I know the title sounds provocative, but read, and you’ll find that you actually agree with me in the end.
There is no other game like World of Warcraft.
Literally none, not a single one. We have a completely unique game here, and its depth, its complexity are a big part of what makes it unique.
Why would anyone want to make this game easier?
Just leave, and play an easier game - there are thousands out there. You can play Guild Wars with 12 hotkeys if that’s your thing.
Your class is too complex? Then pick up a new build with more passive abilities.
You don’t need to min-max, you’re a casual player anyway, why does it matter? You’re not going for Mythic world first, and you’re not a Gladiator level player either - so just play with worse talents because really, you’re not doing anything challenging in the first place, so it doesn’t matter that you’re losing a tiny bit of damage here and there.
Still too many buttons? Then pick up a Fury Warrior or a BM Hunter. The game already has enough options for you to play something easy and accessible. You don’t need to make every class easy, bland and one dimensional like we’re in Legion or something.
This game is hard. That’s a good thing.
Either stick to casual content or learn to play and get good, but don’t start asking to make the game easier.
This is how you will kill your game.
You want people to continuously enter your game to combat your player attrition, that means you will need to cater to different players, and making the game attractive for them.
If you don’t, you’re gradually going to bleed players till there’s nobody left.
I expected a better bait post from someone who advocated not so long ago to become a game director.
Which is why the game already has easy specs, like those I mentioned earlier.
Direct new players towards these specializations.
Besides, like you said: you need to cater to different players, which includes players who seek depth and complexity, like myself. I quit the game completely in BFA when Blizzard took the pruning too far.
The game doesn’t need to “become easier” - it needs to have easy things for casual players, and adequately challenging things for the most dedicated among us.
“Not so long ago”?
It was 5 years ago, and the fine people of the WoW forums agreed with nearly all of my ideas: Lead game designer Rompuche
I could single-handedly save this game if I were in charge for a year.
You are low level paladin… so what is point of this crying post?
And you think this game is hard? No, its not, it is only too distractid spells, effects and overbuffed classes… problem is, classes are designed for M nonsense.
The game has been slowly recovering from Legion’s ability pruning every expansion*.
We’re not there yet though. There’s still plenty more depth to be added before the game can return to its former glory.
The ONE game mode, mythic raiding can be hard, sure, otherwise where is the hard game you speak of?
If you count M+ PuG as hard then I guess there’s that.
And this needs to go. This isn’t complex, this is just frustrating and annoying. It also makes every class weaker outside of those “stars aligning” moments. It’s just tedious.
Before Legion though, Rogues needed to position themselves behind their target to use Backstab. In Legion, this was removed, and Shadowstrike now teleported the Rogue automatically behind their target.
Meanwhile, Mistweaver Monks lost both Chi as a ressource system (and all the mechanics that came with it) as well as being a healer that swaps between two stances to use offensive/healing abilities. This is all gone now.
No it can’t. It’s PvE and PvE is easy.
Only arena is difficult.
Addons are used in PvE as well, they yell at you so you know when the next mechanic is coming up.
Besides, “having” these addons is one thing, being able to track all the cooldowns of 6 players at the same time while trying to perform an optimal rotation, kick major spells, position yourself properly to be in LOS of your healer while chasing the enemy target etc. requires more skill and finesse than you seem to realize.
I am serious.
PvE content is basically the tutorial.
I want addons gone though?
I’m using the bare minimum right now: BigDebuff (to increase the size of major debuffs on my team’s frames), OmniBar and Ability Team Tracker. These should all be part of Blizzard’s base UI.
I don’t use anything else.
