Hey!
I’ve been playing classic a little bit since it came out. I started cataclysm so I didn’t play vanilla. I don’t have any character at 60 yet becasue I have alot of other stuff to do. But I wonder whats the best overall class.
i don’t have so much time to play each day because of school and work.
I want to do everything in the game so I want a class thats good for everything pvp and pve.
I don’t really care about how long it takes to level but I don’t want a heavily gear dependent class becasue as I said before I can’t play so long each day.
What class to you thinks fit my description?

Well a mage can do everything except tank, heal and stealth… And tame beasts.

Hunter.
You’re a one man mini group with your pet tanking.
And the class isn’t so gear dependent either.

Warrior PvE,
Mage large scale pvp,
Warlock smaller scale pvp and really good in pve later on.
Mage or a healer is probably your best bet in not being dependent on gear and they can get some decent gear from ZG and AQ

I wouldn’t play any other class as a main.
But I do know what we can’t do that mages can. We can’t travel faster than other classes. We can’t help other classes get to far away places either. We can’t AoE farm. Our resources aren’t free.

I wonder why anyone have not yet mentioned druid.
Jack of all trades, can tank, heal and dps all dungeon.
Not many druids there.
Good utility. Stealth. ,“Free” pseudo-mount ( 30 lvl ).

Most classes are terrible in classic, but…
Mage = Gear dependent.
Healers = Gear dependent.
I think most classes are gear dependent, but somebody said hunter isn’t very gear dependent… so I’m gonna go with hunter might be best for you then? xD.
I’ve never seen such a vague description of what you want. There is no overall best class. There are great classes at certain things but since you don’t say what you want no one can recommend a class, or even a role.
So DPS, Healer or Tank? A viable second spec, if so which role? Horde or Alliance? Do you want ranged or melee? These are basic questions to answer before anyone can even start making recommendations.

Mage is not gear dependant
Mage… Top tier PvE DPS from start to finish, great AOE/farm potential, excellent mobility/control toolset for PvP.
You’ll just have to be better than average to stand out in the sea of them.
Wouldn’t say mage is top tier DPS 
So what’s your tier list.
In warcraftlogs in my server at least atm . It’s mostly warrior and rogue with possible hunters and mage as nr 3 . I could be wrong but anyway that’s what I’ve seen. Def warrior and rogue tho
Alright so you’re using highest performing players as your measurement, exclusively? I’d say there’s a bit more to it.
I know there’s alot more to those log results than just class too.
Hunters aren’t top tier man, best class for sure but…
I know hunters aren’t top tier but warrior and rogue are Def up there. Hunter is quite good tho when it comes to gear requirement . Good damage without needing insane gear.
