing.
Thanks for your suggestion anyways, but I just ensured that the AMD overlays are disabled. When I remove the FPS restriction the freeze/blackscreen/resume thing starts occuring again.
I too have such lockups. I’ve tried everything on this page and nothing helps. NA has a pinned post acknowledging this, we should have one too, this is very much present.
Windows 10 Home v2004
Nvidia RTX 2080
Intel Core i7-8700K
32GB DDR4 RAM
Everything is at stock speeds.
In 8.3, WoW randomly crashes in the world and says no memory available…
‘‘Not enough memory. Please refer to https://battle.net/support/article/6926 to find out how to reduce your memory usage.’’
I’m not experiencing this in raids or bgs. I’ve noticed 5x that entering a siege vehicle in wintergrasp logs me out though to login screen… (not an issue with other vehicles).
I have 8700k, 16gb RAM and a RTX 2060 with latest drivers and 64bit Win10.
Have a feeling it’s a XMP profile/RAM bios >COMPATIBILITY< issue of the game.
I cleared cache but still getting the issue.
Other games I have run fine.
Hi I’m also now having these issues constantly to the point I get them every 5-30 secs unplayable really!
It only started happening from 4/6/20 after 17.44 and nothing has changed on my end no updates or software installed or any changes. Not a single problem before now.
Only thing I noticed is that the Blizzard Client downloaded a small update recently (don’t know details) not sure if this would or could have cause issue ,but I’m at a loss for how to resolve.
Hello, have same problem started playing 3 days ago and first 2 days were without problem. At third day I get constant crashes on game startup (when I start game from launcher.) I see a cursor from wow but screen starts blinking back to desktop and in game every few second (while having blackscreen) after that I get bluescreen of death. with error nvlddmkm.sys.
Using Nvidia 1060 6gb with windows 7 x64 and the only problem I have is when I launch WoW. Tried fix it with expanding nvlddmkm.sys from windows folder and nvlddmkm.sy_ from graphic driver folder. Didn’t work. Using DX 11 atm, still getting crashes… Deleting all drivers software, reinstalling for newest version… nothing
In the end what worked for me was starting game with command for WoW “-dx11”. Welp okay started once, then next day once I tried to start it, crash again… In the end I have to start it 2 times when I want to get in game…
- Start game from launcher, start pressing ALT+F4 while screen is blinking.
- Go to Task manager > process > end blizzard launcher.
- Start blizz launcher again, start game - game starts everytime for me after this.
Really Blizz, please do something with it. Thanks.
Sounds like a problem on your end if you ask me.
Have you tried older drivers? Like from the beginning of the year or so.
Also, you really should upgrade to Windows 10, it is still free.
Thank you, but I don’t like win 10 tbh. I’ll stay with win 7 for now. Tried 3 different older versions of drivers for Nvidia, still same problem… No other game have similar problems, playing games like EvE, Witcher, Overwatch etc… never ever crashed, only WoW started crashing after 2 days of playing. Tried uninstall and install WoW again too, repair it etc… nothing worked so far. Only that method I wrote works for me when i start game.

I replaced my dead AMD graphics card with a new NVIDIA card and now I’m having these freezes from time to time. Game freezes for about 3 seconds and then it’s back again… Very annoying.
Similiar symptoms here: ASUS ROG Strix GL703GE, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 16GB RAM, Win 10 Home 64x, SSD m2, Graphics settings on level 7 (recommended).
Almost every time when I tele or log in to Boralus Harbor, or from time to time at situation where a lot of effects happens on the screen (Warfront, BG, Raid) the screen freezes from 10 to even 20 seconds, and then unfreezes. Ofc besides that the game works smooth and nice, mostly at 60 fps.
Problem started from 8.3. I remember similair problem in Legion, when the biggest patch came in (7.3?), but it disappeared in time - until 8.3.
In PvP situation is very annoying - I fear now to go to the rated Arenas because of that.
I’ve been experiencing the exact same issues as described in this thread, since the update that arrived on the 24th july. It will randomly freeze for 5-10 seconds, sometimes the screen goes black, sometimes the game crashes. If it doesnt crash after a freeze, all assets are reloaded. Tried disabling/removing addons, tried reinstalling gpu drivers etc.
On some rare occasions (this has happened 4 times in total, but i’ve barely played at all since the 23rd) when the screen goes black, it doesnt return so the pc has to be hard reset by killing the power. This issue does not happen in any other game, only in wow.
GTX 970 with latest drivers, windows 8.1
Forgot to mention that on some rare occasions i’ve also gotten the error message
“World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration”
when the game crashes entirely.
B. will not admit that it’s 100 % their fault, but instead will give you useless advices to give you the impression that they care, when they don’t accuse your hardware of being the cause behind their incompetence.

