Just come back to game after a break of a few months.
When I log in I get a message saying “Chat has been turned off, There are regional regulations…” (I am in UK)… So I click the “Turn chat on” button… and go to settings/social and make sure the “disable chat” box is unticked… and I can chat in game. But if I log out and come back in again, I get the same message and chat has been disabled again.
I have deleted all addons… reset/deleted my WTF folder… and I have repaired the game files… but the issue persists…
Anyone any idea whats going on please? Only seems to happen in Classic Era, does not seem to happen in Classic cataclysm or Retail.
Update 22nd Nov… I can confirm what others have said, its not only when I log in, it randomly pops up the box I described above while playing… not often, but may do it 2 or 3 times in relatively quick succession (over couple of mins)… when you click to allow chat it opens the options->social panel, with the chat disabled box ticked… it also often has the “disable guild invites” ticked (but not always).

I’ve got the same issue , I think this bug was created by the recent patch / downtime .

Hello hi,
Moved this thread over to the Customer Support section and wanted to let you know we’ve seen more reports of this from players in the UK and are currently investigating.
No workarounds at the moment unfortunately, other than to keep re-enabling it, but hopefully the underlying issue can be fixed soon!

I have the same issue - but I strongly believe this is account related. I have tried all the recommended steps for resolving the UI problems without any luck. Went so far as to removing all addons, uninstalling wow (deleting all files) and uninstalling Battle.net.
The problems persisted.
I asked my son, who plays retail, to install classic and everything was OK.
But when I logged with my account to Battle.Net on his machine, the issue appeared.
Which is why I am convinced this is account and not addon or game related problem.
I saw your post earlier and went to check if my problem may be the same as yours, avatar showing me connected to americas rather the eu or uk but when i came back you appear to have deleted that point from your post.
Any reason why you no longer point this out as a reason for the problem?
Hi Pandamonium,
because I was able to change and connect to EU now.
When you log out from your Battle.Net account, and try to log in again, on the login screen above the user name to the right, there is a little cog. If you click that, you will be able to chose the login region.
Just to confirm this is in Battle.Net application - not in the browser.
I changed mine to Europe, but the problem is still there.
Also tried renaming cache, interface and wtf folders after changing the region - but no change.
Hope this helps

bump very frustrating. Seems to toggle on when getting whispers or guild invites and warning pops up in middle of screen.
Edit could be when transfering between layers in classic as well
Also having the same problem, but not only when I first log on - it happens on all my toons - and randomly whilst they are logged on. Also in the UK.

Should mention it’s on Classic Era - not tried on retail.
Yes, for me it also happens randomly during the play. In the middle of fighting the mob or whenever. Not really managed to pinpoint what triggers it…

I’ve got this issue too and have lodged a bug report ingame.
I do have multiple accounts (EU and US) on my Battletag, does anybody here only have a single account?

I just have the single account.

I too have this issue, but not only do I get the Chat box pop up, after I click to allow or disable chat, I then get the Options window ( where you select action bars, Interface etc, after closing that, I then get the main menu screen up. My character is usually dead at this point. If I disable chat I can type in Officer chat but not in guild, if I allow chat these boxes appear frequently and impact game play. I have a new install of all the World of Warcraft on a new PC, have disabled all Add ons, and nothing helps.
I too am in UK with BT/EE

I’m UK based and my ISP is EE/BT, I have access to Virgin Media too and get the same issue on that. I’ve tried the clearing cache, disabling addons etc and still happens then.
My BNet acount is (and was) set to EU.
I have the same - very annoying. Any fix yet?
I have same issue. It’s very annoying. Playing on Classic SoD in UK.
In the logs I found: SET seenRegionalChatDisabled “1”
So this is set to true. But I guess it’s not getting saved.
That’s interesting. From Console_variables page on wowpedia fandom wiki this variable is defined as
seenRegionalChatDisabled 0
Game Account Seen the alert indicating chat has been disabled by default. (UK AADC).
The “Account” means it’s account scope, UK AADC is Age Appropriate Design Code - the regulation that aims to keep children safe online.
I am guessing here, that despite parental controls being completely disabled (at least in my case) in some UK cases - this has been incorrectly set somewhere.
I have tried adding it (With value 0) to the Config.wtf file but as soon as the game launches it gets deleted.

Maybe it because I’m only 55 and need parental control for my speech lol
