Activision Blizzard sued by California Department of Fair Employment

Horible news. Feel very sorry for the victem who ended her life.
Hope the evil will face full weight of justice not just fines

What about when the constant advances don’t stop, you take it to HR, HR dismisses it and then you are moved to another area of the company/dismissed for raising a complaint?
Please read the claims.

Unfortunately this is a civil case being raised by the State of California’s Department of fair employment. The suing is primarily to reclaim lost wages, back payments, reparations for missed employment opportunitis, unfair dismissals etc.
I would very much like to see separate criminal cases brought forward as well, but at the moment it is just fines that are on the table.

Disgusting if true, the more you read into this the worse it gets. Honestly just sickening to read.

What the hell is happening to Blizzard, just nuke the whole company at this point and start fresh.

Same here. Even if its gonna bring small measure of peace to family its gonna be big to show the system can still work somewhere.

Pretty depressive reading.

Riot had a case of sexual harassment that turned into a giant mess in the media before the truth was unearthed in court, so I’m hesitant to draw conclusions already.
Let it go through the court system, then depending on the result, it may or may not be time for torches and pitchforks.

That being said, there are some details in the lawsuit that - regardless of the cause - are rather disturbing and clearly something that reflects poorly on Blizzard.

I expect better from Blizzard as a player, and I think it’s reasonable to demand better as customers as well.

Still, I’m careful not to draw early conclusions, but…

and yours is the first I’ve recognised so far.
Shame it is on such a topic as this. I can usually be found on twitter or discord instead these days.

I am not sorry this is not going fast enough look at the kind of bad x-pack and story we have got to deal and it’s 2021 , there is the need for more women and diversity in video games it is getting tiedous at best.

I doubt this will even go to court, usually it ends up with the company paying some huge fine, issuing an apology, and not actually admitting any wrong doing. Most companies usually settle and force their employees to undergo harassment training and they start a program to ensure that women and minorities have chances to be promoted etc…

well yes, this is a civil case where they are being sued/fined.
Blizzards statement has already denied wronging whilst similutaneously talking about changes to their code of conduct, the implementation of harrassment training etc.
Wowhead posted an article on this topic, you can read Blizzard’s statement there: https://www.wowhead.com/news/activision-blizzard-being-sued-by-california-over-discrimination-against-female-323503

What they really have to worry about is if the federal government’s EEOC goes after them as well, it depends if the plaintiffs have filed discrimination suits under federal law as well.

Nothing is going to happen to them, they have enough money to make it out of this fairly well, we all know that.

The future of their games is uncertain though. WoW was already in trouble even before this came up, I can’t imagine it’s going to get any more popular.

Overwatch is in a tough situation as well.

Can’t say i’ve set myself up on Twitter but I could throw you my btag and discord later on through ingame mail.

Could be worse topics to spot a familiar name in, even if it’s some rather serious allegations Activision Blizzard are facing. Can’t say they help their case publicly by stating that some correction training has taken place. I don’t think that usually is done pre-emptively in its entirety.

I don’t know much about how the US is structured, so forgive my ignorance, but is the EEOC not similar to the state’s Department of Fair Employment, or is it like the national version of it?

edit:

Sure thing!

In America you can sue at both the federal and state levels. If the State of California has been investigating the company and is suing them, then this means the accusers took their complaints to the states labor department that handles discrmination.

At the same time the EEOC or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is the federal level body that handles discrimination cases that violate federal workplace and anti discrimination laws. So yes federal law = national laws in America.

Hopefully when this blows over they’ll realize they need to get the hell out of California.

Meh, stuff like that happens everywhere. Don’t deny it.
