Honestly, I’m not shocked. As a woman myself and with many female friends in STEM based jobs, which are mainly male dominated, I’ve seen/heard so many similar stories, especially from bigger companies, that these allegations do not surprise me.
There are so many kind, thoughtful and passionate men out there who advocate for women. I’d like to think the majority of them can see the issue with the behavior that has been allowed at blizzard and other large game dev companies and want there to be a positive change going forward. I also think the majority can see the difference between banter and sexual harassment. It’s also important to note that men can be sexually harassed as well (have seen this happen) and are less likely to report it than women are out of the fear of being somewhat “unmanly” or “weak”.
On that note, people who ask “why didn’t they come forward before”, well when it’s ingrained in the culture, up to the top management, it’s very difficult to report this type of behaviour without opening yourself up for more of the same. For a lot of these ladies, working at blizzard was a dream job, reporting it meant them getting punished rather than the perpetrators. Read the lawsuit, and you see WHY they didn’t come forward.
Then I read some of the responses in this thread, and realised that frat-boy culture is not synonymous with just blizzard devs.
Unfortunately, this news is making my motivation to play wow even smaller.

Neanderthal reactions would be in defense of Blizzard. Literally, the second post is one, with a ‘here we go again’ sentiment of someone who is immediately defensive when their favorite movie star/pop star, in this case, game developer, whenever allegations like this come out.

Then if you’re going to use the “I’m gay” as a defence to my comment, I shall use it to dismiss your arguments as to what women should and shouldn’t find appropriate coming from men as you have no direct experience of such, yes?
Either your being gay makes you immune to the criticism I’m levelling and thus also immune to giving commentary on this topic for the same reason, or it doesn’t. Take your pick.
Also I’ll add, my comment said limited experience with women, I never implied sexual involvement. My comment still stands for your case. I’m fact you compound it, but not only do you have that work experience, but you’ve also confirmed you’re not even interested in women and yet here you are lecturing on what they apparently want. Amazing.

Got to love the absolute virtue signalling by this miserable company when they’re doing this behind the scenes. They’re like those loud advocates of some movement when they’re guilty themselves to stay hidden with the mases while projecting onto others…
Rule of Thumb; do NOT buy into any of the “progressive” crap these corporates Market out with. They’re just appealing the masses with zero sincerity.

I really don’t get this take, this is an issue across the whole gaming industry, unless you’ve also boycotted Ubisoft, Riot, Projekt CD and so forth.
People who keep asking “where is the evidence” - Do you just like, have no understanding of the how trials or the legal system works? All the evidence will come out in the trial…really not that hard to understand.

Unfortunately, majority of big game studios are like this, the only studios that are alright are smaller indie games.
Game time expires in 5 minutes - and for now I don’t think I’ll be renewing. Not sure when I’ll be back, honestly with this stuff being out there I’m not even sure I want to wait for the court case and all that to make a decision; even if the people currently working on WoW are fine.
