You mean you want to create your own characters story and forge out your own path, make some awesome friends…OUTSIDE of thier narrative structure and lacklusture content.
You’re playing the game wrong.
shame on you! get back to those world quests and all new paragon rep system.
It’s not like enemies in real world history talked to each other all the god damn time or anything.
There’s a laundry list of times where everyone from the top ranks to the footmen spoke to the ‘enemy’ for one reason or another, both in the game and in real life when the world was far more disconnected and segregated than it is now.
The “It’s war” excuse is a load of bollocks. Plain and simple. Maybe you wouldn’t hear enemy soldiers shouting orders in universal language, no, but literally anything else, even in battle, is fair game.
I’m seeing a fair bit of “Just use the group chats normally” on the US forums. I so very wish I could post there and point out that we can’t see character names on it, and it’d be impractical for large events.
I thoroughly hope that either an arrangement can be made that Cross-RP may yet return, or some other add-on may take it’s place. It was honest-to-god a breath of fresh air on the RP-scene unlike any I’ve seen before, and what came to be because of it (Neutral guilds, neutral RP, actual life and people conversating with one-another in otherwise obsolete locations like Booty Bay, Tanaris and Dalaran).
I sincerely hope there can be some clarity to this from all parties involved, be it the Blizzard developers, x-rp developers and the roleplayers alike. Neutral RP is the reason my subscription money keeps personally ticking, and I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to throw money at Blizz again, and again, were I able to continue to do the thing I love doing.
I wouldn’t then proclaim that this was aimed directly at the crossRP addon. Perhaps there were other addons that exploited Communities in some other way.
Yet I fail to imagine that being possible, hence Blizzard taking the fun out of the game is not entirely surprisable or unforseen.
In fairness, I did some snooping and it turns out some other addons are affected. Nothing concrete but I saw some mutterings about certain LFG addons being impacted by these changes too. It seems the API that permitted interaction with bnet in any way got a lot more restrictive on the whole.
If that’s the case, then that seems reasonable that CrossRP would be down as well, LFG addons have been a plague on Blizz’s tail for a while now and this seemed a blanket ban.
Nonetheless, we still need to bring up that CrossRP got caught in this conundrum of a crossfire.
Yeah, this is stupid. Nice one Blizz; you refuse to give RPers anything nice under your own steam, and one of the great community created tools you go ahead and trash.
Really engenders good will from some of your most loyal subscribers… Not.
I’ve taken a lot of their design blunders in the transition from Legion to BfA with mild irritation. From the utter failure of class design (excluding the two classes that got legit redesigns) to the unfun grindy nature of island expeditions, to warfront “zergal” design making it impossible to play and have fun with for long, to making tanking the clunkiest chore in all existence, to the uninspiring instance design, to the absolute cognitive dissonance permeating their storytelling, to their overall attitude regarding game design of insisting that their point of view is the only viable one.
But I think I’ve reached my limit and exceeded it. And majorly.
I’ve stood with a lot of Blizzard’s design choices even if they’ve been controversial - maybe not so much on the forums, but if I’ve found something conceptually sound but “not right there yet”, I’ve made sure to point that out to my friends.
So far, BfA’s broken me quicker than anything WoD ever threw at us. I can’t point at one thing and say “that’s bad”, because I’m not talking about one single thing like the invalidation of Cross-RP. It’s been a string of failures, shortcomings, disappointments and broken promises and it’s finally reached a point where none of it can be justified without utter white-knighting.
Oh btw, if cross-faction chat is prohibited, then remove panda and DH chatter, Communities and the entire Battle(dot)Net functionality. They’re breaking their own rules with those systems.
TL;DR: Please. No. More. I’ve been hoping for Blizzard to restore their “glory days”, but they keep making these utter blunders and definite suicide attempts.
