I dont understand botters. What good does that wealth do, if you got it via cheating

I don’t think they really care if it’s cheating. People have done scummier things than this to earn money.

In all seriousness though, fly hacking and auto-gather bots are ruining normal player’s experiences. Blizzard is almost forcing us to spend real money to buy gold being as we can’t farm the resources we need ourself in a normal way.

Do a /who and look in Startholm. Isn’t it weird that most of the mages/druids/priests leave the guild for that dungeon in particular? And the same for rogues in BRM?
Dude, we know for a fact that bots are running priest/druid/magex3 in Startholm, we know for a fact that rogue bots are running BRM. You can see the guildless rogues farming herbs and grinding mobs. It can be any class and they are sometimes in guilds, but it’s usually guildless rogues. They are easiest to level as bots. Not all guildless players are bots, but most are in these areas. And there are to many to be acceptable.

We don’t agree on much but on this we agree on an atomic level. They have completely dropped the ball in anticipating the extent of exploiting going around. You don’t need a ban wave, you need a flood of biblical proportions where gold buyers accounts are deleted.
You giving them an ultimatium like they give a damn about your single sub is quite frankly hilarious but to address the rest of your point bots aren’t something than can just be fixed whenever its spotted as it takes time. We are not coders/devs so to assume its as simple as flipping a switch shows your naivety towards how games are made and updated.
No one is happy about bots but to try and use your sub as some sort of power play to make them suddenly jump into action wont do a damn thing and honestly you need to reassess how you think your percieved by a company who’s number 1 goal is to make money above all else.
To end this little post i’ll say this…
You mean nothing to Blizzard and nor should you and bots will happen in every game so suck it up kiddo.

Try to get this into your head. Not on free to play private Vanilla servers. Free private servers had MUCH better cheat and bot detection and actual GMs doing actual GM work. I am comparing this official games on a modern client from a multiobillion dollar company with a handful of people running a free private server. And this company is doing a MUCH MUUUUUCH worse job with bots.
I mean I can understand forum trolls and Straw Mans and stupid people and ignorant people, but you are bring all that to a new level by defending this extraordinary situation.

Bots were rampant from BGs to gold farmers and the actual GM’s as you put it were selling gold on the side most of the time and that isn’t some theory it was proven on multiple cases.
Your fix your bots or I quit is the ultimatium I spoke of and again I point out that Blizzard doesn’t give a damn about a customer throwing their toys out of the pram over bots.
I am not defending them I putting into a real perspective of an adult who isn’t blind to how companies run things.
If you cant even understand yourself how you phrase things IE the ultimatium that you cant see yet you said none the less I am not gonna waste my time with you.

What is your goal here right now? This thread is about bots right here and now in Classic. Do you have anything constructive to add? We can have a debate about private servers morality and laws and stuff but it’s dangerous waters on a forum that will ban you for promoting it in any way.
Blizzard’s tactic:
- Let these bots to farm some amount of money enough to buy a new subscription;
- Ban wave;
- New subscriptions are bought to make new bots = more money for Blizzard;
- Repeat.
Bots are beneficial to Blizzard. This is not a big mystery…

What rules was I breaking that is in any way comparable with botting in Classic? Note that I wasn’t a customer at that time, didn’t have an active Blizzard account and used my own software that I bought and paid for that Blizzard refused to let me use. You can make a legal argument ofc based on copyright law (I wasn’t breaking any law by the way) but what rules do you believe I was breaking when I wasn’t an end user? In the PAST. And how is that in any way related to the PRESENT and botting?

They did, at least the ones where the staff wasn’t corrupt to the core.
90% of the private servers now and then were corrupt in some fashion. People who claimed to have experienced private servers only ever played Kronos/Nostalrius and have no idea what or how the average private server was ran. They were all buggy bot filled messes with half coded bosses and numerous quests that were missing or broken and abilities that either didnt work or were OP due to being coded incorrectly. Flying / Gold farming bots / BG bots were everywhere.
Yes this will sound like a flex of some sort but I was in the private server scene from the early cata onwards so I have absolutely experienced everything bad and good.
So when OP tries to tell us that private servers had better bot detection I laugh out loud knowing full well that isnt the case.
