I’m not 100% sure at which point armory was released but I can remember using it frequently (pretty sure it was before tbc) as a kid to check out gear of other players. It helped me to understand better the impact of stats and builds. I know armory was removed at some point and probably for a good reason. However, what’s ur opinion on it? Do you think it’s useful and should we get it for classic?
Didn’t even know it had been removed.
I’m really glad, I hated that damned thing with the power of a thousand suns - and it was instrumental to my decision to always post on the same low level forum alt.
Far too many armory bashers, and people who used your armory profile to judge the content of your posts.
“I enjoy fishing. The Barrens is a good place to fish for Deviate Fish”
“Shut up!! ur sword enchant suxxx u got wrong stats on ur boots!!! OMG u not even cleared (insert some raid or other) WTF is that achievement??? U are disgrace to ur class delete ur account NOW!!!111”
I’d prefer not to go back to that thanks very much.
I feel like what you described only happens whenever a person who has never done anything other than LFR complains about mythic raid design, but hey, there’s plenty of buttholes around, so I could also believe what you said
Fair enough, never happened to me though but it’s easy to believe.
However if I remember it right, at the pre tbc Era armory wasn’t tied to the forums in any way. It was a separate interface where you had to search for a specific character name.
It’s half there already.

Whoa I had no idea
Not available for classic characters though
Armory was introduced in Cataclysm, it is 100% not coming to Classic and must not do.
#NO

Are you sure? Cos i do remember going through armory when I was like 12. So like 14 years ago.
It was fully released at Cata, but it was out before then as a beta version that was buggy.
Well yes, but actually no
According to this:
https://wowwiki.fandom.com/wiki/Armory_updates
The armory was introduced in early TBC and was removed in Cata to make way for a unified battle.net interface.
So it is not a Vanilla feature, strictly speaking. And I am sure if some form of armory is introduced for Classic, people will find a way to use it to exclude “unworthy” players from their pick-up groups and raids. Whether that is a good thing or bad is for everyone to judge on their own.
I for one wouldn’t mind it at all.
it was made in tbc… the armory… stop spreading nonsense (to all the people saying it was made in cata). It was just yellowish and ugly but it did exist during tbc and beyond.
It was definitely a thing in TBC, because I remember that was the first time I ever got seriously armory bashed by someone on the forum.
Back then I used to post on my main; I wasn’t very knowledgable about theorycrafting or class mechanics, so I asked in my class forums about the best gems to equip for some armor I had. I had a guy absolutely rip into me because I had an enchant on my melee weapon that wasn’t ideal for my class. (this was in the days before I’d learned how to deal with online bullying and how to turn the tables on bullies). I was quite hurt and upset and made the mistake of showing it; which of course made it ten times worse, others joined in the abuse… and it got so bad that a CM had to step in - all from having the wrong enchant, sheesh.
In short, armory and armory bashing was definitely a thing in the TBC period. If anyone tried that now I’d rip them a new one… but I’ve still no desire to ever see the armory make a return.
I’d say yes if it wouldn’t be pointless, since there are no achievements it would just be a picture of your character with the progress of the 1 raid. No real need for it since you could get the same thing with a screenshot.
No, its only purpose is for others to vet you.
The answer is NO. All it does is turn the forums into an elitist e-peen measuring contest. It makes everyone but the top 1% feel unwelcome.
What’s wrong with that?
Nobody does this. If you have ever encountered someone who did this then rest assured that they are clinically insane and a unique case.
Before I can reply to you, I am going to check your bank accounts, job, education to decide if you are worthy of the conversation.
Its just rude and elitist.
