The ToSA also includes a footnote saying it is in addition to the EULA and that, in legal jargon, “if it’s not an intended function, it breaks the rules”. Of course I had hoped that cross RP depending on battle net group chats would make it “intended” but guess not.
It’s becoming a drag how the consistent argument for most of these is players being mean to each other. If they just made it opt in and out, like the addon was, it’d probably resolve the majority of that situation easily enough. Not to mention there’s the ignore/report functionality for a reason
Guess if we want to roleplay with cross faction communication, we may as well re-roll to one of the ones that already have access to it. I had hoped that was a test or something along the lines before actually bringing it all in, but with this whole thing? not so much anymore.
Disallowing cross faction communication while allowing it via demon hunters by way of sloppy work seems perfectly consistent with the Blizzard I know.
Just disabling the chat to avoid accusations of allowing naughy language, bullying and scandalous articles seems out of character but I will not put anything past Activision now.
Let’s do the equivalent of that IRL.
A few people sit in prison for doing crimes. They abused their freedom so that they could harm others.
So… Going with Blizzard’s logic: let us imprison all of humanity, yes? Let’s remove your enjoyment because there is a slight possibility of someone abusing it. Let’s not punish bad behavior, no no. Let’s just remove that fun for everyone. 1% out of 99% are misusing it or there is the potential someone does? Removed.
So uh… Let’s imprison all humans because a small percentage are in prison.
Oh my goodness, all our RP addons are against the rules too! No fun allowed whatsoever. Bunch’a joyless sticks in the mud, these corporations.
That’s exactly the calculation made because it’s not about statecraft but warcraft and the corporation owning it will cull whatever might threaten the streamlining of quarterly profit. If 1% misbehaves, 100% have to feel it. Especially with games becoming a service rather than bought and owned like the good ole days and the modern player forfeiting all rights to the product and accomplishments therein.
We should start coming up with ideas because i see some RP events coming up really soon, wont want to see those go to waste now, wouldn’t we? (don’t worry i’m not signing up)
So… i guess there are parleys, translators and diplomacy roles filled by elves and pandaren again? do people have ideas and or plans ready?
We aren’t in the Cold War any more buddy. Those can stay at home sipping tea. Leave the RP-PvP to the soldiers.
…
But their own Battle Net Communities work cross faction…
Which is what allowed Cross RP to work in the first place.
Chyou’s campaign is in a few weeks. It’s not like Cross RP, while sick and cool, was required for RP-PvP in the last, what, decade the server has existed?
Hold on, going to edit it…
I’m really curious now to see if they will reply at all on why they blocked addons from accessing community chat channels (or whatever they did to block CrossRP and similar addons).
I tried to forward the US link to Christie Golden (not because I think she have much power here, but she had looked and appreciated the Drums of War campaign so she might place a good word for us) and @warcraft_dev. If someone have an idea of who else to contact?
So I got a reply to my ticket. Demonic (and if Thalassian and Pandaren also still work cross-faction) are still fine to use, which was expected. In the same response, they also said, in response to the addon:
While I understand that this addon was used widely amongst the RP community, at the end of the day it’s not intended that the factions be able to speak to each other. After all - they are at war!
So it seems like, at least judging by the response, they won’t revert it until/if the terms are changed/it’s changed in-game. That’s how I see it, at least.
maybe this’ll be put to bed now.
Better see them be consistent about this then. Remake the Lost Honour cinematic.
Anduin: goibon uden lo
Saurfang: kek
I usually try to stay polite but…
These retards. Oh my god.
Ok, so means basically all cinematics where faction NPC’s speak to eachother are non-canon. So this means WoW ended with TBC due to not being able to speak to the other faction and the burning legion running us over.
Give me a reason why pandaren, void elves, demon hunters can tho? Why all the NPC’s can? Give me a reason why Saurfang and Anduin spoke to eachother in the latest cinematic? Please Blizzard, tell us how that’s possible if they are at war with eachother? Remember kids, if you speak the same language - war is impossible. Any war IRL that started with a disagreement BECAUSE they spoke the SAME language did not happen.
It’s like Blizzard employees don’t understand the meaning and concept of RP and that not everyone agrees with what they are trying to do. Not even the people that don’t RP agree with what Blizzard has done to the lore.
om nom nom om om nom om nom om nom nom om
Firstly, I think it’s important to point out ((just in case)) that we shouldn’t be shooting the messenger (the GM). That’s the only answer they can really give at this point, given the very strange stance Blizzard seems to have on cross-faction.
Secondly, after reading up on the US’ thread about this, it seems like what initially triggered this entire situation, is Cross-RP being caught in the crossfire of a bigger issue. That being, to quote the author of Cross-RP themself; “external sources feeding the game data from a community (especially if that data is received through compensated methods)” and “other privacy concerns.” Food for thought in regards to the topic, as well as what I posted last.
Yes, the addon had some security issues due to the relay being readable by anyone. The author warned about that however. Just for once I thought we may have something great. But nope. Blizzard just needs to ruin stuff once more. They could focus on bringing content or something that the community is waiting for, but no, they decide to do this in the middle of them being surrounded by controversy. Give players more content or stuff they like? Nah, let’s piss off even the last community that we have. Are they trying to outdo Bethesda for 2018’s most hated controversy? Is there even anyone working anymore at Blizzard for WoW or did they really all go to Diablo immortal? Is there anyone at Blizzard currently in charge that understands the importance of communication and to maybe listen to your playerbase and look into stuff?
Guess I will just wait for my 14 days to run out and if it isn’t fixed then I am gonna take a break from this game. Maybe look into it in a few patches again to see if stuff is fixed. RP and especially cross-rp was the last thing to keep me at this game. Is Blizzard trying to kill WoW?
Absolutely unacceptable Blizzard, once again a gross display of their complete disconnect from the playerbase. Roleplayers are the most loyal community of subscribers you could ask for, even when the game is in a bad place we stay because we create our own content. Killing this fantastic addon is another unbelievable ignorant blunder. Remove the language barrier for RP servers
