At this stage of the game (phase 1), in resto and elemental shaman BiS gear there’s only one slot that is mail armor (bracers). Everything else is either cloth or leather. And if you’re a paladin, a druid, a dps warrior or a hunter, most of your gear will be something else than the armor type with the most armor you can use.
There are differences in the gaming cultures between classic and retail players, however, and you should always talk about the loot distribution before the run. I leveled as an elemental from 40 to 60 and not even once had i more than a single mail armor item in my gear. I got booted out from a group in Sunken Temple for rolling caster hands (which are btw BiS for resto shamans with +healing on them) and the group leader was pretty mad at me.
Lastly, ask yourself why are you running this dungeon and why are these other people here. Everyone wants to upgrade their gear with the best possible items that suit on their spec and playing style. Armor type makes difference only with the amount of armor an item has and if armor has very little meaning for your class and spec it shouldn’t be the reason to not to roll on the item.
Don’y bother with them mate… everyone will hapilly say go and heal, you’re shaman, and enha isnt really good spec for dps… but when you roll for int/spirit gear they will rage… people are mostly like that but it shouldn’t bother you… roll on all healing upgrades, who cares that those are dps upgrades on lower levels aswell
Man i level as ele and im full cloth, if that mage think cloth is his and i should stick to mail hes gona have a hard time later in game… My whole prebis is cloth…
My own personal opinion is I don’t anyone rolling on cloth items as long as you have let the cloth only wearers roll need first. You as a Shammy have 3 choices of armour to wear.
No, you did not ninja. Some Warrior BiS is leather. Paladin’s are plate wearers but wear Cloth to heal. Hunter’s can wear mail but often find leather pieces with superior stats, which would likely annoy a Feral Druid or a Rogue, but its the way it is sadly.
If it is an upgrade, it is an upgrade. It may be polite to state your intent to roll Need before you do so and explain why you are doing so, but I would not call you a ninja.
Well when we raided Icc,i know holy paladins used the crafted cloth feet, and wrists as bis.Its nothing unusal, then they interduced the bonus/penalty for type of armor.
But i sure chek if i join a pug and need on item if anyone in group needs it more then me,espcaily if its not my type of armor.
tanks: should only role their top armor (leather for druid, plate for pala/war)
dps: rogues and feral should stick to leather. i dont know enough about hunters to comment, but ele and boomkins might have an argument for cloth gear.
healers: if it has spirit, mp5 (was that in classic?) or bonus healing, if its an upgrade, then you can roll for it WHATEVER max armor you usually use. if you roll on a lower piece, just point out why. “im holy paladin, but this cloth piece has bonus healing on it”.
Cloth is much more readily available than caster leather and mail. Cloth is appropriate & viable for shammies, hpalas and druids. It isn’t retail, there isn’t super balanced and homogenized loot for everyone.
Let’s get some things straight. If you’re a plate wearer and want to roll on a leather item you ONLY DO SO if the leather wearer in the group does not need it. By giving yourself the entire list of armour types to roll on you have a myriad of gear to fill in your slots. I don’t care about your BiS. That Rogue can only use cloth and leather. The Rogue has a much smaller selection to roll from, don’t reduce that even further by being a greedy dick.
Make a group that doesn’t need the item you want and go that route instead. And don’t patronise me with the “This is Classic not retail” bull. I played Vanilla beta right through to wrath and this is how it has Always been on every server I’ve ever played on BECAUSE IT’S FAIR. Smh…
I am 100% aware of that. However as cloth wearers only get to roll on cloth loot whereas Shammies can roll on Mail, Leather and cloth and a Pally can roll on Plate, Mail, Leather and cloth the done thing would be to see if the cloth user needs it first.
However, sadly the game has gotten into such a poor state where it is now everyone for themselves, I guess just do whatever you want. I know when playing my shammy I will always ask the clothies if they need it before I go ahead and need it. Thats just me I guess.
I agree with you on the asking part. 100%. And I also agree with the everyone for themselves attitude, but I think it’s pretty poor to ask shammies and druids to stick to mail/leather if there’s a clothie there. Their options for leather and mail are extremely limited whilst clothies get a wealth of options.
It’s quite unfair to ask a resto shaman to forego cloth gear because a priest can only wear cloth. As someone said in the thread earlier. Shamans would never get blue gear from 1-60 if they sacrificed to clothies.
You are completely correct in your attitude Missy. This is how it’s always been. I seriously question peoples morals when they can’t understand this. You ask the class that can only wear that gear if they need it first. It’s the polite and respectful thing to do.
You are not ninja looter but its more of being considered towards others.I play paladin and I get to wear cloth/leather/mail/plate and I always waited for rest to pass before I need on something that’s not plate.
