Huh. Definitely used to work the way I said, at any rate. Must’ve been changed since then.
Seems incredibly easy to spoof then tbh
thankfully the Old Ways are still around, although they require you to have a general idea of who someone might be.
Yeah the old pet collection tab is still available on the armoury obviously!
One thing I’ll say I’ve used it for is that it can be useful in identifying botters. I’ve had a really messed-up sleep pattern, so there have been days where I’ve slept through until like 7pm, then stayed up all night and slept in the morning, and you’ll find druids running about in straight lines in various Shadowlands zones, gathering herbs and things like that.
Check-pvp is useful there because you can open up their pet or mount collections, or check their achievements, and if it’s a new account then you can discern it’s probably a bot.
I can’t imagine many of us when we first started the game were like ‘yeah I’m just gonna go about and gather herbs and do nothing else at 4am server time’.
Totally not bragging when I say that finding my alts via my battle-pets is probably easy.
Internet weirdos will stalk other players for loads of different reasons – that kind of obsession doesn’t have to come from you having an ‘unclean slate’.
I feel called out
With the two people I’ve sworn off of ever rping with again, I think if they knew about this website they probably would’ve used it to track me. The whole reason I cut ties was because I felt they were crossing personal boundaries by trying to guilt trip me into rping.
do what you want but know that hiding alts on check pvp comes with a history of numerous bad actors in the community doing the same thing in order to astroturf, spread propaganda and do wacky guild infiltrations.
so don’t go crying when people have a tendency to expect the same from you when you do it.
Quite an interesting little guide.
I do believe it is suitable for people who seek a need for higher privacy due to cases of unwanted attention be it stalking, or not. The example mentioned IS a current issue through many online games. I do not believe there is a need to belittle this fact.
Just because one wishes for more privacy does not mean one is hiding something.
Have a nice day.
Thank you, I agree there. Have a nice day too!
I’m still out of likes… Shall I unironically use one of my alts to give you one? xP
Nevermind, have a
As someone who does run out of those often, If I really want to give people one, I just comment with a as a fake replacement until I can come back and give one.
Not a bad idea
I was not aware that there was a limit on “likes” that you can award?
Neither was I until today! Apparently there is.
I think if someone makes baseless assertions about a player simply because they feel more secure without their alts being easily tracked down, that says more about them than their target. So, on a personal level, I’m not all that bothered.
Yeah there is an arbitrary limit(not specified how much, its not that high, like 10-20) per day that you can give.
If I interact with a person and it becomes known to me in some way that they got hidden alts, I won’t start to think “Hmm why is this?”, but more of a “Oh, okay.”
Unless it is like so many of the alt-posters we get on various topics, someone coming in with a massive tone-deaf hot-take & or something completely offensive. Because those are actually the only time I do check someone alts, when I see a fresh posting character spout something weird like a racist or homophobic rant.
And then if said character has alts hidden, it just becomes even more obvious that they have so for nefarious reasons.
But yes, outside of those kind of scenarios I don’t actually check alts, because there is no point or need. And if I would regardless find out a person I’m doing stuff with has hidden alts, it won’t bother me unless they have already raised big red flags beforehand on their own.
If this makes sense?
