I have played WoW since 2005. I have experienced vanilla and every expansion after that, clearing every raid when they were current content (not in LFR). And after having tried Classic and being reminded of how good the game used to be, I can certainly say that according to me it is far superior to retail.
Here are my thoughts:
Retail:
Basically, collect your weekly mythic+ item from the chest, do 1 or maybe 2 Palace raids, then you log off for the rest of the week and then repeat after reset.
Classic:
It has given me an every-day smile after being reminded of how close to vanilla Classic is, and that old WoW is much more fun. There is so much you can do in the game, things which actually matters to your character and/or to someone else: The leveling journey, acquisition of gear, professions, raiding, PvP (world PvP, currently) and last but not least the social aspect. They are each a slice of the cake which makes Classic as good as it is.
I really hope that Classic will make WoW be as popular, if not more, like it was during peak subscription days in WotLK and earlier.
The real proof that why Classic is so much better than actual Retail iis because you canāt stop playing. Everyday you want to play. Itās like a pure real drugs.
Er but can you do this⦠Given that you want to compare apples for melons then here is the real deal. With retail you get 120 levels plus the post 120 content including new zones. You get the 1 to 60 content and TBC, Lich, Cata, Pandaria, WoD, Legion and BfA. You get to dual spec . A whole bag of new and interesting races. I have no idea how many dungeons there are actually in the real game and all the various raids. And not forgetting Battle Pets I love Battle Pets. Just bullt my Garrison and enjoying WoD on a level 91 character I created just a few days ago. Man does levelling just zonk by, but then I can queue for dungeons while I quest and guarantee almost getting in one every five or so minutes. No problemo.
Mostly though its the new character styles and my beloved Blood Elf and as a mage not having to stop and drink all the time. I also get a fair sprinkling of spells from the getgo and can level pretty quick. I get all the extra flight paths, quest markers and LFG. No problem poppin a dungeon every five minutes no matter what the time of day.
And there is Transmog so I can look magic all the time. We get flying and cool account wide mounts and all your achievements to help along the way. For me I love archaeology and all that entails plus the chance to craft so much gear all the way to my Level 120.
I mean if you were to actually list all the content that is the current game against Classic it would be like plucking a feather from a chicken and handing it to me and saying thatās classic. Me I want the whole chicken mākay.
So try a bit harder and list properly and if you struggle to find anything to do in the proper game just wait till you hit 60 and have to STOP. And here is the scoop⦠only two more years to TBC. I have said this before and I will say it again, they should cut all these Classic lovers adrift and leave them to live in their Classic and remove the current game from their tab. Sure you can have it back but maybe make it a new sub. Then you can decide which you want ti play.
Me Iāll have my current World of Warcraft and not the āmini ingameā that is Classic. And it will never be Vanilla⦠that boat sailed a long time ago and I said goodbye to that the minute I hit TBC. Always moving on and progressing in game.
Game does not stop at level 60, that is like saying game stops as you hit level 120 in Retail.
There is still plenty to do and will be way more with upcoming phases.
Completely agree. Classic is far superior in every way except ādifficult raidsā and high mythic+, but luckily difficulty doesnāt keep me playing a game if itās bad in general.
Classic gives you things to do while playing the game. Retail locks everything behind a time gate so you have to wait for the developerās blessing to do things.
So yes, classic is 100 000 times better than retail. Speaks volume though about the situation on retail, we had to go 15 years back in time to get a good WoW game again, and that WoW game was made by a developer not under the influence of ActivisionBlizzard.
You can gank low hp players, steal other player chest while they clear pack, sap players to annoy them and use distract in bootybay to throw people into water.
Last I checked in retail there is no leveling journey, itās a mindless grind with no challenge at any point. A seasoned player can go from level 1-120 with only a few deaths. I have probably died more times during level 1-20 in Classic, than what I have on a freshly dinged 120 which I leveled from level 1.
Gear on retail is very generic and easy to come by to get geared for raids/mythic+. In Classic you work for your gear, and they are much more difficult to get.
Professions on retail are pretty useless, except for the binds when picked up crafted gear and Alchemy/Herbalism. On Classic many of the recipes someone crafts are actually usable. They can be used both by levelers and max level players.
Letās be honest, there is no social aspect on retail besides guilds. What everyone just want is loot, they say āhiā at the beginning of a raid or dungeon and rarely say a word after that. Then they leave and you probably never see that player again. Classic has no cross-realm, that is why creating friendships is very important or you may be left out.
I too prefer Classic to Retail, but telling people who prefer Retail ānot to pollute this forumā shows nothing of the maturity and social experience you speak of. If anything, it shows that Vuu guy is a lot more polite and kind than you.
If I could get NO SCALING and professions that mattered, and learning of skills at the trainer, feeding of my pet ⦠and, and, and, then maybe, just maybe I could play in a sundered, Horde vs. Alliance pestered world ⦠oh forget it. I want 1000Needles to not be underwater, Dirgeās kickin Chimaerock chops, the ferry to Feathermoon, The ong washā¦
Classic. I am HOME!
Gear. In Retail I did the Ironman Challenge, just to make it a bit fun. I was always dressed in the most up-to-level vendor gear. In Classic this is not an option - even if the vendor gear is more superior. I simply do not have the gold to buy it, or at least not all of it, and not the second I reach a new setās level requirement.
In Retail you level to have the fun at 120. In Calssic you have fun while you level.
Not at all. On the contrary thereās a lot of things to do I found out. I thought the same but Iām still locked to for instance scholamance and other dungeons, plenty of quests to do and I find it funny how a lot of the end game quests explain a lot of lore that I never really thought about or on retail tbh cared about. And the best part is that people say that classic is an endless grind but in reality retail has more grind. When I get my bis items (for now prebis) I can relax, pvp, start a new char or generally just help out my guild. There is KNOWN end to the grind. But on retail I have to keep going, and going and going. When I have good items on retail theres still raiderio score to improve for instance. I want it to end⦠It is OKAY to be ādoneā with a game. Iām even still going to login or start a new char.
A game is not defined as āgoodā by the quantity of features but the quality and even there classic has some less quality features but yet they are fulfilling and they make sense. I love a lot if things on retail but they donāt make up for the bad things at all in the game. I hate a lot of things in classic but they make sense and the good parts shadow the bad parts.
