Basically.
Rastakhan is likeable because he is flawed. His is a refreshment from the ever present godlike creatures that can never make a mistake.

Because he is an established known character with tangible flaws and growth room, whereas Talanji seems to be marketed so far as yet another prodigy child wise beyond her years that uses a standard heroine template as her defining personality.
Don’t get me wrong, I like her. But Rastakhan was way more interesting. Talanji is shaping up to be a troll version of a much common character trope. The one guys like Anduin, Yrel in WoD, etc, follow.
Talanji is great. She isn’t shoen as perfect. She is shown as a good leader of her people, which protect the weak. Rastakhan was just meh…
Tell me one situation where Talanji made a mistake.
Sinking our ships with Dino magic, which cost her, her daddy.
I just didn’t enjoy Rastakhans stubborn cocky in denial attitude. I mean I like his character but that is basically why I prefer Talanji. She was actually productive and got stuff done rather than sitting on a golden throne thinking she was all it for hundreds of years.
She joined the Horde not the Alliance
I know what you mean about that ‘Child Prodigy’ trope (Jaina Grumbles) but do we actually know how old Talanji is? I mean sure, she is Rastakhan’s daughter, but he is ancient, Talanji could be in her 60’s for all we know (I could be entirely wrong, if there is quest text stating otherwise, I’m just hypothesising)
She can go to Orgrimmar orphanage to contemplate about her poor life decisions. Sylvanas has warmed up to her too, I sense a touching story,
Wrong.
No Trolls allowed
Jaina is hardly a child O.o
Well, I am of opinion that elves and trolls shouldn’t be in the same faction. But that’s how things are.
She references being a little girl when Vol’jin refused Zul, so she is really young.
Even if she’s was 60 she would only be 20+ years older than Jaina and still lacking the massive amounts of development Jaina has had since WC3. I agree Jaina is too OP perhaps, but Jaina being at least powerful does make sense
Edit - the only reason why people like Jaina and Talanji are decorated as overly OP with “awesome omg wow” powers in cinematic etc is because of the current rule of cool philosophy blizzard have atm.
I liked his attitude kinda like King Jaffar from “Going to America” movie or king Julien xD
He isn’t totally of denial as his initial speech shows but majority of his shortsigntess could be blamed on trusting Zul and while we and Vol’Jin knew Zul is a bad guy, Rastakhan never saw him like that. Zul never gave him a reason to not trust him.
But I digress.
I agree with Zarao he had a lot of room for improvement to fix his mistakes, and while I disagree that Talanji is generic princess heroine I also feel her ascension came too soon.
I suppose you’re right, but again doesn’t negate the fact that he still sit on a golden throne all happy and done nothing about it all.
His daughter was being more of a leader/ruler than he was. Protecting Zandalars people while he was more than okay with brushing the issues off as not that big of a deal which isn’t only selfish but puts his people in danger
Well, even if we consider her some ‘young adult’ kind of character, I still used the Child Prodigy term encompassing those sort of characters.
I was mainly talking about the Modern Disney Princess kind of trope, combined with the Will Weaton/Weasley Crusher phenomenon and the traits a whole slew of characters from Naruto and Dragon Ball (to name a few) have.
In short, the ‘deadly’ combo of sheltered Disney princess capable of doing whatever she sets her mind on, better than anyone else, despite her relatively young age.
But his own very daughter explained that he wasn’t like that all the time, that he was iron fist but just one and this is why Zandalari were very loyal to him.
I believe that Zul is to blame that he became so stagnant.
Kinda like in Lord of the Rings you had the King of Rohan and Wormtongue.
I like Talanji a lot and I also think she will be great leader, but I feel something more could’ve been done with father/daughter relationship which is now my own personal project I’m working atm.
From now on Rastakhan shall be known as Rastakhan King. I will do the same thing for Greymane. Greymane King has a ring to it.
Cheers for that, I must have missed that one, so yes, in that case she is fitting that trope.
Whilst Araphant helpfully shows us that we have a rough idea of her age, and that she is really young, I don’t buy that. Just because we see what a character in her mid 30’s has done since WC3, doesn’t mean an older character necessarily is not more skilled just because we haven’t seen them before…
Although as she is apparently younger, the point is kind of moot.
Well, there’s two things there.
a) The Trolls currently in the Horde are Darkspear, who have never actually warred on the Elves, or vice versa. Darkspear are physically distinct from say, Amani, and have never had any conflict with Elves, being an offshoot of the Gurubashi, so there is no real ancestral hatred there…
b) That’s going by modern Fantasy settings, Tolkein, Dungeons and Dragons and such, in older mythologies things like Elves and Trolls were generally lumped together, Otherworldly creatures that you did not want to mess with. The Blood Elves to me are more like your Aos Side, Tuatha de Danaan and Alfar from Norse Legends. Trolls work with them just fine.
Well, in the present where the player is concerned and involved with him he is failing as a leader, and that’s is directly portrayed to the Horde and the player tbh so I believe it was intentional. Like I say all of this happened pretty much to have rastakhan die and Be replaced by Talanji.
Yes him failing as a leader CURRENTLY may not be all his fault at all, but he still sits back while talanji is doing what realistically is her fathers job.
