I honestly dont get the problem with DF its a good expansion.
It’s actually really easy to like night elves. Lots of lore and a cool arc in BFA that went from loss to revenge.
Whats difficult is liking the night elf playerbase that takes everything exciting new and fun and complains that its not the same as it was in classic
People who dont play night elves honestly like them more than people who do
I quite like my chosen race taking heavy Ls because I enjoy traumatising my OCs, as long as the story around it is good. I thought Teldrassil turning to a heap of kindling was cool, I got years of compelling roleplay out of that.
Alas, a lot of the night elf stuff isn’t good, like Malfurion nonsensically going to Ardenweald so that a character with a completed story arc and an established successor can come back one expansion later.
I agree! Adversity, loss and revenge make great stories. It’s just a shame that storyline was cut short in the name of “peace and love and forgiveness”, and so on. Darkshore also remains plague-ridden, uninhabitable wreck, which is a shame.
TBH Orcs come in as a close second after Night Elves when it comes to the amount of content centered around them.
yeah but they dont complain and they love the time in the spotlight because orc players at least know how to have a smidgeon of fun
I don’t think you’re listening.
Tbh, the lack of sympathy and care probably comes from people who play other races who barely get a thought from Blizzard, so no matter the “quality” of the lore, it’s still a bit annoying when people who hog most of the limelight in terms of race focus complain 24/7 about whatever the new thing is.
At least that’s my view. Draenei got their first new lore since like… 2017 recently, and it, assuming it is what everyone is dreading, will be 100% worse than anything Night Elves have gotten so far.
hmm yeah i wonder why
oh wait, the one time they get bad lore (all the famous warchiefs dying in wod and whatnot) they suddenly threw a temper tantrum, weird that!
I’ve been listening since BFA and in that entire time night elf players have complained about how bad nazjatar was, and how bad teldrassil was, and how bad this new stuff is
yeah im not listening anymore because you just keep whining incessently
read what I quoted
(not that I mind people dunking on Nelves as that’s 100% spot on but orc players really shouldnt lament what they got compared to almost every other playable race bar Draenei and Humans)
i dont think we saw the same responses to the 80 sad saurfang cinematics
mmmm anime.
Roleplayers with an appreciation for a certain race (any race) are damned either way, really. If Blizzard gives them heaps of lore, it’s usually poorly planned, written, and implemented. If Blizzard occasionally gives them scraps from the table, then they’re just deprived of new story beats to work with.
Gonna be a radical centrist right here for a second (will vomit afterwards because of it) and say that night elf players are valid in being frustrated, as are players of races who enjoy less of the spotlight.
The saurfang cinematics where beautiful. My only wish was that the sylvanas vs saurfang fight was more epic + not just sylvanas being stronger physically so there was a more dynamic fight instead of 1 charater just has more stats.
the blizzard storywriting backflipping and doing a triple mortal flip with sheer potential only to land face-first and break its face into the pavement when trying to deliver actual character development (they need to upkeep the status quo and they never used storyboards properly so no plots go anywhere except villains, where they end in a stat stick fight)
And when we do… it’s about Gazlowe () taking over the main cartel…
I totally do understand feeling frustrated at the media you consume, in the same way I understand feeling elated or crushed or moved or any such else. An emotional response is a good thing.
I admit, though, yes, I do start to find myself kind of tuning out night elf comments. Maybe that makes me a facetious female hound, then so be it, but I feel while we’re still in the depths of a story that is still ongoing, being one of the focal races receiving so much attention, which at this stage will be drama and conflict and difficulties to overcome… I don’t think people appreciate how it can look to see examples over and over of how important and vital to this world and its story telling this race is, and have it often treated like an insult on those people in real life.
I can absolutely moan with the best of them, and have done lengthily so about the Horde being villain-balled again, or important Darkspear Troll stuff being given to the Zandalari who were already rich with their own lore. So I do get that the race you love is the race you want to see doing well, and being involved (getting lore means getting bad lore memes aside).
My beef really is with that kind of attitude that to not agree the night elves are constantly being jerked around on purpose by the devs as some act of malice, is me being in support of that imagined malice.
Obviously, that’s more a twitter problem than a fine fellow users of the AD forums problem, and I will absolutely concede to that, if anyone felt I’d trod on their toes by prodding fun at that particularly histrionic group.
Also I’m not having a go at you Loras, I’m just springboarding off your comment with this reply, it’s not aimed at you in specific.
E: Bloody typos, man. English is actually my mother tongue.
They were very well made! Lots of people were exceptionally mad about them though because it wasn’t trve Horde/Orc stuff and treason this and that!
this was actually very clever foreshadowing by blizzard, teasing that sylvanas would become a raidboss…
Feels personally attacked + throws you into smelly dumpster
Anyone who attributes Blizzard’s poor writing to malice instead of being, well, poor writing isn’t claimed by me though for sure.
