AotC Mounts on Trading Post

i actually got really sad when i saw the wowhead post about this, the newer generation of players entitlement has synergized with blizzards twitch drop participation reward strategy, it’s the worst combination for the overall health of wow.

this new trend of blizzard erase history by giving out unobtainable historic items such as spirit of competition and now this mount has to stop, having goals and in-game activities to strive for, it incentivizes players to participate in the content while it’s relevant, how is this not a good and healthy thing for the overall state of the game?
if players knew we could get whatever item by just waiting, why even bother playing at all?

this harms the loyal, old school players more than it pleases the newer generation of players, where are all of these comments prior to the wowhead article of this mount? for old school players mounts, titles, achievements, even rare transmog has sentimental and historical value

siege of orgrimmar was out for 14 months, if you played back then and genuinely cared about this mount, you would have it, to players like that this mount is nothing more than just a mount that collects dust in their collection tab, no value and will
be mounted up on a few times just like the feldrake, just like the spectral wind rider that they gave away as a participation reward, these mounts completely lost their value and means nothing because EVERYONE has them.

there are less than 100 unobtainable mounts in this game, take a look at how many are obtainable, i just cannot comprehend how people who took initiative back in the days to get a ‘A TIME-LIMITED ITEM’ cant it just have it stay that way, you never see OG players screaming and kicking and being overly entitled
over mounts that they miss out on, it’s literally never a thing, it’s always people who 1, never took in initiative during a certain time period OR players who did not even touch that specific expansion, it’s beyond me.

you tell people that these rare unobtainable items are just pixels, and aren’t that important, but are literally throwing a fit, screaming about how you hate how exlusive they are.

if anyone from blizzard is actually reading this thread, which i doubt please, for the sake of the game we all love, please think this through, the impact this decision will have on wow going forward is going to be catastrophic because we all know
blizzard has shown time after time that they always, always push for more, keep in mind the twtich drops started with a pet, then the feldrake arrived, then another mount. this won’t be a one time deal type thing, they will continue to push rare, historical items
and give them away and make them completely useless. so sad it’s like no one truly cares or love this game anymore, seasonal pattern has worked for years and years and years, can we stop changing this that has obviously worked, ive grown up playing this game and i never thought this would be a thing, the official version of world of warcraft is actually transforming into a private server, more than it already has.

instead of bringing back items with historical value, you need to make new items for players who missed out on these so they can create their OWN memories just like we did.

world of warcraft’s fundamental seasonal pattern is a big reason for this games success, it’s an MMORPG, character progression like please people take a step back and reflect, if EVERYONE in this game has EVERYTHING then no one stands out.

Reimplementing prestige items is not good, they should stay prestigious, the trading post worked wonders implementing old item sets that didn’t have a place from previous expacs or just random one off cool cosmetics, why keep pushing it? People liked it like that.

Now add the brutosaur blizzard.

Tbh they should, but they should also raise the character goldcap before they do. Bruto today should be around 12-13mil rather than 5mil that was the price at bfa.

That’s a non issue, in a world of fomo nobody will wait a few years just so that maybe some reward returns

Yet some get upset every time something reappears that has been removed from the game. And for all sorts of reasons.

You even see it with sales from the Blizzstore where they heavily discount things.

It is highly debatable that its healthy or not for wow. With this you should have been there to do it attitude why any new player should ever come to wow? There is so much that missed so why should they chooses wow over any other newer mmo.

Calling it the erase of history is a bit too much whether you like what is happening or not. It can still incentivizes to play as long as they introduced only years and expansions after. Also why this should be special? Gear erode, kill achievements erode since you can just go back after 1-2 expansion and murder things. Glory achievements and mounts erode even faster.

And a bit back to old players and such. One of my friends that indeed played since vanilla stopped in df cause he disliked many things but overall his main issue for a long time was FOMO and how a certain part of the community so happy about such attitude.
Your memories should have historical values to you, that you did things with your friends and companions, as a community (which so many times brought up when loyal old players complain that how much better the community part was in vanilla) not a mount.

“you tell people that these rare unobtainable items are just pixels, and aren’t that important, but are literally throwing a fit, screaming about how you hate how exlusive they are.”
Disliking excluse things while not finding too much prestige value in it is not mutually exclusive.

In my opinion the only debating thing in this should be that how much challange should be required to reattain those old mounts, and not that they should come back or not. Like let you select an old AOTC mount as a bonus reward when you do the current AOTC raid achievement. That way you can’t even complain that it is less prestigous unless you start to delve into silly things like but that raid was harder and older. This would incentivizes people even more to do the current content if they want some old rewards they missed.

Exclusivity is a stupid thing in this game about literally pixels.

But I don’t understand why it has to be this exact mount. Why don’t Blizzard just ever so slightly change it. They could change something really small like it’s eye colour, or a different style of saddle.

This would please everyone:

  1. Newer players will be happy they got a cool looking mount which looks almost identical to an unobtainable one.

  2. Boomers will be happy as their precious exclusivity is preserved as the new one has blue eyes instead of red. They can continue to wish goodnight to their Kor’kron War Wolf before logging off.

I have to laugh at these reoccurring remarks. It’s a constant paradox on this subject.

There are those that come out and say with honesty, “I care about the pixels!” and they give their reasons.

