Can't decide which region to play classic in

Basically I can’t decide which region I want to play WOW classic on. I’m from and live in the EU so logically you would think I would choose an EU server, which I have done in fact with my pre-existing EU account for when I played retail WOW. However I’ve also made an account and played on the US streamer server Faerlina. Now I understand a lot of people avoid this server because of the streamers, however I think the community and massive PVP events are great. It’s not something you’ll find on any EU server on the same scale. Plus the ping is 100% playable on the US server, I feel no difference between EU and US in terms of latency. So you might think why not just choose the US server then?

There are a few problems you see, the US server is obviously on US east coast time meaning they’re 5 hours behind my time. This means if they have an evening raid of say 6pm their (server) time. That means that’s an 11pm start time for me with an end time of 3 – 4am the next day which is not viable. However my guild is working on getting an EU time friendly raid that would start at 1pm server time (6pm for me) which is great, but there is no guarantee that this will happen as the Europeans are a minority on the US server. So EU friendly raid times are a concern. The next issue is that I have to pay an additional WOW subscription to play on the US server, so that means If I ever want to play retail WOW on my EU account I have to either pay for both US and EU or keep switching between the two regions which is tedious. Or I could make new retail characters on a US server but then possibly face the same issues with the raid times.

The only issue with the classic EU servers is that they simply don’t have the same scale of community and large scale PVP events that the US streamer server does. And that sure does add a lot to the fun of the game for me, not that the European servers are bad of course, this is a personal preference thing.

Currently I’ve just been levelling up one character on the US Faerlina server and another on the EU Shazzrah server as I can’t make a decision, it’s driving me mad frankly, I can’t decide which I want to play. Playing on the EU server has more advantages; guaranteed EU raid times and the same account as my retail characters meaning only one subscription. But the US server is very tempting with the streamer communities, which I’ve had a great experience with so far and have got myself into a good position into a streamers guild which will be lost If I don’t play regularly.

Maybe some of you could share your opinions on if you were in my position, would you go to the US classic streamer server for the streamer community advantages or would you stick with an EU classic server which is the same account as your existing EU retail characters.

I’ve only ever had this issue on this game, every other game I’ve played you can change servers and regions at will, you’re not locked down to one region or server.

Many thanks.

If you have the money do it, if you don’t then don’t do it.

Eu server gehennas has bigger pvp events and better players

So your problem is raid times, but the only real reason u wanna go to US as u stated, are PVP events on streamers server, and now, do you think they make them EU time zone friendly? U will miss them because of time just as much as u will miss raids

You’ll have issues with latency I would imagine

I have two accounts in both regions. Latency for America constantly green (140ms), no issues at all. Many guilds also have european or daytime raid groups. 10am there means 6 pm in UK which is perfect. You can find MC pugs on discord

Most streamers won’t stay that long on that server, they will go back to retail when a new major patch or expansion comes out or they would go to a different game later on.

Nope if you read my post you’ll see I don’t.

Your main argument for choosing US is the “streamer community”, the lowest hanging fruit that tempts teenagers or NEETs into wasting their time on watching essentially pointless crap.

You call that a community. I get that. People living in rubbish dumps can form a community, too. It can even be lively. Lots of rodents. Insects, some of them furry, some not. Cheer and whoop-whoop when the police (viewers) ride by. I guess it must feel special. The mother’s milk, the unsanitised odour of bliss; the mountain-high aroma of sweat endorsed by likes and subscribes.

Or you could play in EU servers without any of that pretentious crap and go to sleep when you actually need to go to sleep. Just saying.

haha someone has complexes

Well you say that but i’ve found the community very nice to be honest, it seems to me a lot of people on here just dislike streamers for no real reason. I’m not a child that thinks they’re going to be in a streamers group, that’s not what i’m after really, and i’d certainly never subscribe and waste my money or god forbid give them gold. But there is an element of fun being part of a streamers event while watching on Twitch, i get not everyone cares for that but a lot do. To me it’s a valid reason. But the problems are that it’s not ideal long term which is why i’m so undecided

If it’s a compelling part of the game for you then good for you. That guys post is funny though

I don’t know why you’d want to restrict yourself to US times though, i would think in the long run you’d be better off in the EU - but, hey, I don’t advise asking for a vote on the matter.

