Anniversary Quality of Life Improvements

There are some QoL improvements that I’d like to see added to Anniversary servers and I’m curious what the community thinks about these:

Modern Auction House - The original AH is slow and inconvenient. It’s prone to exploitation where people will list items at a low buyout price in order to get ahead. You can’t easily buy the amount you need because item stacks are fixed. It’s overall slower than the modern auction house system. I don’t see a reason not to have it on Anniversary as it was already introduced to regular Classic.

Cataclysm Talent Interface & Talent Preview - I’d like to see the Classic interface reworked completely to allow for all three talent trees to be displayed at the same time, in full length. I also think that you should be able to preview talents before applying them similarly to the setting in WotLK and beyond. You can already have both if you install the Talented addon.

Professions Tab - Added in Cataclysm and displays your profession progress instead of you having to look in skills under character panel. I think it would be neat to have on Anniversary.

Dragonflight’s Profession UI - In addition to the professions tab, they could also add retail’s profession UI. It’s bigger, has a search bar and you can favorite recipes.

Gear Set Manager - Self explanatory I think. For now you can use an addon but I think this should be baseline.

Pings and World Markers - Also self explanatory. Nice qol for raiders.

Expanded Quest Log Size - This one might be a bit controversial, but I think the quest log size should be bumped up by at least 5.

Quest Objectives on the Map - Added in WotLK, could be easily integrated on Anniversary realms. I think it might as well be because most people use a guide addon anyway.

Map Pins - In Dragonflight, they made it so that you can place pins on the map, and if you did, you’d be able to see it in the game world as well. Useful for when someone needs to find Mankrik’s wife.

Increased Nameplate Distance - Why wait for TBC when you can just introduce this now? Especially when you can already make enemy names gigantic with accessibility options.

Achievements - This might also be an unpopular take for Classic but I’d like to see achievements on Anniversary servers. Assuming it’s going to progress to Wrath anyway, I don’t see why they shouldn’t be introduced earlier. Achievements as they were in Classic are not as abundant as on retail either way, so they are a cute way to track your journey’s progress more than anything.

Increased Draw Distance - This one is a personal wish more than a quality of life but I’d like to see modern WoW’s increased draw distance on Anni. As it is right now the draw distance is neither short enough nor long enough to avoid seeing pop-ins in the distance, which I think is really immersion breaking.

Modern AH is not an AH at all - only a player-to-player shop. No thanks. It’s not Classic in any way or mean.

In Era you mean. Or what? In Era we have some more search and sort possibilities, not the modern AH at all. You still can bid or buy out, and have to take the whole stack people posted - or leave it.

Also a hard no. The cata Talents take away a significant part of our freedom of choice with forces spec/number of talent points.
If you only mean the visual part of it then only as a toggle on-off, as I dislike the cata looks.

If there’s already an addon doing this, I think that players wanting this should just download the addon.

Yes - this is just “cosmetic” change, and a real Quality of Life.

Yes - you can do the same using in-game facilities like shortcuts on your bars, or macros, this is also pure quality - and one that does not change how the game works.

Only on a toggle. I’d like to not have them forced on me.

Enabling you to see or have more Quests in your log?
See - yes please. Pick up - nope, changes game.

I’d like this too - also it is of the “Don’t like it - don’t use it” variety.

I’d like this. I always loved Achievements and once again it’s a “Don’t like it - don’t use it” thing

On a toggle - as my old potato would be unable to handle the game elseways

How is it functionally different from the old AH? You don’t interact with anyone through either.

Examples with totally fictional prices - and with a reservation that I understood the Retail AH rigth from reading about it and testing it in SL - I do not have Retail installed, neither have I paid for it.

