Ironic that you say my argument is “dumb”, then proceed to make an example even dumber.
It’s one thing to order a car and it comes without its tires (core functionality) and complaining about a video game and not being able to unlock an allied race in it yet (side feature).
You can play TWW without the Earthen unlocked. You will unlock them in 2 weeks anyways. You are literally complaining about a side feature while the entire main functionality of the product was delivered and all other side features aside of one perhaps too. That’s like complaining about the 2% missing.
And as you should know by experience, Blizzard (and other game studios running MMORPGs and Online Games) that they tend to timegate certain stuff ALL THE TIME. This shouldn’t come at a surprise to you.
As I said, you can play the Expansion, right? So the core functionality was delivered. You are complaining about a 2% thing.
And just for your info, I want the Arathi armor set ASAP. Do you see me being like “OMG BLIZZARD, WHY IS THIS TIMEGATED? SUCH A TRASH COMPANY!!!” or something to that extent? No? Because I can wait like a grown adult compared to you, whining like children about a “delay” at worst for your paid feature.
it doesn’t have anything about being an adult, it is simply a product not being sold as advertised. Also it is not a side feature, they legit portray it as one of the main features that would be unlocked at launch.
As for their example, it was a similar scenario with a different product. Essentially a product being delivered without the promised additions on date. It is not end of the world but it is not the norm either, if you are happy waiting kudos to you, doesn’t mean people don’t have the rigth to voice their displeasure.
And again in this case, in a wow like game where LEGIT TIME IS EVERYTHING. Two weeks matters a lot, specially given most people have jobs or families.
If you wish to have a better example, imagine ordering a pc, with an ethernet cable and have it arrive at time but without the ethernet cable. Company calls you and tells you that cable will arrive a week before your finales.
If you need further explanation, pc refers to the game, ethernet cable to the earthen, and finales to the start of the season. Some people are grinding heroics rn, doubtless many more will join them in a day or two, in two weeks? Gl leveling a new char in time to 80, then gear them, and then catch up to everyone xP.
Oh, tell me again where WoW, specifically in this case runs on time?
Season 1 of TWW starts the very same day the last chapter for the achievement comes out.
Unless you are some min/maxer that tries to squeeze every 0,01% out of the game, this situation doesn’t affect you at all in your time. You still can use the time to play on your existing characters, preparing for S1. You can still grind all the reps, all the rares, etc.
Unless you planned to play all of that on an Earthen Day 1 (which is a fair expectation, in regards of the former advertising), it isn’t hurting “your time” in WoW really.
The only reasonable complaint would be if the Earthen were advertised as part of the expansion and then later on Blizzard pulls back after selling copies under those advertise conditions, saying the Earthen are being scrapped as allied race.
THAT would be a violation of the terms of sale from Blizzards side. But releasing them 2 weeks later with start of S1? Hardly. Does it suck? Sure. Is it within their (bending) rights as distributor? Likely.
Guess imma go to my regional tech store and buy me an alternative one then?
This is such a bad example.
Then you still can grind all the gear for your Earthen, since it’s Warbound, and put it in your Warbound bank?
Like what the hell is even the issue aside of maybe the character level and quest progress?
Nothing you are trying to convey matters as the fact remains the earthen were advertised as being available for launch and they clearly are not, in addition to the visual proof that the marketing material is being changed to reflect the new situation of which customers were not informed. They sold something and did not deliver as advertised
Watch this at 33mins ish Ion said in blizzcon you will need to do the campaign “fully” to earn ED no campaign at launch has been fully open so why you all expected to have ED day 1 is a surprise.
They have always staggered the story for first month to keep players intrested and semi busy.
You could make Draenai, Blood Elves, Goblins, Worgens, Pandaren at the expansion launch. You could get Void Elves, Nightborne , High mountain Taurens and Light forged Draenai in BfA prepatch as promised. People had expectations, that they would be able to race change or start an Eartheren alt at launch, but now it seems this content is postponed.
Isn’t Blizzards fault to people make false expectations in their head.
All the allied races were established in lore and story BEFORE they became available. Why should that be any different for the Earthen?
Did you people really expect to play an Earthen BEFORE EVER MEETING THEM?
I guess the word “story consistency” is an unknown one to you folks?
Even the Dracthyr were introduced with their entire starting zone + pre-patch BEFORE the expansion. And that is a rare incident because their story was not directly related to DFs main story and just a side-thing.
Look if you tolerate this behaviour of false advertising next time it would be not just the new race delay, but missing zones and other features. Blizzard would happily cut the content out and sell you remains.
If people have false expectations in their head then it’s because the advertising and promotional material was misleading, evidenced by the fact that they’ve since changed it. In regards to your second point, I don’t believe anyone expected to be able to make an earthen before meeting them, I do believe that they expected to create an earthen once the campaign was finished as that is what we were told right up until about an hour before the main release when it was revealed that the campaign was to be time gated. Again.
Instead of looking at the evidence and just saying “hey, seems they misrepresented it, my bad!” you have to write a dissertation justifying why you’re too boneheaded to do the right thing.
Guess we’re in the post truth / post common sense world.
True, but it’s Blizzards fault to do a little bit of False Advertising.
It’s really simple, if you promise something to a person under the pretence of them getting it earlier by paying extra and then not full filling that promise, then this is what one might call False Advertising, some might even call it Fraud.
What ever you might call it, is not relevant to what it really is, no matter how much you like to be the “Adult” here for being fine with being lied too.
not to mention that if it wasn’t false advertisement they would have no need to remove the avalible at launch text the moment these topics flared up x’D
this is the main problem. is true there is no sense in rushing, but the said a very precise statement. and they changed it.
Is “false” advertising. no doubt in that.
