Damn, that’s actually a thing someone wrote a book about?
Yeah, it summarizes my point very well. I came up with that because people kept bringing forth the argument IRL to me that “You don’t wanna stay for long in 1 job? Don’t you wanna get promoted maybe?” Hell no I don’t wanna get promoted. That means I am good at what I do, not good at what I might do.
Danuser needs to go and the sooner we’re done with this morally grey “zooming out” 4D titan++ cosmic war nonsense the better.
The whole cosmic war arc is just complete garbage and has singlehandedly killed all my enthusiasm for the lore. It just feels like all the stakes are gone and nothing matters. Everything is now just so abstract and unrelatable.
You don’t need to “zoom out” and introduce bigger and badder threats to keep a story interesting. It just screams narrative incompetence and lack of nuance.
There needs to be some sense of mystery and intrigue. Forces like the light, void, fel the afterlife etc should have been left somewhat ambiguous and up for speculation. Once you strip a fictional universe of all sense of mystery it’s game over.
A story about faceless blobs of “power” that we can’t even comprehend or relate to at all like the light and the void wanting to consume the universe “just because” is simply not interesting. It’s crap.
I just want to go back to a character driven, relatable story with relatable characters
Smacked the nail on the head so hard the wall the nail is being put into just exploded and now the cold air of reality is blowing in and our inevitable deaths from exposure are all but guaranteed.
Sure, if he means “brilliant in being terrible”, I agree.
If he means “brilliant” in terms of writing… Well… Let’s just say it’s not a good sign that he is in the position of the lead story writer of Blizzard.
It speaks lenghts that every Anduin X Sylvanas romance fan fiction gives these characters more personality than what professional writers could achieve in many years.
Sure, dunking on the writing team is easy, no doubt. But when fans start to outclass “professionals”, then it’s starting to become ridicilous. I guess at this point they don’t even care anymore since money rolls in anyways, no matter what they write. So really, who can blame them…
We hit that point the moment WoD became a thing honestly. I don’t understand the flak MoP got, outside of the Varian-wins-the-day scenarios, the story was solid, the “worldbuilding” was spot on from MoP and a step up from Cataclysm’s haphazard mess and personally exploring Pandaria was -fun- over themepark simulator expansions that came after.
That is exactly the point, corporate hacks hiring any writer that they can ensure writes some half-baked slurry that works. Not to mention writers that have incredibly sketchy views plastered over their social media.
What strikes me more than anything is that characters like Bwonsamdi and Sire Denathrius weren’t supposed to have much prominence in the story, they just ended up that way when the writers realized that they had something good on their hands.
As though they’re just stumbling into things instead of writing good characters deliberately.
