After watching the latest interview on Scottyjaye’s channel i heard that blizzard are looking through the forums for peoples opinions on the classic experience going forward. So heres mine and hopefully its echo’d by people in this community.
Theres no denying that wrath of the lich king was one of, if not the pinnacle of the game. Subscription numbers were at an all time high, class balance and class utilisation seemed to be fairly consistant and the raid scene ( possibly excluding totc) was some of the best in memory, especially hard mode ulduar.
After wrath however cataclysm changed the direction of the game with new systems, complete class reworks, forgettable raiding experiences and the destruction of our beloved Azeroth.
Thats why i believe that the best course of action after wrath is classic plus.
Scarlett monistary raid, naga raid, deadmines raid, dire maul raid, emerald dream raid, demon raid in the blasted lands, the list of ideas goes on and on. These are just a few off the top of my head. I dont currently know the number of retail vs classic players but i believe that resorces should be allocated to making this dream for so many classic players a reality. Hopefully others will read this post and add their own thoughts and ideas on how we can move classic in a new, yet familiar direction.
I agree that Cataclysm Classic is not really classic. Whoever wants Cataclysm/MOP/WOD/Legion Classic can play Retail because almost all the content is still there.
But for Vanilla/BC/WOTLK Classic to be viable long term, there should be new content - dungeons, bosses, mounts, pets, quests, events, some new class or race.
cata has better pvp than wrath
while i missed the old world it’s by no means a deal breaker for me.
as someone who was a lore nerd since wc1 i never liked wows story, specially during bc or wrath, and i saw cata as a return to form in some ways.
I beg to differ here. WotlK arenas were well balanced and almost all specs were viable throughout the entire expansion. While Cata specs were also more or less balanced the expansion brought the homogenization of classes with itself which was awful to put it mildly.
More dps classes getting self heals, kicks for everyone except for shadow priests, blood lust for hunters and mages, all healing specs getting dispel magic and the list goes on. That’s a big yikes from me fam.
How exactly is the Cataclysm lore better than WOTLK. I thought WOTLK has the best story ever. I was playing the last quest in Redridge the other day - what place does Rambo have in WOW?
You do realise the video im talking about is an interview with the lead Blizzard developer for WoW Classic? I didnt know that offical annoucements from developers were streamers opinions…
I would like to see servers dedicated to each expansion. Just a couple. So those who want to play in that era stay there and be happy. But maybe a new restart would be cool too.
I think Cata is already a part of a modern era but don’t mind if people want to experience it again.
It’s looking worryingly like they’re going to just release cata classic which is hilarious. The WOTLK classic players remind me of the retail playerbase more and more, just wanting that themepark MMO, instant gratification fix.
Cataclysm with changes.
No LFR and RDF. No flying in revamped Azeroth.
Perhaps reverse changes at some zones. Leave them as they was.
Then MoP.
Vanilla + with new raids, dungeons, added content in dry zones. Implement new zones.
MoP classes with talents and the abilities.
At least change the classes.
I don’t agree with Classic+ idea because there will be no point in WoW Retail in my opinion, and also in my opinion there would not be the need for a Classic WOW if Blizzard did not make the game “easier” and bloated and stuck to the core principle of what the idea of WOW meant in the first place…
Classic was done because some players wanted a replay of the original Vanilla - despite the initial disbelief by Blizzard.
The whole idea of TBC classic, WotlK classic etc is misguided. none of this is done in the original vein and each of these expansions will be a short bonfire (of revenue for Blizzard).
We will see how WotlK goes but i suspect the numbers of subscribers it attracts after month 2 will be too little to even contemplate a Cata rerun (god forbid).
hopefully more attention to ERA servers and the new SoX