I want to buy 30 Linen Cloth

Old/Classic AH:
I go to the AH, sort Linen Cloth after bid:
You posted a stack of 20 for 2 S buyout and 1.5 S bid. Krazz posted 20 for 1,99 S buyout, 1,98 Bid. I have now these options:

  • I can buy out both, giving me 40 Linen Cloth.
  • I can place a bid on both your auctions, hoping not to be overbid. (and go farm while waiting)
  • I can Buyout Krazz’s 20 Linen Cloth, and place a bid on yours hoping not to be overbid - (and go farm while waiting)
  • I can Buyout Krazz’s (or yours if I know Krazz to be a bot) Linen Cloth, and go farm for the rest

Retail/New AH
You posted 20 Linen Cloth for 2 S a piece. Krazz posted 20 for 1,99 S a piece.
I have now one option:

  • I go th the AH, sort Linen Cloth after price. I buy 20 of Krazz’s and 10 of yours with one click. No auction in this, only a shop.
  • I cannot not buy the ‘auctions’ of known bots if they are the cheaper option (Krazz in this example)

Not a question of interacting, as you see.
Also the looks of the modern AH does not fit in Classic surroundings.

Edited for clarifications and typos.

That’s true. I haven’t though about bidding.

However, I’ve played WoW for a long time now, and I have rarely ever bid on auctions to get what I want because of how inconvenient it is. And from my experience in Classic, most people will set the bidding price very low just to come out on top when someone looks for an item, then cancel their auction before it expires if someone does bid on the item. This continuous misuse of the bidding function makes it a lot less attractive in practice.

So, all things considered, I think the benefits of a faster, cleaner modern AH far outweigh the negatives, even if it then essentially becomes a “player-to-player shop”.

Botting behaviour - why I want to be able to decide whose auctions I bid on/buy.

I disagree here; an Auction house that’s not an auction house should not be in Classic.
A better workaround would be not making it possible to cancel an auction once a bid has been placed.

Edit: Typos -Muphry’s law at its finest.

Give me proper stacks when it comes to pots/flasks etc…20 in each stack.

Yes, all of these should be in game as a toggle (like retail guild ui is now) but they won’t because Blizz doesn’t care, all the addicts will play regardless.

i agree/dont care(achievements) about all ur points but last i played retail blizzard’s gear manager would be practically useless in classic as it didn’t allow queuing sets when in combat/casting/dead/in cc like u can with itemrack, dont even know if u can keybind them.

Another big fix would be either adding Might of Stormwind or fixing it as an exploit and preventing ally from getting it in the first place

blizzard’s gear manager would be practically useless in classic as it didn’t allow queuing sets when in combat/casting/dead/in cc like u can with itemrack

Sounds like gameplay automation to me and something that should be banned anyway along with some of the other addons when they get to that.

You can do the same thing by putting the items on your action bars - only you’ll run out of bar-space  You can also make a macro that does the same and place this on the bar
The Gear set manager makes it a bit easier to set up is all.

Just stay with MOP or retail please. This is Classic.

Strange. I don’t remember chronoboons and free rank 14 being in vanilla.

Blizzard added gear sets in like wotlk, they have been ok with such automation for like 17 years

That’s different. It doesn’t auto swap for you as you yourself pointed out.

nor does itemrack, u use a keybind

Why do u come to these forums if u dont have the people or blizzard’s interest in mind? you clearly don’t want the game to be good.
when you are against the retail version of ah (i.e fewer people being scammed, the ah being more efficient) it’s evident u are just a troll

Just logged into my classic character to check and yes it does. It immediately swapped my PvP trinket after I had used it. Swapped back to it too when the trinket went off cd. Obviously you have to be out of combat but it does work if you toggle “Auto Queue This Slot” under a specific slot in the Queue tab.

Honestly at least Dranina provided a decent argument against the modern AH, but people like Andruid just irritate me ngl. “Go back to retail” is such a crazy reply, it is as if I’m asking for the the devs to rip the DH class straight out of retail and put it in Classic.

I play both and I simply want the game’s interface not to be stuck in 2019 or even 2004 sometimes. I want it to be better because, frankly, improvements like the modern client (that provides better addon support) and in-game features like the interact button or even auto loot that weren’t in the original vanilla are why I even bother with the official realms over the alternatives.

Your meaning of “good” means Retail-like. I love the Classic feeling. And the the poster above: yeah, you can remove chronoboons - we didn’t ask for it.

Just stick to era :')

You don’t understand that mosts of us here want the game to not evolve - to stay Classic. If you don’t like that, you can mitigate some of the pain point using addons - but what you suggest is a full upgrade to Retail - which is why I redirect you there because you don’t seem to have the Classic mindset.
