You misunderstand my point. I’m saying that the exaggerated aggression for the memes is legitimately off putting to newcomers. Criticism of people with defiant zero intention to ever RP on a RP server is legitimate while “normal” OOCers who might otherwise be interested are driven into the defiant camp. It’s radicalization that spreads the word that AD is an insular den of freaks and that RP is to be laughed at.
Nah, I’m not basing my argument on that whatsoever. I’m just wary of the loudest denigration of the OOCer as a menace without any constructive action will ultimately stem the trickle of new RPers completely.
Put in its simplest form:
“Hello AD, I like to raid.”
“You suck, GTFO ”
Is not constructive. Of course, neither is the raider going:
“OMG nerds shut up the game is for everyone”
Promote and encourage RP. If that fails, discourage exclusivity. If met with hostility, answer in kind. The self annihilation comes from driving out every casual with memery, salting the earth.
But people do gatekeep, just look at this thread. Anti-OOC nutters pile on people on this forum and in trade all the time because not everyone wants to be IC all the time.
I have an RP character on this server who is active but still had gatekeepers swarming me because I posted on my main. This is the first place some people look when seeking a realm to move to and it shows the server to be full of toxic and abusive players.
One might question if there’s a healthy community to gatekeep at this point. From a lot of the profiles and RP of late, I fear Nero is busy playing the fiddle already.
I guess that’s a discussion for another thread though. Suffice to say I believe there are far bigger problems than OOCers.
All you are doing here is proving exactly why people are annoyed and fed up with this kind of thing(OOCers so to speak).
No one has EVER said you must be IC all the time or RP 24/7, infact people have regularly said that as long as you just show the bare minimum of interest in roleplay, go right ahead.
The only time “you must be ic all time” is brought up is when someone like you makes statements like this.
It is perfectly reasonable to ask why they chose AD, or suggest to players that explicitly states they either don’t want to roleplay or admittedly dislike it, that they should look for another server.
The dumbest thing is if you’d what these players do for anything else(IE go on a PvP server and say you dont like PvP) you’d end up openly mocked and laughed at by everyone & often also legitimately harassed.
I’m not saying such behavior is okay, but I don’t understand why even being asked about their reasoning alot more nicer is such a terrible thing just because it’s a roleplay server?
It’s not like it’s hard to have a raid guild of roleplayers. You come here with the expectation of people roleplaying, so your recruited raiders will be roleplayers. If nobody is, it’s outlandish, off brand and weird for the server.
The people ‘who pile on’ keep telling you that no one ever said anyone has to be IC 24/7. We just want people who are interested and participate in RP to play in RP server and people who intend to only raid and do nothing else, to kindly go to other existing servers.
Congratulations, you have learned that Trade is a cesspit of toxicity. I hardly ever seen anything in Trade that isn’t RMT and boosting ads, assorted homophobia, Trumpoids malding and stale memes, hence why I turned it off on all characters when I was still playing.
No, you just chose a convenient strawman and clutch onto it with all you have.
I’ll be real with you here, I personally have no strong feelings on this matter and while I’d rather everyone who joins the server has at least 0.03% interest in rp, I realize that this is apparently too much to ask of some people and nobody can stop non-rpers from coming in. But seeing this “RPers dEmAnD eVeRyoNE stAYs IC 24/7!!!” lie parroted every time the subject comes up is incredibly tiresome. I’ve been browsing these forums for a long time and, while “literally no one” sure is a bit hyperbolic, the absolute dominating majority do not expect people to stay IC all the time, because even the most hardcore RPers don’t stay IC 100% of the time.
I’m actually curious and going to ask a serious question.
What is the actual point of having a dedicated raiding guild if everyone roleplays?
My guild has big PvP heads and have taken part in raids. Other guilds that are affiliated OOC have a sizable number of people who spend most their time doing content when they are not roleplaying.
I can’t help but feel that it is unnecessary for exclusively none-RP guilds to exist where regular RPers fulfill these roles anyway.
I have seen it a couple of times, but whenever a raiding guild got dunked on and told to move by RPers, said RPers would get dunked on by pve/pvp players in return. So typical Trade flinging competition and toxicity. It’s all part of the Trade ecosystem, so there is no point in hyper focusing on that. (I’m only talking alliance side here)