Are there not european streamers you can follow if that’s your thing? Or is it specific streamers who you follow who are american?

I would think you are wrong that the “US servers are bigger” given that they have the same pop cap and both regions are layered.

What is most important for you. PVP events or raiding? If it’s the PVP events staay on the US server, if raiding is most important to you, change to a EU server. Sometimes you can’t have both.

Tbh if you are not playing on gehennas, you are dodging

Yeah the two streamers i watch are american, and i might not have to play raids at US times if an early one can be formed. But it’s not guranteed so it’s a bit of a risk. And I don’t mean bigger in terms of size I mean you won’t get as large of a number of people taking part in an event at the same time. One streamer alone has like 10 full guilds under his banner.

We get it, everyone in gehennas is 3000 rated blizzcon tournament players, no need to remind us.

Hey man. So I actually have experience in this as I am also from EU but have played on US Retail and Classic as most of my friends are American but I ran into same issues as you (monetary and time zone differences mainly).

Without trying to write you a novel. I have gone back and forth on EU and US a few times starting towards the end of Legion, I have also played Classic on both EU and US. Like you, I also rolled on Faerlina on US for the same reasons, so I totally understand your frustrations.

In regards to what to do about it, at the end of the day it’s up to you. Here’s my advice…if you can deal with the cons of playing on the US from EU. You should do it if that’s what you want. Myself, I couldn’t and I went back to EU. Here are the cons that always made it a pain for me playing US from EU:

Monetary - Like you said, the subscriptions are totally separate (which is so stupid btw, Blizzard need to change/fix this). So you have to pay twice. if you want EU and US. It’s also more expensive on the US side (at least for my currency) as it converts the $14.99 to my local currency and it ends up actually being higher than an EU sub with the conversion.

Timezone - self explanatory. If you wanna raid, you basically either find an EU based guild (which is rare) or you stay up late or get up early. This also made it really hard to even play with my American friends and I ended up never playing with them because of it.

Shop issues - If you ever buy anything from the shop (mounts, pets, collectors editions etc) None of that shares. So you have to pay for the US version of them in the US shop and you end up having the money conversion issue I mentioned early so it ends up being more expensive for anything. It’s always cheaper for me to buy from the EU store in my currency rather than convert from dollars.

Those were my core 3 issues. I actually prefer/preferred playing on my US account in terms of fun/gameplay. I was enjoying starting over on retail and Faerlina is a tonne of fun on Classic but I couldn’t get over those 3 core issues above. There are times I get the “urge” to go back to the US side, but those 3 issues usually put me off enough. Sometimes I go back, but I usually end up back on EU as those issues won’t go away, unless Blizzard changes stuff on their end which I’ve really wanted for a long time now. Games like Overwatch and Hearthstone just allow you to switch on the fly. WoW is so archaic in this aspect.

Whether those issues effect you is totally up to you. All I can do is offer you my experiences. Hopefully it helped at least a bit.

Also, if you want the closest thing to Faerlina on EU, it’s probably Gehennas as that’s where APES is but I can’t speak fully for that as I’ve never played there.

Kind of depends on you I’m canadian and playing in mograine.

The amount of wtf responses I get is amusing at times.

I would worry more about your streamers leaving server making half of population leave with them, but idk what streamers are there so hard to guess, if you think that it will not happen then I would stay in USA server as it clearly is what you are looking for, also you can prob change your gameplay hours in weekends to get some raids in.

I would worry more about playing with people that follow streamers to the cancer that is a streamer server
