A brief history of PVP in WoW

Nov, 2004 - WoW release
April, 2005 - “Omg honor ruined PVP, Blizzard are so dumb”
June, 2005 - “Omg battlegrounds ruined honor, Blizzard are so dumb”
September, 2005 - “Omg Arathi Basin ruined the other battlegrounds, Blizzard are so dumb”.
December, 2006 - “Omg arenas ruined battlegrounds, Blizzard are so dumb”.
2006-2019: Gief servers without battlegrounds and arenas, so we can have real PVP
August, 2019 - “Omg why would they release Classic without honor and battlegrounds, Blizzard are so dumb”
November, 2019 - “Omg why would they introduce the honor system. I didn’t know that PVP happened on PVP realms. Blizzard are so dumb”
December, 2019 - “Omg the battlegrounds suck, why would they release them. Blizzard are so dumb”

TLDR: PVP’ers are a bunch of whiny kids, and have been for 15 years.

Its like you’re just begging for all the trolls to come after you

They could make WoW BGs a console game - bet it would do well

The post is a little unfair I think

Some players love to PvP against other players on equal terms - meaning level and numbers

You don’t always get that in BGs and you also have some social issues - kicking in AV - different objectives etc.

I think ‘purist’ PvP players have a view of the activity that gets skewed

Imagine BGs with no tangible reward other than honour - a good proportion of PvPers would be in there - but farmers for rep / gear would not

Taking a balanced view I can see why they are upset BUT I don’t understand why they are complaining so hard about an environment they knew would happen

Be disappointed rather than apoplectic

I love pvp’ing in WoW, every expansion have brought its own pros and cons, but in Classic I loved world pvp.
What most people “whine” about now, is not the pvp’ing as such, its how its executed. At the moment, the best way to pvp and rank up is to play pve.
AV is a shadow of what I personally think was the glory days of this battleground (when a match could take up to 14 days), but this zerg rush is in my opinion not fun at all and just ruins the experiance that to be a good pvp’er you had to play premades in WSG or actually be good at the game. Now, you can just AFK in AV and get high ranks with 0 effort.

So all i gathered from your post Isylia, is that you are most likely a PvE person who doesn’t have a clue about what is going on or why people are unsatisfied, or simply don’t care. Nonetheless we could be without your input.

I agree with you about AV

I played this instance a lot just before TBC - and it was a 50/50 mix between end to end rush and a more strategic battle where you did - in fact - PvP

It was fun

I predicted what would happen in Classic last week - it’s a shame

There is a good chance - though - that it will settle down and that at least some of the time you’ll get a good PvP Skirmish

I have decided not to bother for a few months - I don’t log every day and I don’t want to waste the time I have with the Zerg

When is Arathi Basin due - that’s should be somewhat different?

Depends on your idea of different though.

They’re bound to emphasize premades more and more over time, due to the natural discouragement of queuing alone since xrealm matchmaking is socially toxic in and of itself.

This thread shows a good example of why that is.

(Not to mention the prevalence of toxic behavior or just silence overall in retail BGs over the years.)
