Yeah.
I can definitely see it getting out of hand quite rapidly, even if the spam wasn’t intended. I am not sure how to actually prevent it in future riots, if such takes place. Sadly.

As for the ‘spam’, i heard there’s an addon called “Listener” which helps in situations which many people and therefore, emotes and messages exist, and will notify you upon being targeted or something like that.

Haven’t used it myself, but thought may be good to mention it for those who may have issue with the spam thing.

In fairness, way more people showed up for the riot than was anticipated. But I do agree that the yelling got a bit too much. It’s hard to control, though, even with half the people it would still be.

But it was just difficult to actually RP with the mob due to the spam overwhelming the chat.

The spam was probably a bit too much. It didn’t allow to actually properly reply / RP and interact with the crowd, as the chat was far too filled. I am not sure if the numbers were too high / the amount of people spamming yells were too much. If we had more time to reply and emote in regards to the mob, then that would’ve been great.

I do have that addon. It’s quite handy indeed. My only worry is that unless the specific person / group of the mob you are trying to interact with also have it; it would be difficult to RP with the spam as well.

But aye. Definitely a good option to help in spam.

This was never going to be a 100% fully controlled event as not everybody is a part of the PCU, the community hosting the event

All I’ve seen this far is “this is really chaotic!” and “there’s people that are trying to ruin the event!”

A) Yes, it’s chaotic, which a riot inherently is (disagree if you want, but you’re factually wrong)
B) We’re in a major hub - there were always people that were going to hop in and try to grief / mess around / generally ruin the event. This was excruciatingly obvious and nobody with some sense thought otherwise

Let me explain the chaos then, I’ve been trying to avoid writing large paragraphs on the forums because I simply couldn’t be arsed to give it that level of effort, but let’s go for a whirl;

First of all, the riot has no actual “goal”. Sure, it’s about the ceasefire, and to some degree the occupation of Void Elves in Stormwind. And to an even smaller degree, the “corruption” of the Church of the Holy Light & the Stormwind City Guard.

However, there is no real opponent in this case. The other side, the Guard RPers, are all throwaway characters since the current Guard guild had no intention of participating in this event. Purely because they agree with me; it’s too chaotic.

Now why is that an issue I hear you ask? It means we have a riot wandering aimlessly through Stormwind, yelling their hearts out about a certain concept that won’t change this time tomorrow, because there’s nobody to find a lasting resolution with in roleplay. Because everyone’s a throwaway.

This riot has no means of achieving what it wants, because it’s an event that will only last for maybe a couple of days at best, with only its own side to play with, there’s no “bad guy” in this scenario that is here to stay.

Now, I could be wrong about the latter half, maybe some of the current Guard rpers will stick around, maybe even join the Home Guard. But I’ve been RPing a Guard in the popular guard guilds for the past 5 years, and I’ve both seen spontanious riots that are more organised than tonight, and highly doubt that this RP will stick long-term to yield any sort of change in how things are presented in Stormwind.

TL;DR it’s chaotic, even by a riot’s standards, get over yourself

Characters being throwaways is irrelevant; the event is to create roleplay and that’s what is being done

If the aim of roleplay was to change the actual story of the game then nobody would be roleplaying

You’re still literally just complaining about roleplay; not everything has to be lasting and exceptionally meaningful. It’s a riot that will no doubt disperse soon, and one can argue it will have lasting effects as people will talk about it for a while to come given the scale of the event
