Non-rpers on AD are the NEET’s of wow
Asking to have the common sense to read and respect the server tag is toxic.
Abusing of others good will, drinking the coffee that isn’t meant for you and act smug about it saying “friends invited me” is totally not toxic and jerkish.
Some people need to get real.
Are we talking about this forum? because you just painted a picture of someone or something I simply cannot recognize in a vast majority.
My take (and the one I see most) is that players will simply insist that the people who do this are at the very least silly if they have no malicious intent and at the very worst outright malicious if they have malicious intent and depending on the intent they will be called either silly or outright malicious regardless of Blizzards own policy.
So actually most are entirely aware that it isn’t enforcable but still choose to try, for the sake of the last roleplaying bastion in EU
Based, my pasta lives on
There are just three truths:
If you want to RP, do it.
If you don’t want to RP, don’t disturb those who do.
If you do want to try out RP, go ahead we will give you some pointers
Except, if you don’t want to RP and have no interest to RP, go do whatever you do on a different realm that is not dedicated to people who do have interest in RP.
Speaking from personal experience, I had little to no interest in RP when I first joined an RP server back in TBC. I just assumed it would be a bunch of people doing /y or /s during dungeons or questing content. I had no RP experience whatsoever.
Then I discovered it, gradually, and I started to absolutely love it.
If I had a bunch of people on the forums telling me not to join the server, I probably wouldn’t have bothered, lol, and tbh it’s a bit weird and gate-keepy.
I’ll steal my own copypasta to make a point:
Here’s a list of every non-RP EU realm/connected realm:
Aerie Peak / Bronzebeard
Aggra / Grim Batol
Aggramar / Hellscream
Al’Akir / Skullcrusher / Xavius
Alonsus / Anachronos / Kul Tiras
Arathor / Hellfire
Aszune / Shadowsong
Auchindoun / Dunemaul / Jaedenar
Azjol-Nerub / Quel’Thalas
Azuremyst / Stormrage
Blade’s Edge / Eonar / Vek’nilash
Bladefist / Frostwhisper / Zenedar
Bloodfeather / Burning Steppes / Executus / Kor’gall / Shattered Hand
Bloodhoof / Khadgar
Bronze Dragonflight / Nordrassil
Burning Blade / Drak’thul
Burning Legion
Chamber of Aspects
Darksorrow / Genjuros / Neptulon
Darkspear / Saurfang / Terokkar
Doomhammer / Turalyon
Draenor
Dragonblight / Ghostlands
Dragonmaw / Haomarush / Spinebreaker / Stormreaver / Vashj
Emerald Dream / Terenas
Frostmane
Kazzak
Kilrogg / Nagrand / Runetotem
Lightbringer / Mazrigos
Magtheridon
Outland
Ragnaros
Ravencrest
Shattered Halls / Sunstrider et al.
Silvermoon
Stormscale
Sylvanas
Tarren Mill / Dentarg
The Maelstrom / Deathwing / Karazhan / Lightning’s Blade
Thunderhorn / Wildhammer
Twilight’s Hammer / Agamaggan et al.
Twisting Nether
This doesn’t include the following, “RP” realms, that are now dead for RP:
Darkmoon Faire / Earthen Ring
Defias Brotherhood / Ravenholdt et al.
Moonglade / Steamwheedle Cartel / The Sha’tar
Leaving the sole RP realm:
Argent Dawn
So it’s very much a case of: if you’re not interested in RP, why come to the one realm left that really has RP, instead of one of the many normal realms available? Not that doing chill content is bad, all power to you, but there’s plenty of options outside the last RP server for it.
A better question would probably be “Why?”, what does playing on AD bring you over other realms if you’ve no intention of RPing? There are plenty of low-pop casual realms to choose from to the point where choosing to play on the only RP realm whilst having no intention of roleplaying seems pointless.
its not mandatory no, most people dont RP on the server. however there’re people who do RP so its important you dont ruin it for them.
Burn AD down. straight up beacuse of goldshire/silvermoon
Go back to Ravencrest on your priest and stay there you absolute waste of trolling space
Bruh u need to calm down kid.
The answer is a big fat NO.
AD is as much PvP and PvE oriented as any other server.
Most people do a bit of everything.
Just respect others and don’t ruin their fun.
Live in the knowledge that, some of the hostility you may encounter regarding the topic springs from people doing the exact opposite.
I’ll humbly ask you to not make it worse if you decide to move.
Regardless, I hope you will join us, so welcome!
Ideally, you should RP whilst on the server.
As a roleplayer, I’d much prefer if the people on this server were roleplaying and not just le epic Goldshire dwellers stinking up potential RP spots.
But unfortunately, I have no power to stop people from doing that so ultimately do as you will and at least be mindful of those who do RP.
Imagine going to a gym. Imagine paying the monthly membership fee. Imagine going there every day after work, getting changed in the lockeroom, going out onto the gym floor and… not working out. You just sit there looking at memes on your phone not working out, not jogging, not lifting, not partaking in any gym activity at all. Taking up space that should go to someone who actually wants to get mad gainz.
That’s how you look to us, we who RP on this RP Realm. That’s how ludicrous you appear.
Yes. Yes we do.
Everyone gatekeeps their hobby and don’t pretend you don’t. It’s how you maintain a healthy environment and stop people who do not have their heart in it from spoiling it.
If I were to join your hobby and try inject… Say hypothetically - a problematic agenda. You’d be pissed that I’m ruining the mood and you wouldn’t want to interact with me.
People who are willing to try RP are more than welcome. I encourage everyone to at least TRY it. And no, you don’t have to do it 24/7 - that’s madness. IRL always comes before IC and everyone needs some downtime. Regular game content is typically done out of character.
Think gate-keeping is fine where trolls or people who actively cause distress to those who are role-playing is concerned.
Do think it would serve the hobby more if we encouraged people to try or to partipate in RP even if they express an initial disinterest. The more unwelcome a community seems, the less likely even people who are interested in it are to join it.
This is all that needs to be said. The parody image of the screeching RPers demanding everyone play a role at all hours, typing in ye olde englisc has to die but so does the image of the OOCer as an entirely irredeemable pest actively invading The Last Server to destroy it from within with horrific methods like making a raid guild.
I won’t deny the latter exist, actively spurred on by “lol look at the nerds” streamers and their gaggle but there’s also a vicious cycle of players hitting a wall when presenting the notion of any OOC time at all and returning to trash RP out of spite, further reinforcing OOC players as a menace.
AD is indeed The Last Server but there are better ways to keep it than memeing your way into cultural self annihilation by aggressive gatekeeping that scares off anyone remotely curious of learning RP in the first place.
That’s the thing though, people do NOT gatekeep here against people who are curious of learning RP. People are gatekeeping against people who are determined to stay on this server without ANY intention to RP EVER. There is a large distinction.
I don’t buy that we will bring on ourselves ‘cultural annihilation’ because we are aggressively talking off people who don’t have any intention or interest in practicing the tag of this server, this line of thought is a huge pile of speculation and assumption with no small amount of bias, based on a choice handful of anecdotes from people, who for some reason, are practicing the dogma that any place needs to welcome anybody no matter what.