You do know people’s systems vary by quite a bit? You’re talking about millions of different configurations. It’s easy to shove the blame on Blizzard but you’re not considering the extreme variations in systems people use.
Just a few things that I can think of:
-
Different OS’es: MAC/Linux/Windows 7/8/10
-
Different Latest OS patch installed: W10: 1609/1709/1809/1904/2004
-
Which security software is employed on the machine?: Some people have 2-3 Antivirus/Firewall software installed with all of them running at the same time.
-
Different Graphics cards: Which driver is being used? Note: Newer drivers is not always better and can cause issues. Check Nvidia Support forums or Reddit to see multiple people complain about similar issues in other games after installing the latest drivers.
-
Peripherals and other hardware: Drivers or software of peripherals or other hardware can cause issues.
-
Hardware not optimized: People buying new RAM but is not supported by mainboard, yet still ‘works’. People buying the latest graphics cards but PSU doesn’t deliver enough juice.
-
Overheating: Usually the cause of black screens and crashes of drivers.
-
Software: There is countless of pieces of software people can have installed and running which can nuke your performance in-game.
-
What ‘tweaks’ did the user perform on their computer?: Did they turn off services, did they do any of those ‘gaming’ registry tweaks or did they install so called Game boosting software.
-
What settings has the user set/changed in World of Warcraft client?: Certain settings can issues, some settings can cause issues when set too high.
-
What performance plan is selected in Windows? High performance or set to something like Batterysaving.
-
What is the Refreshrate of the monitor set at?: Perhaps some Windows or Graphics driver installation reset this to default.
-
Are you using HDR, GSync or Freesync?: All of them CAN in some circumstances cause issues within games.
-
Do you use hibernate/sleep/quick boot on your computer?: These can cause some hardware or software to not perform well in some circumstances.
-
Discord Overlay? Can cause FPS-drops.
-
ICUE/Razer Synapse/Logitech Ghub software? Can be buggy, cause crashes both in-game and computer.
All of these things (and more) can influence how well your games or your computer in general performs. Nvidia’s latest graphic drivers are known to be buggy and to cause issues. Yet who do people blame? Right, Blizzard.
I’ve worked a customer support position in the past long enough to know that people have no idea what the hell they’re doing with their computer/network. I also know they’re quick to shove the blame to others and are incapable of accepting that the fault lies on their end.
Anecdote:
User can’t reach a company portal website
User calls Company
User gets me on the phone
User explains their issue
I check the website on PC & my personal phone. Site is working fine.
I ask User to try to switch connection to Hotspot on phone.
User starts their hissy fit saying their connection is working perfectly fine because he/she can reach randomwebsite and that I should fix their problem NOW!
I urge the user to try it on a different connection which takes me 5 minutes to get them off their notion that I should fix it and they won’t try anything.
User tries it via Hotspot on their phone. Site works.
I ask User to reset the router/modem
After the reset I ask to try again. Site works fine.
… and I see the same thing happen on the forums. People immediately blaming Blizzard when they run into issues and nagging on Customer Support to fix it and not being open to trying anything they ask you to try.
One of the most important things Customer Support has to do is COLLECT DATA, so they can extrapolate what may be the root cause of the issues people are experiencing. If you’re acting like a stuck-up manchild and don’t bother giving the information that could help fix the issue at some point in time, you’re shooting yourself in the foot.
Anything new yet? I’m remaining unsubscribed until this is resolved…

Doesn’t seem to be, the problem is still persisting for me
It’s now been a month since I was last able to play, and far longer than that for some. ITT that has 38k views (the most views on this subforum) yet no more replies? Seemingly abandoned, as if it was resolved? The latest post from 10 days ago says the issue is persisting.
Considering that this is affecting so many, one would think it is to be prioritized?
I dont want to purchase a sub just to find out that the issues (that first appeared for me on 23rd of july) are still there, making wow absolutely unplayable.
Anyone?
The fact that we had no response so far just clearly says they know something is fu**ed up on their side.
If it wasn’t we’d have a clearification about this a long long time ago, or at least some info about the nvidia/dx11-12 not beeing compatibile with some drivers for every player gaming setup.
It’s really sad that sometimes they act like ostriches instead of facing thei community.
At least SL beta is kinda working and the content is promising… but if that’s how we’ll have to play the next expac, then NO sign me off
