As for locations, obviously the current climate makes things tricky. The majority of Northern Kalimdor is entirely military - it’s not overrun by Horde, since the Blood War has had them getting gradually pushed back into a stalemate (we know that we’re at the point where the Alliance can actively siege Horde settlements in Ashenvale, and there’s the ongoing fight over Darkshore). You could certainly base a more civilian side in Moonglade or Hyjal, but would have to consider being constantly surrounded by “Horde” and bound by certain rules there, which may not fit with your theme. Val’Sharah is in a similar boat, though with the added bonus of being super pretty (plus you can duck into Suramar to shank a few of our wayward cousins).
Feralas is a good shout - though I haven’t been down there in many years I hear it’s the on-off popular hub, and it is a wonderful zone with a nice variety of areas, making it an excellent staging ground for military-focused RP and also somewhere to relax in between (though more out in the forest, there).
I quite like the idea of a more permanent outpost in or near Stormwind that would serve as a rallying point for refugees - whether it be off around the farm, or even in Elwynn or, dare I say it, Duskwood. I know there’s some ongoing stuff there already but the idea of a group trying to turn it into a home away from home has some appeal to it.
I actually really like the idea of the stormwind sub section, while not initially part of our focus it’d be really useful as a way to branch over to the two continents and open up new avenues of rp! Feralas is looking more appealing alongside Ashenvale, perhaps. Even so, thanks for the suggestions! All this feedback is really useful, folks, thanks for the contributions! Reckon a lot of this would be good to implement.
Where Deathwing’s jaw is might be an ideal spot and I’m not joking.
The Night Elves were hit hard by the Cataclysm and it was their Druids that, along with their Tauren allies, spearheaded the assault on Ragnoros, servant to Deathwing, but also it was the Highborne who felt the earthquakes and came to warn the Night Elves of the incoming threat.
Good evening Andoril, I am willing to join The Crescent Vigil as I try my best to help other Kaldorei and have a great time with fellow members.
OOC: I may not be on all the time as i have college and appointments.
Joined up with the Moonlight Embrace OOC to start out. I have already observed and watched their RP and I was immediately drawn too it. These people are as friendly as friendly can get. I really do whole heartily recommend these groups.
peers up from her sleep* Ehmm… umbrella guild looks up to the sky for a moment and smirks.
There are ups and downs with all guilds and concepts really. What matters the most is if you are supportive to your members and open for interactions to others. It takes about a year to get a guild sort of stead and then to maintain its ups and downs, handle ooc conflicts and make sure you have enough active members with a will to push things forward. If you guys want to make a hub somewhere and you offer others to come and rp with you… cheers.
If you want to have a discord for likeminded… cheers.
Most guilds if they are not very one centered have sub branches. If a guild chose to call it mini guilds within a big or just a branch. its all the same in the end and we should support and embrace any who wish to do something.
Greater impact on a community can happen with a big enough guild but we are all free players who decide where we want to be.
Hello! Showing myself back in here, because I had a general question regarding the Covenant. I’ve found that, in recent times, the community’s been a little… hard to keep track of. As someone who’s not involved with the community/Discord, it’s a bit of a struggle to find out where you guys are and what you’re up to. Are there any plans to utilize the forum thread more?
The reasoning behind this comes from the fact that the community seems heavily focused on a “private” Discord server, which I think is detrimental to the general health of a race’s scene; people who are not in the Discord for whatever reason are excluded, whereas the forums are public and open to everyone. Nowadays, literally anyone (even those without subscription) can read and post to the forums, which allows for much more open communication – unlike a discord server.
I think, for the sake of banter and conversation and whatnot, a Discord server is fine, but I think anything organizational should also be placed on the forums so as many people as possible can join in and contribute. Right now, the Covenant feels exclusive to someone not in the community/discord. And that is something I think is harmful to the entirety of the racial RP scene, purely because of the size of CoT.
Thanks again for the questions and critiques, Myth!
To answer this one, yes, we intend to use the forums to explain more about events we offer to the external kaldorei scene. However since a lot of our current content, from what I have seen, is largely internal. Guild events for the Vigil as an example which are for our guild and it’s personal motivations. I’ve always been a fan of handling things ic. So if we were to host an event that extends to the forums, I’d likely be posting ic letters about it to prospective groups ic before such a post came up.
Yes we will be using it, as applicable, will that extend to the internal goings on of the Covenant? Not so much. Again, it is not our intent to exclude anyone from our rp, perhaps a stronger forum presence might aid that. At any rate when it becomes relevant with campaigns we offer the forums are going to be a port of call in the same way jurina’tore was posted here.
That being said, if you happened to stumble across one of our events ic, chances are we’ll open the door and have you hop in for spontaneous eventing. I should just look to being more proactive with updating the forum post to maintain a state that is current. Thanks again.
Completely fair! Internal guild events definitely don’t need to be advertised on the forums - it’s community-wide events that should be advertised more.
That’s kind of what I meant, though! Unless you mean guild business by internal going-ons, I think it’d be good if you advertised Covenant-wide activities on the forums too.
