Changes to Purchasable Game Time Options for the British Pound (GBP)

As part of our regular process, we conduct reviews on the available services in all currencies. Based on this, we have decided to alter the available Game Time options for the British Pound (GBP) in the Blizzard Shop. As of today, the Game Time options of 30, 90, and 180 days have been removed and Game Time is only available as a purchase of 60 Days.

New Game Time Option GBP
60 Days Game Time £19.98

Please note that currently, the GBP options and pricing for the purchase of both WoW subscriptions and WoW Tokens will remain unaffected. Also, any Game Time that has already been purchased for an account will not be affected by this.

We appreciate that players choose to spend their time with World of Warcraft, and we are committed to ensuring the game continues to provide British players with great entertainment value.

If you would like to review your World of Warcraft Game Time and payment method, you can do so through Blizzard Account Management at any time.

I can understand removing 90 and 180 days, but why on earth force people to buy 60 days as the only option? This will put a lot of players in a situation where they can’t play anymore.

Here we go.

But… why?
Most people would probably choose 30 days instead of the other options simply because they would rather have the option to pay per month without having to constantly sub and cancel, rinse and repeat.

so what does this mean for the 6 month sub offers that have been going on for the past few years?

But why ??

This is game time. So far as I can see, the renewable sub is still 1, 3 or 6 months.

Really? What’s the point? Is that really going to encourage people to step back into the game?

Haha, my post probably caused them to react about the confusion of paying for 180 days of gametime versus subbing and not getting the transmog/mount offer included with the gametime.

Feelspowerfulman, thanks Blizzard and sorry for the misunderstaning, Gametime is the only value for the sweat off my back. btw I’ll never buy that transmog/mount separately, peace!

Don’t understand this change at all, will probably lead to me being unable to play the game, why is the 30 day option being removed?

Exactly. Given my financial situation, I buy game time ONLY if I have enough spare cash after bills are paid each month. Which more often than not, I could afford £9.99 a month. But I certainly can’t afford £19.99 / two months. I know it works out to the same cost, but the £9.99 would most likely get spent instead of saved.

I cannot take the risk of committing to a subscription and forgetting to cancel it, leaving me at risk of not being able to pay the monthly bills.

Bro, lvl a rogue/druid to 60. Pick up mining/herbalism. Go to the maw & just stealth, don’t kill mobs. Pick flowers & ore, sell it on the AH. few days of this & you can afford a wow token.

Yes, good secrets never last, sorry druids & rogues

another clever move from Blizzard to get more money from the customer, trying to tie them down longer. What an absolute disgrace

But you can still (at the moment) get a 1 month sub. All you have to do if you only want 1 month is remember to cancel it after it’s kicked in.

And yet Ananda they have not given any reason for the change other than “we conduct reviews on the available services in all currencies”.

I may be cynical but to me this is what they are hoping for, that people will forget to cancel the one month and of course if they do well that just means additional profit.

I am curious as to why they have done this only for GBP?

Not a good move Blizz!

The 30 day option is convenient for those on a lower income living pay cheque to pay cheque.

Doing this will push more people away from the game, especially during a time when people have been losing their jobs left, right and centre!

And why is this only being done to British players?

For money.

If I’d hasard a guess I’d say the sub count has yet to drop and they want to capitalise on it. And since they have a better PR now than they did in the past few years it’s their best opportunity to do a controversial move such as this one.
