I’m not talking specifically gay or straight romance, I’m talking romance in general. I don’t think it’s done well most of the time, and I think it in large part comes down to it being an MMORPG rather than a true RPG game.
We end up with these connections being only explored through additional material such as novels and short stories, rather than see much (if any) of it in the game itself. I consider that a bit naff, when one day, as an example, someone casually mentions how Jaina is now dating a dragon.
Show. Don’t tell. And that is something this genre of doesn’t do as well as others.

Yea, who would’ve thought this except LGBT shippers on forums. Well, they ship everyone who say hello to each other already. And they were friends not close friends, I don’t remember saying they were close friends, I said they had a friendship and funny interactions, does this make them eligible to be a couple without any foreshadow? This game’s story is tied to narrative and how good it is. Narrative was bad, there were no signs hinting at this relationship at all. Forced.

I don’t think romance has to be done well in games, I very much prefer this in the lore around games, such as books. It makes no sense to abolish relationships in games though, because that would just be weird. Imagine a fantasy world without relationship or love

True. Not to mention the fact that sexual orientation and partners often doesnt come up in day to day life. Im often shocked at work If I find out someone is married or gay or has 5 kids or is actually 50 and not the 25 I thought they were…just coz those things rarely come up when we are working!
I think there should be more relationships in WoW, not less. Characters really dont seem to have any kind of personal progression beyond that expansions ‘threat of the week’. It makes no sense that important characters dont have personal lives.

I love that everytime a gay character/couple pops up in the story everybody and their mother is on the forums like yeah i’m not homophobic or anything but i hate romance of any kind in any video game, even straight romanance.