I absolutely understand you’re not trying to exclude anyone from the Covenant, but my entire point was that you should expand your advertising circle to the forums. To take myself as an example, I’m not involved in the Discord (for my own reasons – I’ve grown kind of weary of community Discords), but I may still want to attend events. However, I cannot; I am locked out, because I’m not in the Discord. A stronger forum presence would certainly work against that, hence why that was my point.
That would be a good way to start! It would give both individuals and guilds a heads-up as to where you guys are so they can swing by for roleplay.
Overall, don’t get me wrong, I am all for community projects – but they should always opt to be as open and transparent as possible, and a good way to do that is by making use of all advertising possibilities.
Good point. When it comes to community side events, I’ll be sure to drop a note here so people know what’s what if it’s applicable to them. It’ll be useful, at any rate, in getting people integrating with each other.
What I gather from your critiques is that you have a noble desire to improve the overall Night Elf roleplaying scene and I share that desire as well. In an ideal world there’s roleplay to be had in all the major Kaldorei hubs at any time of day, and by working together I’m sure we can all make that happen.
Forums are tricky, clunky and not exactly user friendly. You have to dig to find what you want, unless what you want happens to be the topic of the day, so having discord servers dedicated to gathering people and providing them information directly, rather than relying on people to actively check the forums is a lot more convenient, and I dare say that you are less likely to be excluded from anything since the information is instant. There’s a lot of benefits to a discord server, and if you don’t want to be a part of it, that’s completely fine.
A great perk of Covenant events is that they happen organically IC, so simply being present in the hubs gives you a chance to partake if being part of the Discord isn’t your fancy. Andoril and many others provide events that start off at hubs and then proceed to wherever the story takes us, rather than simply showing up at a specific location at a specific time, that sort of thing is very hard to keep track of. So a solution to you wanting to join events is to simply be online and roleplay, rather than sit on the forums waiting for invitations.
We do not exclude people that aren’t part of the discord. However, you might find a harder time to have full overview of everything that’s going on by not being part of the community or any of the guilds, that’s just the way it goes. There’s always the chance of collaborating with more guilds outside of the Covenant, so feel free to come over with your friends and your guilds. More roleplay for everyone, as I think most people would rather such things happen IC rather than being preplanned on a public forum
I can assure you that every community project will be announced properly on the forums. But even if there aren’t big events planned, there’s still a huge amount of people roleplaying every day, and you’re free to join us.
I think the issue isn’t so much with the discord server – it’s more that you don’t also update others on e.g where you are, and what you’re up to on the forums as well, so if people do want to find RP – they can. That’s especially important considering your community’s size, as I mentioned before.
We don’t really have any obligation to update everyone where we currently are. If you want to find RP, simply go to the hubs, that’s where we are 90% of the time.
To add onto that, we don’t always move as a zerg. Most guilds have their own thing going on in different places, we’re not exclusively in one place en masse.
That kind of attitude is precisely why NElf rp has the issues it does – there is no formal hub, and there is no set base to find casual RP. Things aren’t so simple, and I know at least with my guild that there have been issues with trying to interact with some of your members.
So when you say this, for example:
It’s simply not true, considering the fact that people a) don’t always know where your alleged community is, and b) whenever you are thinking about doing any event others would be welcome in. It’s not advertised, and it’s ultimately not open.
Think that might be part of the problem people have. since i joined the server, Feralas/Feathermoon was the number 1 hub with people going back and forth from Astranaar and such. when you pair the loss of players from BfA that the nelf community had, and making another hub to split the thin numbers even more then its going to impact the nelf community negatively.
Just my thoughts, happy to say im finding plenty of RP in Feathermoon with My Noodles (which i will be back doing again soon!) and the Handmaidens.
Most guilds that are part of the Covenant hang out in Astraanar. That information can be gained by simply whispering anyone in game.
If you have issues with individuals, either talk to them or voice your concern to the officers of that person’s guild.
For this server alone there’s a Facebook group, forum, Discord servers, Skype groups, in game communities and more that houses a lot of people and unless we announce our intentions and plans on every single one of those medias, people will be lacking information one way or another. That can be salvaged by having an IC presence.
We’ve settled on Discord as our main communcation, which means the other channels will be lacking in comparison, but not 100% excluded.
I recommend the following format in the opening post, ideally very far up after the title as a quote. As an example:
Current location: Astranaar Peak times: 4 PM to 6 PM / 8 PM to 11 PM Current IC premise: The Covenant remains around Ashenvale to defend against Deathstalkers and pursue Horde officer XYZ Upcoming Public event and contact: Raid on Silverwind Refuge (Andoril)
Something along those lines will suffice and address any points Mythundis might have had above, I believe. It’s easy to maintain and update and instantly informs anyone clicking the thread.
Except they don’t. Guilds shift from location to location because it gets stale to DM in one area alone. That’s why it’s important to make others aware of what you’re up to and where you’re going, because there is no formal RP hub in the NElf community, and the areas you can find casual RP – if anywhere – are constantly shifting.
If you do not share that with people outside of your covenant, then people cannot find RP – especially because your community encompasses the majority of the NElf community at current. By not sharing that in the forums, you essentially force people to join the community and the discord IC just to get some RP, which isn’t fair on anybody.
If you’re not willing to share that information to others, then that’s fine – but I wouldn’t say you’re ‘for the community’, as you claim to be.
