Activision Blizzard sued by California Department of Fair Employment

Did you watch Boondock Saints and mistake it for a documentary?

Spousal abuse (willful corporal injury) is illegal in Los Angeles and everywhere in California based on current CA penal code regardless of what instrument is used.

Stop believing everything you read on the internet.

They remove Swifty and Quinton Flynn as voice actor for Kael’thas for accusations proven to be false, yet their own employees treat female employess like this?

I have to disagree there.
You’re right to be angry, however though it’s been said many times, it bears repeating: Many men are decent, ordinary people who treat others well and have nothing to do with the vile things other men do.

Education is extremely important in changing mindsets, I agree. But it’s also equally important not to let this horrific news taint your view on an entire gender.

Ye, he doesn’t really care about any of that. What’s more important to him is his hatred for Blizzard getting more atraction.

I’m sure you’re one of those people who blames women for getting r*ped aswell. Disgusting pig.

I had a stalker in-game as well after they found out I was a woman. Had to cut all ties and block him everywhere, even on social media. Stuff was horrible.

What?

It’s an equal world you absolute incel. No person regardless of gender should be treated as a lesser.

Also, reading into this, these allegations go as far back as 2004, so this was before Activision.

I wonder if people can do mental gymnastics to still not recognise this as an old Blizzard problem.

For a US state to drag a corporation into the legal spotlight, there’s bound to be more to this than ‘he said, she said’ levels of trouble. This isn’t based on an angry tweet, but a two year long investigation.

Disclaimer: I’m all for a the principle of someone being innocent until proven otherwise, but I’m not holding my breath for that outcome in this case. The report is a nauseating read.

I’m basically done with this company, this is the last straw. Should have been years ago, but whatever. I will not in good conscience pay a company that harasses women and minorities. There are other better games out there anyway and they’re mostly cheaper as well (Don’t give me that €/hr excuse). This should not be swept aside. The best course of action is to not buy their products. For those that don’t care about (women) employees’ safety, then using this momentum to effect change ought to change their lazy approach to the game anyway. Since it’s the state of California doing this, we know it’s serious and not just one disgruntled former employee doing this to spite them.

The state wouldn’t go for it unless they’ve got an absolute concrete case. It’ll be interesting to see who they will go for, as noted, this dates back to as early as 2004 so we could well see a few of the ‘legendary’ Blizzard names in a much different light.

Hopefully something comes of this, a person being treated as a lesser because of gender, ethnicity and sexuality isn’t on, it should be a thing of the past.

How the hell does that even happen? You’d expect people to get fired for drinking at their workplace, idk if this is isolated to a certain division or is company wide but it sound like something is very wrong with their work ethic.

It is. We agree to treat potential criminals as innocent until they’re proven guilty because we recognize just how much damage we can do to a potentially innocent person with a premature prosecution.

It’s not risky if you’re not drunk out of your mind or have the emotional intelligence of a brick. If the opposite party isn’t willing just take a hint and stop.

Thing is though… even if it’s all false Blizzard still deserves a huge slap in the face for how they’ve been treating the community, and this is it.

But yea I think it’s true as well and it breaks my heart.

And I dread what will happen when I come home and look at my guild. I hope, desperately, that it won’t cause that much damage to our community because that’ll really mess with my social life especially under COVID.

But I fear that it will and honestly… it should. And that breaks my heart even more than it’s already broken out of empathy for the victims of this bullying and sexism.

I’m absolutely enraged and stricken with grief. After all this sanctimony and bitterness… God in Hell… :frowning:

Innocent until Proven guilty, though knowing what’s going on in California as a state, its already doomed for Blizzard if they have any amount of evidence they can use against them with any meaning. I just hope they don’t forget to give the sexist writers on twitter a slap on the wrist while they’re at it too who also produce novels and the likes of it for Blizzard.

Does certainly leave a bit of a sick feeling in my stomach. Ugh.

Not even really just a Blizzard thing, it’s really across the entire industry, a lot of the culture back in the day was dictated by clowns like

This guy, who think groping, harassment and unfair work scrutiny is classified as ‘banter’.

Roux has joined the conversation with her infinite wisdom.

Hey, Roux - can you not? You may not like women getting bullied in the workplace, and nor do I so we’ve got that in common, but you bully men in the workplace.

Why make this about what some people said on Twitter? This has nothing to do with that and I sincerely hope you’re not trying to draw a comparison between people actually being sexually harassed and actively discriminated against in person and someone saying vague nasty things against an amorphous blob group because they’re not the same at all.

Both stink but attempting to make this “about the other stuff” is pure whataboutism. Heck, if the report bears weight in reality it may even explain why several of these blizz employees tweet this stuff if this is what they see in their workplaces.
