AV gripe and disappontment

Here are my suggestions to improve this complete disaster of a PvP system this game now has. First, there should be some changes to the BGs:

  1. Restore the original version of AV (with lots of guards and where you could capture the enemy towers as opposed to destroying them), make the NPCs even a bit stronger. Give them lots of HP and make them hit hard. A Naxx geared player shouldn’t be able to successfully fight more than 2 of them alone simultaneously, 2 should already be a challenge.
  2. Drastically increase the honor awarded for a win, I’d say factor 10, and make it poportional to the run time of the BG. Keep the honor awarded for objectives the same as currently or increase it slightly.
  3. Award this honor for winning to each player who contributed to the battle proportionally to the time he was in the BG, regardless whether he actually is in the BG at the time when it is won. Add a slight decrease which punishes BG hopping. For example, if you played a BG for 25% of its total run time, you gain 15% of the total honor awarded for the win, if you played 50% you gain 45% and up to 100% if you played the whole BG.
  4. Make it possible to give up your spot in a BG to a different player of your choice. In order for this to function the other player has to wait until he’d be able to enter the type of BG you’re in by regular queuing.

Reputation should be awarded in the same manner as honor described above.

Further, there should be changes to the honor system. The new system with static, fixed honor brackets doesn’t work. Even something as simple as BG queue time becomes a huge problem with this system as soon as there is any kind of faction imbalance.

Actually, the changes to the honor system were way too much. The only problem with the old system was the decay or more precisely, the decay at high ranks. The changes from above would alter the dynamics of the system in such an extend that skill is the most important requirement for a high rank, not grind. Thus, the old system with dynamic brackets determined by the players should be restored. I’d also keep the decay but completely change how it works:

If you’re not familiar with the details of the old honor system, you can google “Vanilla WoW honor system”, I can’t include links here for whatever reason.

  1. You should only start to decay after 4 weeks, in all of which you failed to achieve the requirement to keep your rank.
  2. The requirement to keep your current rank should be to just gain weekly contribution points according to the bracket where the regular 20% weekly drop of your total rank points would put you.
  3. If you make less than the requirement, every honor you earn should reduce your decay linearly, from a decay of half a rank at zero honor to no decay at honor enough to satisfy the requirement of point 2.

Example

A player is right at rank 13 with 0% advance, which equals 55000 rank points in total. The weekly decay equals 20% of the total rank points (11000), which mathematically would bring the player to 44000 rank points. This equals rank 10. Now we project the 44000 rank points to the weekly standing, which is the amount of weekly contribution points that would eventually lead to a maximum of 44000 rank points if the player earns this exact same amount of weekly contribution points every single week. It’s somewhere in the rank 10 bracket. If the player earns at least that much contribution points, he keeps the 55000 rank points and thus rank 13.

If the player makes less than the amount described above, the decay only sets in after 4 consecutive weeks and then the decay will be 2500 rank points each week if he earns zero weekly contribution points up to no decay at the amount of weekly contribution points necessary to keep the rank. For contribution points in between, the 2500 points decay are adjusted linearly.

This system would eliminate the problem with the decay in the old system, that in the example above the player would have to earn at least 11000 weekly contribution points to only keep his rank, which means he has to be in the rank 13 bracket every single week only to not decay.

What am i readin here? unbelievable. hide away somewhere. av is fine. rush is fine. games longer than 10 min feel like a waste of time. i just need the ranking gear and i will get it.

There is always people who count out the most optimal way to farm honor or rep.
In SoD they changed honor gain in AB to make people go there instead.
What i would like to see is changes who are alredy there in the future expantions.

  1. AW have a resource cap and when its down to 0 the game ends. It will not stop people from going 6min runs, but it will prevent AW from going on forever.
  2. Change AB to SoD version, but dont give as much honor when you turn in.
  3. If i remember right they even had a time limit in WSG and i can be wrong here but dident they also change so you got a mark for every flag you caped?

I dont think most people have a problem whit a litle bit of fighting, but they dont wana be stuck the BG . So set time limit or recourse cap.

You shouldent be puniched becous you end up in a premade or just whit a caped group that just like dominate.

