[ADRP]: What do you think is wrong with Alliance RP?

One man’s hero is another man’s villain, we see the Mag’har control the ogres through brutality and when the Lightbound offer them freedom the Mag’har go reee. (Apparently it’s a bad things when the Ogres dosn’t wanna be they’re slaves any more.)

They’re not evil, they’re aggressive.

It’s been a while since I’ve bothered to roleplay Alliance side but from what I remember Stormwind is its own little world which is filled with second life avatars just wanting to socialise with others in their own version of VRChat. You have players who have characters that exist to get art of, people who just want to play cops and robbers like it’s Gmod DarkRP, or just want to roleplay something they’ve seen on the television recently. Some of them have become so jaded they rather sit on a roof and watch people roleplay while they use ingame as a chatroom to talk about the local gossip of the day.

This is probably less players fault and more Blizzards for writing us into a boring setting where the bone scraps of lore sometimes tossed at us from Twitter are so precious that we desperately try to over analyse the tiniest of subjects to get basic understandings on how we should roleplay in the setting that Blizzard themselves don’t even provide for.

The hierarchy for what creates a functional, believable roleplay world doesn’t exist in WoW, especially on the Alliance. Either because people here have vouched for it’s death (guards, nobles, player roles, authority etc) or Blizzard themselves have wrote “the king handles all the problems and everything is fine now.” World of Warcraft is a horrible setting in it’s modern incarnation. They killed off the RPG books and have shown no interest in world building. Its all very smoke and mirrors.

This isn’t helped for Alliance players who currently have next to no story this expansion and are, once again, forced to listen to a Horde focused one. What is there to do Alliance side that’s actually interesting with the current story that can last?

When the players rather RP having riots and play house vs house trade-swap prisoner parties with their own bases and gang hideouts over what in the lore I don’t blame. Blizzard cannot provide an immersive world or even a basic law book to follow so the players make them for themselves; because they think Gmod DarkRP is more fun.

Basically the lore is crap and World of Warcraft is not a game you can actually successfully roleplay in – especially if you’re an Alliance player.

Nah they’re evil.

Well, we are playing in a game where the horde faction is obviously the main characters and they are enemies of the alliance so… yeah the alliance is the bad guys.

Nice.

Can’t believe Anduin’s magic bones are evil bones.

Is this the Pet Peeves: Alliance-Only Edition?

Eeeuh I have mixed thoughts.

I used to be Alliance main for a very long time, and I agree that the largest issue is people who would rather find a reason to complain about others’ RP over just RP’ing with them.

My current Troll-Supremacy guild is based around conflicts with other guilds and Horde has been very open to that, particularly the folks of the PCU, despite how much crap they often receive, especially from Alliance roleplayers.

That said, some of my best RP memories are from Alliance too - I hope that one day when I do some RP on Alliance again, it will be open to proper IC conflict without OOC drama quickly following.

The Alliance has way too many land grabbing people/guilds. I get it’s nice to have buildings assigned to use for your guild, but don’t do it to the detriment of other players.
It becomes more jarring when a whole town’s buildings are used constantly by the same guild so you can’t escape them, start to feel like their characters are weeds.

So help me, continue to blaspheme and I will be having steak tonight.

Also I can’t quote posts worth a damn.

Pullo, what is it the kids say these days? Based? Red-Pilled?

Whatever it is; THIS!

  1. Any light classes (Priest, Paladin and so forth) that do not understand the concept of the light or the teachings.

Here are two quotes from the WoWpedia:

"The Light is often said to bring about feelings of positive emotion—hope, courage, comfort—coming from the “heart.”

And

“Recent events have shown the Light can be just as dangerous as the Void to those who delve too deeply into it. Due to the Light’s tendency towards only one path, it can lead the overly devout to closed-mindedness, adamantly refusing to acknowledge any other power or lifestyle other than the Light.”

Yes, you can be too devouted. Though that would only happen due to events happening to you. Perhaps you witnessed some gruesome events or tragedies that made you this way but in no way will you just “believe” it by yourself.

The light, as when you wield it, is supposed to embrace and you as a character are supposed to EMBRACE those that are in a bad spot.

The draenei say in one of their NPC speeches: “Be kind to those less fortuned”. And they are the closest connected to the light.

Here’s another quote from the “Tome of Divinity” :

" In all things, paladins must reflect the [Light] which supplements our strength. To strive to be divine for one of our kind does not mean we strive for godhood–we strive to be good in all actions.

Although called upon to smite evil in these harsh times, you must always remember that it’s aiding others that will truly set you apart from the other citizens. Compassion, patience, bravery–these things mean as much to a paladin as strength in battle.

Know this well, and never forget it."

YES, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO TALK TO THAT VOID ELF AND HELP HIM/HER IN HIS DIRE SITUATION AND NOT WANTING TO “PURGE” HIM/HER SINCE THAT PERSON IS YOUR ALLY.

And no, you can’t be “too devouted” in the middle of Stormwind. That’s just BS and you know it. Too devouted would only be smaller groups which would entirely be overshadowed by the ones that do good. So if you want to be a zealot, get out of SW.

