i’m currently 28 and about to be 29 soon, but i cannot even handle 2 mobs at once with blizzard+frost nova. i’ve tried 3-4 level lower mobs, result is same. i can barely kill 23-24 level mobs if they are more than 2.
i put one point in improved blizzard and it’s currently rank 2. i use emberstone staff since 19-20 level. so, is this about gear or something else? where should i try to aoe grind in 29-30 level?
It is not easy to do aoe grid, especially if you do not have decent gear and proper set of talents.
I would try to train with small groups that are green for you till you get hang of it,also check if you have good talent setup, can’t really do anything about gear if you do not have money to spend.
You can always try arcane explosion instead of Blizzard, if you can keep them in nice small area and keep distance while running around them it will be safer then keeping distance with Blizzard and running into other mobs.
Also you might be having action delay issues, I had them when I was aoe farming which made my infuriated, for me it seems Twitch was causing problem and it was gone as soon as I closed the program, so if you have some lag you should take care of it too, because for aoe farming it is very huge deal.
It’s the mere one point in Improved Blizzard holding you back. If you want to Blizzard grind, you more or less need three points there and three in Permafrost. I wouldn’t even try with just 1/3 Improved Blizzard.
AoE farming doesn’t really take off until you get your level 30 talents, you should still be able to do it to some extent but for two mobs it’d be quicker to just poly one and focus the other.
Have seen mages aoe level already at Westfall with arcane explosion, but yes , if we are talking about Blizzard leveling then it will be difficult till you get proper slow.
I have no experience with playing mage but in guildchat the subject came up recently as well and a few mages confirmed it’s difficult till you get certain spells and access to certain talents in your early 30’s. So that may simply be it
Same here as Hunter and Warlock .My hunter is 32 level and Warlock 35 and I can’t handle multiple mobs at liver 23-30.
That might also be due to delay, if so then it’s not something you have any control over, all I can suggest is shutting down any background apps.
The standard Hunter multi-mob method is pretty simple really. Using a standard tanking pet. round up the mobs until your pet has aggro on all of them. Keep your pet on ‘Defensive’. - at low level you’ll probably be able to handle up to three, any more than that and your pet will die, as you don’t yet have the tools to cope with it.
Once around three mobs are attacking your pet, focus your pet on one of them and burn it down, cast Mend Pet, If something breaks loose and aggros you, send your pet onto it, cast Growl manually. Repeat until all mobs are dead, by which time your pet will probably be at around 12% health.
And that’s really all there is to it. The Warlock method is pretty similar, except Voidwalkers aren’t usually quite as strong as Hunter pets at low level, so three mobs might be pushing it unless you’re heavily twinked - and of course you’re dotting up the mobs rather than firing shots. Try to focus on one mob at a time, rather than dotting up all of them at once, else they’ll probably break aggro.
You can also try the iconic ‘Fear Kiting’ technique - but mastering it takes a bit of practice and isn’t recommended for heavily populated areas.
There’s also an AOE Hunter approach for higher level characters, based on using Volley and Concussive Shot in conjunction with a Gorilla pet using Thunderstomp. It can be a bit tricky to pull off but can be used to greatly speed up farming.
Thanks so much for tips. I’ll do it. As for lag I have the highest settings, and of course there are a lot of people around it is also more lag. It’s just sad that I need to lower the graphics settings.
My other char is a lock too and I had similar struggles. I tried both affliction LS spec and also destro. Destro could nuke down mobs yeah but the downtime sucked. And the aggro from my pet also sucked. As affliction I just felt way too squishy and my pet could never hold aggro so I was always ‘tanking’ the mobs. Honestly my leveling experience as a warlock really put me off the class. Maybe I was doing it wrong? I just felt so squishy, that my demons were useless, I was always out of something mana or health, which made me vulnerable in WPvP and Vs random respawning mobs. I’ve found priest to be much more enjoyable for me personally to level. I’m going to try my warlock again in the future, but I’m honestly sick of him right now and needed a break! Lol
Edit: as for AoE farming as mage, I think it was always difficult. Takes some skill, gear and talents and good farming spots it seems. It’s also a risky job to do too I guess, one or two resists can bugger everything up. I’d like to try it one day though
In the past I have always played with Warlock and Hunter.
But now I feel that I really don’t like Warlock. I was going to go to level 40 when I am now level 35 for free mount and to farm some gold. But I no longer feel like having pets to take care of, or fighting with troll rod. lol (I probably played too much survival game)
I have a hard time choosing class, maybe I should try Warrior or Rogue.
with levelling gear, Blizzard damage is not too powerful. You will hardly kill 3-4 lebel lower mobs by using only blizzard, let alone equal levels. The problem is the mana cost is disproportionate to its damage, effectively running you out of mana before you can kill anything.