Then there’s those that say they don’t care about pixels, but with bated breath will argue to the hilt that they should be able to acquire these pixels, most of the time in the easiest way possible. For example, a tender store. Often using argumentative tactics that would belittle the past achievement or trophy. Such as, the mount is ugly, the achievement was easy when they have not even got it.

You name it, they’ll shame it!

Then there are the oddballs that say don’t care and want everything open anyway, often collectors who see the payoff in having everything unlocked, or those players who don’t even play anymore and are just here for an argument.

Because pixels mean nothing to all these people right? That’s why they’re arguing so valiantly.

It reminds me of that picture of a paper face that’s smiling, but behind the paper the person is seething with rage.

As for me, you deserve it if you earn it. By all means bring it back, but bring it back in ways you have to earn it. Otherwise leave it where it belongs, in the past and accept that mmo’s are games that traverse time. You can’t always be there for these things and others have earned them fairly!

WoW has lost alot because of this.

Why bother doing anything, when most of it is just handed out at a later date or just far easier later on?

Couldn’t agree more, retail is a seasonal game, it’s absolutely hollow.

And so tastes differ. For you it is just an ugly curve mount, I think it is a beautiful wolf and I find it sad back then having now 85 character so I could had a chance to get one.

I would because this wolf is beautiful and I really want him as most of the wolfes.

Having 1/10 of your lifetime (in best case) something exclusive is a well damn long enough time to have something exclusive.

10 years have passed since that mount could be earned. People that got it back then had 10 years to rub into other peoples face. For reference, those 10 years are 5,258,880 Minutes. Just so you understand that point of view a bit more directly in perception.

It is time to have items be re-introduced after such a long time. I am all for making it the rule that FOMO items only stay exclusive for 10 years maximum, before becoming available again to the players.

heramaar you started playing in 2019, the fact that you think you are entitled to anything is beyond me, to even begin thinking you are entitled to items in expansions you never played a day in your life is mind-boggling

The content shouldn’t have been made unavailable in the first place. Let things have low drop-rate, require achievements, anything, but if it’s added, it should be an option to achieve for anyone at any time. As an RPer nothing’s as sad as the removal of options to play, be it cosmetics or quests, and it’s doubly true when there is no alternative added to the things removed from the game before you ever considered playing, or sometimes even born.

I never said that I personally think that I am “entitled to anything”. All I say is that FOMO items/transmogs are a dumb idea. A dumb idea that makes games worse for the illusion of people believing they did achieve something special. No. They didn’t. They just played at the right time the right activity, while others never even got the chance to do so.

Imagine if the Olympic games would only have been held once per century. A lot of sports people would be pissed af because they couldn’t partake because they are either too young or too old to do so. That’s basically the situation we have with FOMO in WoW.

the fact that we are having this conversation proves we achieved something special, it’s always the legion babies onward who never accomplished anything in these expansions who wants the cool stuff, nah respect the og players and make new items. you act and talk like wow back then was how it is now, nah it was less accessible and to even be in a position to obtain the coolest stuff back then required years of experience prior, but this is what people who started after mop has no idea about

That response tells me on the other hand that you as a person are faaaaaaar too deep in that rabbit hole and don’t even consider coming out to see the sky.

Let me make a few examples of my own history in WoW:

  • I joined in BfA S2.

    • I did later see Legion Top 500 PvP sets. I can’t get them anymore because I never played during that time (and never would have reached that playing level anyways).
  • 2 years later, Shadowlands S2.

    • I see the PvP Elite armor set for plate classes. I want to have it. I try to get into PvP with WoW.
    • The PvP community in general, as unhelpful as it is, outright declined to even consider the thought of grouping up for Rated Arena.
    • I joined MULTIPLE communities and managed only to get ONCE someone to play Arena with together (spoiler, it didn’t work out, because PvP in WoW generally sucks in experience - let me be real, you need to be either insane or a masochist to enjoy rated PvP)
    • I gave up due to the entry barrier being insanely high with group-requirement to even play rated Arena, Solo-Queue not being implemented yet and people in the PvP community either being very toxic or not interested in helping (“because it could ruin my rating”-thoughts).

Even with the chance to play, it is not always the fact that people are actually able to get certain things. And when it comes to player skill that is fine.

1-2 years ago Blizzard brought back the Mage Tower from Legion temporarily. People loved it returning. Others hated it.

Did World of Warcraft die because of that? Not at all. Will World of Warcraft die when AotC mounts for 8k Tender (btw. that’s 8 months saving up) come to the Trading Post? Not. At. All.

Like come on. How likely is it that someone will save up 8k Tender for a mount without even knowing precisely when it will return to the Post?

i stopped reading after you said ‘i gave up’ as i predicted, this is the raw mentality of legion babies onward, i’ve seen it a billion times this is not a first for me i’ve been around, people with the mind-set of ‘giving up’ lack an emotional connection to this game regardless, you never cared to begin with, if your ‘history’ in wow has to include you giving up, please just stop giving your input on the overall health of the game. twtich drops are made for players just like you

you never got to experience the peak of wow, all you have experienced is world of warcraft standing on its last leg your whole /played so this is all you know, you literally have only seen this game when it was below a million subs, you were 14 years late to the party, joining the game with the ‘i give up’ mentality and thinking you deserve items others played the game to get. unreal
