Many welcomed the “fresh start” /“it will all be better this time”… Everyone is reset, the economy starts at zero again, all that good stuff… cake and rainbows
WHat they forgot to factor in was the hundreds of people that asked on every RMT site and dscord on earth if they could buy gold before the servers even launched, because they “wanted to get ahead” and /or knew that they wouldn´t have time to llay enough to spend weeks getting to maxlevel as would be the norm.
And just with that one detail alone, everyone was inevitably doomed to do nothing more than repeat the same cycle once again…just with a double speed release cadence, making it even more attractive to purchase gold and buy boosts than it was before.

You absolutely cant compare bots in 2005 and bots now… in 2005 they had strictely NO IMPACT on server economy. Today, bots FLYHACK. Not even imaginable in 2005…
The GM were here to moderate bots AND players! Thats why they existed. and for the record, it was even pretty fun to have a discussion with them, they were known and respected on servers!
Im not sure you played in 2004/2005 to say that… ok some goldseller existed after the year 1, but it was absolutely not a standard pratice at it is today, and again, it had no impact on server economy (based on the fact that people were noob and didn’t know what item was valuable)
Really, in 2004/2005 mage 40 boosting in scarlet monastery. hahaha. NO. They were only good at sheeping, and whining at hunter multishots. The 1rst year 1% of the players, mages included) knew how to play their character.And worst, itemisation was terrible before 1.4, so I really doubt about what is said here.
Today mages are exploding ZF ID in a minute, warriors are boosting Maraudon as professionnal workers. NOTHING is comparable between now and 20 years ago.
And do not forget something, we are playing with 1.12 update. litteraly EVERYTHING is nerfed, EVERYTHING. So botting/boosting in 2004/5, with poor knowledge of the game, lack of theorycraft, was clearly ineffcient comparing what it is done today.
I want megaservers. I’ve seen way too many classic servers die and the utter misery that causes to be against megaservers. There, refuted. Just make them with a sensible layer system that does not lead to extreme lotus scarcity. Modify layer quantity only once per week, at reset, based on maximum player load of last week. That’s it, crisis solved, lotus goes back to sensible prices <100g.
yes that is caused by other problems that need to be addressed; not because there aren’t 20k people stuffed into one awful windows xp server like we have currently…
That´s because of 20 years of minmaxing, guidea, and 1.12… but that in no way means it wasn´t always a thing… hell, it was literally one of the reasons I didn´t start in vanilla, was because a work friend who played a mage said “just install it and I´ll carry you to maxlevel in under a week and then we can raid together”… and to me that´s not playing a videogame and never was, that´s going AFK and wathcing your XP bar fill up 59 times.
And 2 years later I started playing normally without him, on the same realm, and roughly 6 months later showed him what a mage is really capable of… not to spite him, but just because I had managed to actually reach the level most players these days seem to believe themselves capable of “if only everyone else would git gud”

This is not about classic this is about farming all day just to buy FLASK!
Black lotus was first 20g then 65,78…few days ago last time I check 120g and flask was 200. So u want to tell me is normal me to spend entire night farming so I can buy just one flask!?
I know classic is grind but this is absurd even on cata and other expansions ratio of prices is not like this. Other versions of wow have dailies, weekly so even without farming gold just by doing it u can make or buy consumables while classic have 0 chance . And farming agains bots and ppl who buy gold is useless.
U cant stop ppl boting or buy gold, more u ban more they will come back to game. Wow is not only game where u have this issues and just cant stop.
Its simple just dont buy flask
But. The community.
When there were about 3k players left on the Classic realms in 2023 the community cried loud about “dead servers”. They want instant instance invites and if this doesn’t happen, “the server is dead”. So ppl had to leave their “homes” to fill up another “dead server”. And it doesn’t really help filling instance groups or so.
Personally I don’t like Megaservers. Atm these and the extsting bot- and goldbuyer-problem helps me as a self farmer to make way more gold than usual. Since I don’t do instances or raids I can go and buy me clothes from AH if “needed”. But that’s rare bc for AV spamming I don’t need epics. 
Will change when I am 60 and play AB, then I wanna be dressed decent.
Tldr:
More layers with way less people on each permanently. Tbh, I’d prefer playing on a “dead server” which is cozy and familiar.
Yes, the only real good part about Classic is leveling, end game is silly and boring.
1 year is way more than plenty.
People want to play classic, but they cant. There are a million people on the server and it is completely impossible to farm anything outdoors.