  1. People that roleplay overly racist characters in Stormwind.

By the gods this one triggers me even more. Have you seen how many different races are in Stormwind? Have you or nah?

Gnomes, draenei, high elves, void elves, kaldorei, half elves, worgen, 1 goblin and probably (if Azeroth was a breathing and living world) alot more races such as the death knights which are a race on their own.

So you are in the middle of Stormwind, surrounded by alot of different races and probably even work with them together, yet you somehow are racist. Yes, that one knight guy from WC3 who shoo’ed the quel’dorei away was racist. I get it.

THOUGH HE WASN’T A PALADIN. So if you wanna be an overly racist knight w/e, sure… Go ahead. But please don’t go into the middle of Stormwind because for YOUR character it makes absolutely no sense to go into a city with so many different races gathering.

Overly racist light user? No. Just no. Goes for any lightforged draenei too. You are the embodiment of the light. You are supposed to feel sorry for YOUR OWN ALLIES that DABble in the void. Not try to kill them ya donkey. They are LESS fortunated than you. Remember the quote of the draenei NPC’s? “BE KIND TO THOSE LESS FORTUNED”.

  1. People that write out the accent of draenei.

  2. People with the conversation skills of a dead donkey.

  3. House guilds.

  4. People that only go onto the low fantasy aspect. Warcraft is an incredible high fantasy world, so accept it.

  5. (Though this is more a problem on all of RP and not only Alliance side) People that identify their character over their being and not their personality.

Remember dragon rp’ers, people that want to roleplay san’layn and so forth?

Ye, I do. But oftenly people don’t roleplay these because they could be some cool concept and diffcult to roleplay, no no. They want to roleplay these because that’s the only interesting “trait” they can manage to give their character.

Interesting personality? Pah! What’s that? I am a UNIQUE thingy! That’s my characters quality!

Then you try to put up a conversation with them and you quickly realize that character is as boring and bland as any other random one. Such a waste and gives people that want to roleplay something unique because of interesting lore or w/e some bad reputation.

  1. Blacklists/“Don’t RP with that person!”

“Don’t RP with that person, he’s on our blacklist UwU”
“Don’t RP with that person, she’s doing bad tings”
“Don’t RP with that person, I don’t like that persons art!”

Just stop it. Especially those that have a blacklist but the leader not keeping themself to it but telling their members to follow it. Looking at you Illidari guild on Alliance that I will not say the name of.

Or any type of smaller scale that is on a 1 to 1 basis. Yes, I can roleplay with whoever I want and no, your opinion of w/e person is something I don’t even care the slightest about.

Many of these are impossible to do on Horde side since all Horde races are either aliens, shamanistic, undead or have connections to magic / outer world stuff.

Legitimately? Every non-Stormwind guild that HATES on Stormwind. This literally killed playing any human character for me.

I’m sorry that the only remaining human kingdom decided to shelter your people, honor their nobility at court, and is giving you resources with no want of recompense. But please, continue to $#!t on the king and his nation in his own city while saying how great Lordaeron, Strom, Alterac, etc. are. Definitely should have died while we were there.

You idiots.

The whole anti-Stormwind thing among northern RPers has always mystified me a little.

I understand xenophobia and the personal prejudices of characters, but at the same time, calling Stormwindians weak when they faced the brunt of the Orcish Horde, survived the sacking of their city, and survived to flourish is very  to me at times, given how common it seems to be.

I extend the point made to Pullo to this post. Especially the Light breakdown and highlighting just how bad the whole ‘Lumen Vult’ nonsense that seems to have gripped the majority of Paladin or even Human players for far too long now. I say ‘bad’ objectively; it doesn’t gel with what we know as canon. Exceptions should be just that, not the rule.
If we’re going to make up whatever we want within the setting, we might as well all just bugger off and play on Moonguard…

The only way you can maybe make this work, is if you play an older human from before all the new races showed up and you have the attitude of “they took our jobs” you should be allowed to play a close minded angry old person who yell at clouds and elves all day long.

but if you want to go full Garithos in stormwind, you should rethink your RP choices.
I have a very racist void elf, who hates pretty much everyone, and tolerating only a few races/people, and logically he stays away from the races he hates, I mean why would he want to be seen talking to the lesser racers, when he (and a chosen few) is all the company he needs.

It is, tho

Nuh-uh. It is the capital of the Human Kingdom of Stormwind, or Azeroth as it used to be called. Calling it the Capital of the Alliance is like calling Berlin the Capital of NATO. For a start there isn’t one, and secondly, why Berlin? There is no Capital of the Alliance (Logically Ironforge would make more sense), and people only think that way because ‘Fantasy setting, yaaaay, lots of strange races! Humans have to be goodies and the best though…’

Stormwind is -not- the Capital of the Alliance, any more than Orgrimmar is the Capital of the Horde, as much as Blizzard monkey around with the place.

So Anduin is High King of the Alliance, with Stormwind as seat of government…

Stormwind’s the Capital of the Alliance while Orgrimmar’s the capital of the Horde. If that’s not obvious with how everything is focused on those two cities then idk what to tell you
