Have they fixed PvP-gearing? Or is it the same, “We lock gear behind certain ratings, so people will buy tokens in order to buy boost to get their gear. No, it’s totally not intentional design.”
The raids aren’t a bad watch but it is a game that is generally much more fun to play because it really doesn’t aim to be competitive/high end like WoW does, which ultimately draws views.
It’s a game far better played than viewed.
I would have fallen in love with you if you had called your toon shockaroonie…
Yes… Yes he did didn’t he…?
No competition - no emotions.
Took a peek at ff forums and Square welcomes Asmongold with open arms. They know it gives them recognision.
For fun I rather play Warframe or Destiny. FF had this problem that it drags trough boring grind for too long before it gets fun.
yea there is that but as a few people here will tell you . ff14 isn’t a game designed for the RUSH mentality… it is about taking your time and enjoying it.
a strange concept for many wow players i’m sure.
yea this was floating around my wow discord yesterday…
the survey not asmongolds face…
i think blizzard are a bit worried.
judging by what i’ve seen in FF14, they better be. FF14 caught up. It’s no longer the era of wow being the dominant MMO by a considerable margin.
They have to be really stupid and ignorant if they’re not afraid.
It did? What did you see? Not being toxic or anything… Just want to hear something new. With details. For the sake of bringing the comparison further.
If we’re talking endgame WoW is still dominant, but not by much with a 7 month content drought.
I’m not in RUSH mentailty. Imma a slowpoke in games.
I’m in FUN mentailty. You know, I don’t like to do my chores before I can have play time in video games.
ok. from the beginning.
FF14 early on is a bit slow. you have a 2.5 second GCD which is annoying at first, however eventually you get more and more abilities that aren’t on GCD. So you’ll fill your rotation bar quite nicely.
There are A LOT of buttons to push. I’m playing a tank as my main, and i think i got like 9 defensive abilities. just the top of my head, I got 3 self shields, 1 ability that prevents my hp from going below 1 for a bit, 2 self heals, one leech ability, 2 groupwide shields/damage reductions and some other stuff.
Your rotation changes and matures as you level up. It’s kind of different from wow. In wow, you level up. You get new stuff, but your rotation’s generally the same. But in FF, it matures. It grows and new aspects of it show up which completely changes how you do things.
Then the world. A teleport system that allows you to travel to places with gold. makes traveling much more convenient. And those centers create this sanctum area for all zones that attract gatherings of players.
Classes are much better in FF14. You can learn all classes with a single character. Which basically means all your progression is in one character. No need for 50 alts.
old content don’t have caps. Go wild. Farm as much as you want.
player housing. And a decent one at that too. Your free company can buy places, make it private or public. Lots of fun.
Interesting mount options. Things of a fantasy nature. Like a chair you can sit on that flies around. Or a bed of the same quality. Or a fluffy little ball of yarn looking thing. Or a 4 slot car.
And we’re just talking aesthetics.
Now a bit about gameplay and community.
1 month. A LOT of dungeons, trials and raids done. Some, had like 10 wipes in a row for the most stupid things imaginable. The most toxic thing i’ve seen was a guy saying “Learn your rotations” after the dungeon was done. Zero leavers. Zero insults. People help newbies.
Then it comes to content difficulty. Personally, I didn’t give savage raids a go. I’m still new. But based on what i’ve seen, they’re between heroic and mythic raid level difficulty. So not as difficult as high end wow stuff.
gearing system: done through professions, unique currency, or simple drops. or you can just buy stuff from market. They’re all relatively good. And of course, harder contents provide better gear.
professions: Professions aren’t like wow. Not even close. You ACTUALLY DO STUFF. you don’t go around right clicking rocks and call it a profession. You have a rotation. You build stuff. I’m a blacksmith for example. You have quality, durability and build meter which you have to balance with your rotation and find the optimal way of making the highest quality material.
socket mending is actually a really good part of professions too.
I’ve seen gatherings of people on different cities. One in particular is always fascinating to me. There’s a job/class called bard. They can play music. ANY Music. And people gather in cities, play music and people stand there to spectate and cheer.
the main quest story is really wonderful. It’s the essential quest chain you need to do once. And it takes you step by step, through normal gathering stuff, to alliance raids with 20+ players in it.
And more. If you want to know something else, you need to be a bit more specific. I just came up with some general stuff i remembered.
So much of this they need to bring into 10.0.
But I will say, and to it’s credit, it is an easy game to put down.
I will never personally get past the start and the massive manga story and dialouge and the slow leveling… I don’t consider Eight man mythic dungeons a raid, And I hear there is only one we ‘‘Wow players’’ would consider a raid to us released each expansion… Also that the PvP is even more busted than WoW’s one is… And the billions of loadingscreens in that game.
But truthfully thank you Alexima for that detailed response. It was a real read and insight into FF i rarely see anywhere around. And im sorry if my reply here is lackluster in comparison.
*Sigh * …Maybe I’ll try this damn game… for a fourth time. -_- If only I can get over the massive story and dialouges and stuff before the end game.
I don’t see mythic+ as a superior end game. No matter how much others like it.
A timer ESPORTS based game mode for an mmo is a failure to me. No matter how you look at it.
But the mythic raid is more difficult. yes.
Unfortunately, that won’t happen. Wow community died years ago. Some blame it on blizzard’s negligence. Some blame it on cross server play. Whatever the reason, It’s too late already.
To each their own. But yea. The pvp isn’t a strong point for FF. It’s probably its weakest point.
As for slow leveling… WOW was worse in BFA. 120 lvls of slow and excruciating grind for each character. At least in FF, you do it once and you’re done with that. And TBC and classic are FAR FAAAAAR worse.
as for 8 man contents, yea. The raids are generally 2 tanks 2 healers and 4 dps.
The fights are interesting though. And let’s be honest. AT MOST, raid groups are 20 man, while most, if not all just want to run a 10 man raid in wow. So it’s not that big of a difference anyways.
We will see… acknowledgment that their playerbase likes what FF14 offers is a start.
I will agree with what was said about PvP as well, it’s so abandoned on FF14.
What I mean is that in ff14 endgame is literally 4 raid bosses per content patch which are cleared on week 1, and after that it’s a 1 day raid logging/week to gear up. That can be both positive and negative depending on player perspective. Of course there’s a lot of side content available and I really think that for casual players it’s the better game, but the more “competitive” wow players will surely find endgame a bit lacking.
For the record… as far as uncle Kenrou here is concerned I didn’t aknowledge nothing yet… Just that I appreciate Alex’s insight and honest view. And that I might give this game a fourth look… If I survive all the loading screens and text dialouges that is.
I think it largely depending on what casual content you want as well. If you are into collectibles/achievement hunting then I’d side with WoW on this as well as it has more variety, there is a little bit of prestige in getting certain items, it won’t be made available on the store after a few months and so forth. If it is messing around, the roleplaying aspect and such then FF14 will offer more for that individual. I’ve said before the story and gameplay is a huge plus for me, but once I’ve done the content then there is little left, I’m no roleplayer, not really interested in interactions, if anything, I’d love nothing more to be able to world PvP and stick a swift one through the head of a bard, but hey ho :D.