Big No from my side. If someone wants to play it with resource cap, there are now multiple versions of the game which enable that. I’d like to have the classic game experience, not retail 2.0 which actually already exists, too (Cataclysm).

There is no need to play a BG from start to the end. You are free to leave. I made several suggestions above which still ensure that you gain honor by playing like that. AV was originally planned as an open world PvP zone. As such, there isn’t some kind of “end” at all. It’s an ongoing, huge, epic battle which you can be a part of.

Gear to do what exactly? You clearly don’t want pvp and I’m pretty sure you don’t need super gear and weapns to gank low level players in STV

What exactly do you need that gear for? obviously not pvp

They just want to flex in Orgrimmar or Stormwind after getting r14 without doing any pvp :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

Gear to pvp? Once I got my honor done for the week, I just pvp midfield in AV. Why are you asking questions and then fill in the answer for me in the next post? It’s OK if you want to play suboptimal, but not everyone likes to play this way.

You can stay rank 6 forever for the sake of fun though if thats what you desire.

Edit; I pve too and its the best gear in bwl aswell. (Weapons)

That’s exactly why you should design the (honor) system in a way that supports playing the game and not do it the other way around, set up a system and then change the game so that it fits into the system.

I made several suggestions above how to address these issues. I think we should all be able to agree that AV was never meant to be played the way it is now.
Otherwise, why are there so much things implemented in it that you even don’t see anymore nowadays? You’ve got lots of quests and items you can hand in to upgrade the NPC guards. I think many players today have never seen or even don’t know about the wolf and ram riders, ground infantry and aerial assault units or the faction lords Lokholar and Ivus. These things are what made this BG so much fun and some of my best memories of the game in 2005/2006.

Don’t get me wrong, I love AV and I love to summon the icelord and just pvp away. But first I just wanna get the weekly honor cap. It is what it is.

And these two things shouldn’t be in conflict with each other. That’s exactly the point which my suggestions address.

If you’re talking about anniversary… it’s the classic version. It’s how it’s supposed to be…
I know, it isn’t great. But they shouldn’t change it for anniversary.
The changes to classic are happening in the SoD version.

You clearly must not have been around playing this game when it was released in 2005 for Europe. And no, it’s definitely not “how it’s supposed to be” when there is content in the game which you can’t even see anymore because of the way it’s played nowadays.

Don’t ask 2025 Blizzard to change things in classic. That’s like asking a 20 year non binary chick to improve a Van Gogh.

What do i need with gear in this game? Let me think. Oh right this game is about getting gear. Thats the whole point. That was the dumbest question for a long time grats

The most fun it´s i see players from PvE servers actually PvPing try do something slow the horde (yes it´s works if do right)… And it´s the players from PvP Servers do PvE (rush)… Quite comic imo…

Drug addicts end up not enjoying taking drugs. It is a short feeling of relief, and they are immediately after the next one.

Under this state, drug addicts are willing to pay as much as they need to get to the next one, think RMT / bots / gold buying.

Shortened phase releases increase the urgency for those dopamine hits, since everything is in a stressful rush, which favors RMT and overall degeneracy.

Couple all this with quarterly reports by Blizzard and the need to be “profitable”.

Enjoyment has long, LONG been gone from the equation. This is an operation, simple as.

The fast games were good for rep.

You can see now more and more games taking longer time. Ive had 4 or 5 games these last two days that were over 60 minutes long. Actually i dont mind them since they tend to give alot of honor. At least for me that like to defend chokepoints and kill players passing by solo, you can stack up alot of honor.

I dont know, but if you enjoy solo pvp and need to farm honor … longer AV´s is the best.

People want to cap rep and honor and go do something else

Idk. Looting dead Players or NPC and give them back are also good for rep.
Yesterday, some dudes were unhappy in bg chat (calling others nobrain, the usual stuff) if it was not pure rush and i’m pretty sure these guys are already rep exalted.
They couldn’t even realize that some ppl juste want to try to win in an other way than riding faster than the opposite faction or just like to…pvp. I really don’t know what those guys are LF in the game…
