Cannot create new character (Earthen)

Character creation constantly times out and then I can’t even load in my regular character list anymore. I am thus forced to close the game using Alt+F4 and then try again. I can log in to my existing characters as far as I can tell, but creating the newly unlocked Earthen is just not working. I added screenshots to illustrate.

EDIT: I have tried to delete a couple of older low level alts to make room for the new character, but that didn’t help either. This is really starting to piss me off.

EDIT2: I have now tested creating new characters of the same class as the one I want (Paladin) and that works fine for other races. It does not work for Earthen no matter what I do.

EDIT3: This seems to be a realm related issue. I created a Earthen Paladin (the one I want) on a different realm (Sylvanas) and that worked immediately. This leads me to believe that the problem is with specific realms. For me it’s Stormscale.

Based on what others have told me these are the affected realms:

  • Stormscale
  • Antonidas
  • Outland
  • Argent Dawn
  • Magtheridon

EDIT4: Race changing seems to work on affected realms, which narrows it down to newly created characters only.

Can confirm that behaviour.
Can not create an earthen paladin also.

I have been getting this error message every time I try to create a new (first) Earthen character. When I click Finish it hangs for a long time and then says “Character creation timed out.” and then if I click Finish again it just immediately says “Error creating character”. And if I go back to my characters screen it gets stuck on “Retrieving character list” and I have to alt+f4 close and reopen the game. I am on Magtheridon realm.

Same issue here on Ravenholdt EU. Trying to create an earthen Shaman. Can create any other race/class, except Earthen.

EDIT: Can create an Earthen Warrior on my realm now. But still can’t make the Shaman.

Creator of that thread did some experiements. It seems to be class and realm related.

Interesting. I’ve been trying to create an Earthen paladin on Eonar with no success, but I can did create a warlock. Maybe this is tied more to class than realm?

Edit: I did manage to create an Earthen paladin on another realm. (Blade’s Edge)

Also trying to make an Earthen Shaman and failing… Since Shaman and Paladin seem to be most effected is to do with the specific class assets?

Same on Dragonmaw… however, I tried creating a new character with a different name, even though the original character name had the green tick to suggest it was available… and it worked. so could be something to do with the name not being available even though it says it is.

I created my paladin with a different name.

Sylvanas EU
Earthen Rogue.

Haven’t tried using another name, yet, but this sounds like a very plausible explanation.

EDIT: Tried another name even though the first one did have the green tick. With a new name it worked immediately.

Can also confirm that using a different name works. Just a pity because the first name I used is now broken :frowning: Even if I try make a non-earthen with that name, it freezes up the game and times out.

I was able to create my Earthen paladin by choosing a different name. Even though my preferred name had a green tick it was obviously taken already.
