How is it working when they put people like the clip I linked at close to master? That’s like, bronze tier level of play. That’s 3 ranks off.
It’s called the law of numbers, dear. When you are playing 1500 hours, 150 of those hours you will get teammates who vary in rating significantly. And 50 of those hours you will keep seeing people who are outright morons or behave like ones because that’s their bad day and they are playing drunk or because their cat got fire. That’s just how numbers work. No, this doesn’t mean that ratings are broken.
But it does. Players would be able to compose more balanced teams than blizzard’s matchmaking system because unlike a matchmaking system that uses an algorithm, players would actually be able to tell how good someone is from watching them play.
No on both counts. It doesn’t mean that ratings don’t work and players compose much less balanced teams on average. Live and learn.
My guess is you haven’t even played OW and have no clue what you’re seeing if you think the system is working when a guy like that gets close to master. In chess you wouldn’t be able to get that high if you played as bad as that guy did, you’d be bottom tier. Chess has a working ELO system because it’s 1v1. You can’t get carried to a win by someone else making big plays, unlike in OW.
I didn’t play OW, but I played LoL and HotS and many other games with such systems. What’s more important is that I know how they work and what goes into designing them. What you are seeing as evidence that “the system doesn’t work” is a typical newbie cry. Sometimes there are genuine flaws but in order to detect them you need tables of numbers, not a couple of videos. “It’s clear this shouldn’t be happening” is always wrong, with high enough player count / play hours everything will happen, if not on your screen than on the screen of someone else who will then post this as a “proof” that “the system is not working”. This doesn’t mean that the system is not working at all.
So why are you commenting on it and say the system works when a guy like that gets close to master?
YES, but in the games you’ve listed you can measure individual performance much more easily.
The regular
Won against someone with higher rating than your own = gain more point
Lost against someone with lower rating than your own = lose more points
Or the individual performance based
Had good weapon accuracy = extra points
More headshots = extra points
Had good creep score = extra points
And the very reason you can measure individual performance much more easily in PvP games is because you are competing against other PLAYERS and the have different RATING. And if you win against higher rated players your MMR goes up, and your next games will match your with even higher rated players and if you beat them, your rating goes up faster.
You can’t measure this in M+ because the scaling is hard coded, so your claim that your magical system would give players score much faster than rio falls appart, because you’d have to play level by level, unless you give people more point for individual performance which you CAN’T MEASURE PROPERLY in this game anway.
Not to mention differently balanced classes, specs and even the dungeons between themselves, some are so much easier to do than others…
Because you newbie cry is something common to all automated matchmaking systems and is wrong in all of them.
“newbie”? Lmao.
Clearly working. GM smurf, smurfing in gold and he gets 3 rating for a win. Functional system. Totally.
Did you play a part in designing a rating system or have you been given some special insight into one? From what you’re saying in here, you don’t really have an idea why those system somewhat work in the games they are in.
I’ve got an account in OW that got screwed over when they introduced role queue, the MMR on it got reset or something for some reason, they brought competitive down to fix the problems but those who played before the problems got fixed got screwed over. Now it gets like 3-4 per win and loses like 30 points per loss, can’t drag it out of gold/plat due to the low rating gain per win. 10 wins and it takes 1 game for me to lose all the rating gained. Meanwhile, on my other account - close to master. “functional matchmaking rating”. I’ve got a positive win rate on that account, like 60% and have gone down in rating lol.
I had the same issue. On my main account I could barely stay in plat, but seeing that there’s an unjustified skill gap between me and the players I’m being matched with, I bought another account, fairly easily got it to 3.1k SR within a few weeks and I’m easily hovering at the high plat, low diamond level. Years later, my main account is still cursed and I still dip into gold from time to time.
Yet you totally disregarded my earlier post to answer some of my questions regarding your ‘‘matchmaking system’’ working for WoW.
The following issues:
- How do you start?, do you start at m+2 but with somesort of requirements before you can hop into the queue (like the ilvl currently on HC dungeons)
- How will it affect the huge lack of tanks / healers currently?
- If my rating is X how will i be matched and to whom?
- How will i be able to experience all the dungeons on key level i want? Overall it ends up being ‘‘random’’ and you could end up with 100 runs and still miss out 1 of the dungeons
- What happens if my rating of 1000 which is enough for a group running a +12 freehold but my rating is based on +12s but i dont have Freehold +12 XP?
- What happens if i leave the group or if i get kicked? Do we get a deserter buff, do you lose rating, what happens?
- How does it fix issues we see now? I.e. as mentioned by people: dps with 2200 score not doing DPS for a 475 / 2200 score player.
- What happens if i queue up with my 1000 rating as dps even tho i managed to get that rating as tank? But i might have 0 clue about dpsing on my class
And i can go on, but i hope you get the point.
Too many flaws with your ‘‘so called’’ i know it all about matchmaking and WoW should add one debate.
Please, try to get some answers and how the matchmaking can be functional.
I’d never use it because of how random the skill level would be on people and I mainly heal atm.
I’d also expect behaviour like this to increase if there was matchmaking for m+:
Well, I’ve pretty much given up trying to play the game lately my time schedule just doesnt work with it when I originally returned to WoW I had not done all dungeons and because I joined late I couldnt find the help to get all dungeons done.
Although I have not done them I want to thank @Kierkegard for becoming a friend and offering to help me out.
<3
Peace WoW Community.
But I think it’s quite possibly Good bye from myself.
The answer to this will be “it’s outside the scope of the thread”, “I’m too tired to explain” or “I know that because it works in other games, it will work in M+ and that’s absolutely undisputable”
He is already backtracking,
I found said quote:
Already right there and then, he was done in this whole discussion in my eyes.
Wont stick, most used tool for M+ since its introduction in Legion.
After we scoured wow progress for a list of people’s M+ ‘‘scores’’
Its not nice calling someone that in party chat!
Bad Elahri
That was not me. The russian guy died on trash and didn’t release instantly and the tank said that, lol.
