Classic Era is dead.
Multiple guilds disbanded / raids called off. No world buffs anymore getting popped, hosting a ZG takes 1,5hrs to fill, items on the AH taking days to sell etc.
Do we have to unsubscribe and re-subscribe in 1 year when SoD is over? Will blizz merge all Era servers? How long will Era stay dead? I tried SoD and didn’t like it (as many others did) why should I be forced into SoD when I wanna play classic wow?

More like 2 years for SoD. This isn’t SoM.
Well the cycle of purging must happen, because game wasn’t designed for endless run, only 3-4 years at max. Also bots really undermine longevity of the project ramping up the inflation. Catching up players have more reasons to play SoD or even go back to HC now as those realms are more fresh with problems of overabundance and inflation not as prominent as in Classic Era.
Yes I think Era is dead.
People loving levelling all gone to HC, people love new and shiny all go to SoD.
But many will also return, but I suspect Blizz every time many return to Era push new level limit on SoD or some other new shiny.
And after SoD over, people so used to getting items, abilities ect on silver platter they won’t many go Era again.
HC will survive, because in its nature to always re-roll.
I hope I am wrong, but fear not. And I hope Era stays alwasys so we have possibility of return when we long for nostalgia fix again.

Era is not dead buffs are getting popped, I fulled my ZG 2days ago in 20min.
Raids happening all week and I am getting benched like crazy.
You just do not know how to find them.

Its certainly not as busy but im getting regular buffs and theres tons of world pvp happening. Corpses everywhere, mobs being farmed.
I think people just exaggerate too much. Its fine to see a dip in numbers.
Era though, is just RMT infested. All the prices are adjusted to people having thousands of gold laying about.
I aggree with OP, playing in firemaw - alliance side and number of players decreased drastically. There are still some players but it is not as it was before. AH items don’t sell quick, trying to farm seems useless and trying to give boosting service seems useless. With thousands of bots unbanned, ironicaly need for gold increase each day and there is no way to make gold coz normal players left for SoD. I hope for big merge, 1 server for PvP and 1 server for PvE is enough for classic.
Who cares like people will come back when they wanna so far sod is great and people gonna keep playing that until it’s not

Question is, what will happen with Cata.
I wouldn’t be against merging and phasing the whole thing up, except there are RP, PvP and PvE servers which are somewhat incompatible. (War mode is sort of a solution for the latter.)
After all, if we put ganking aside…
I’d love to play some classic era, but unfortunately i wrongfully assumed our characters would be safe here compared to private servers, so they are all stuck on wotlk.
Open up transfers again please!
Dont forget that era was almost dead for almsot 2 years before Febrary 2023, when people start quiting WOTLK, I think era will have stable online again when cata hype will be over, in 3 months or so.
Sod doesn’t kill era at all, i don’t think cata will do it.
Server are fine you can still do some pve and pvp you can get ranks the queue time are not that bad on alliance side.
IMO, more Era players would play SoD rather than Cata. I don’t think that Cata will put as much of a dent in Era as SoD is currently doing. SoD is taking up most of my limited game time, but I’m still booting up Era as much as possible.
There are less people but it is no where near dead. Stop being such a drama queen. On horde side which has less people than ally and I am having no problems finding a group for anything I want and multiple AV is popping all day. Ony and neff buff pops multiple times a day still. Every time I log on there is multiple people forming a group for multiple types of raids.
Right now, this is the amount of people that were on a HIGH population realm back in the original vanilla WoW. This is the most whiny sky is falling post I’ve seen yet. It’s honestly laughable you would consider this a “dead” sever.

The only thing they promised is that we won’t lose our SOD characters. Whether they get moved back to Era, or a new Era of discovery is made - it’s still unknown. Also, we don’t know whether it will take only a year. It could be much longer. We have many more phases this time around. It will take months to just get to the level 60 phase.
I still don’t understand how for real people are still believing that sod chars will be ported to era cause they won’t. You literally have items and abilities that aren’t in era you can’t be ported to era. You will just stay on some idn sod era servers or next season servers if not removed completely
