I don’t do mythics on this, never have, hence the disappointment to find profs now gated behind them. That’s kinda the point.
There are people out there (like me) who don’t do such end game content but enjoy world content and rep grinds.
Like everyone else we enjoy having goals to work towards and Ilvl can be a good one.
As this is a crafted gear thread I will keep it specifically to that.
If we could craft gear without having to do raiding and dungeons it would set a goal to work towards.
Obviously it doesnt need to be hand out gear and having it take right up until a few weeks before the new patch would be fine as it would be a long term goal.
Also better gear helps with world content just like it does with raiding and dungeons.
Just because someones version of fun does not conform to your own does not mean that goal should be absent from it.
TBH if that meant that boosting services would be toned down, since a lot of guilds are forced to do it to keep up with gold costs, I’d be all in favour for BoE craftables to return.
Trade chat spam is getting ridiculous.
Even then, all recipes did come from raids even under that standard. Usually took more time to craft one piece and sell than what takes you to unlock the power font right now.
They freed up a lot of time for me, no reason to use altts even for crafting. Just do the WQ that get me pearls now. WoD was the 1st big hit, but you could sell a bit here and there, but generally it wasn’t worth putting it on the AH. Legion mosty was mostly dead and gated… Now it’s dead and gated behind raids.
How they completely managed to ruin a fun system like crafting is beyond me.
I don’t want to promote Final Fantasy, but please dear devs don’t be to proud and simply copy their crafting system and make it worthwhile and fun again.
In several steps.
You have to start with the “why?” to get to the “how?”
They strangled crafting because of their “cyclical playerbase” model they first featured at the start of WoD. Instead of writing a game for people who were continuously subbed, they shifted to writing for people who came back at the start of every patch for a month or two. Instead of writing for people who take satisfaction in building characters, they started writing for people who craved pre-made MOBA or Team Shooter characters.
So they had to remove between-raid or between-dungeon preparation. They needed such preparation as there was to be carefully metered by days rather than by choice and planning.
This had effects in many areas.
In professions, the weakening set-up was the removal of contribution from professions to our character, but the actual death-blow was struck when they removed crafting from our gear. The headline news was the removal of enchants and gems and glyphs, of course. However, there were many more subtle cuts, that bled out the less-featured but wider base of basic crafts for gear for levelling and the newly-dinged, and the new patch crafted gear. The removal of expensive gems and enchants were them scraping off the jam, but the day to day crafts were the bread and butter of professions. They took those away with scaling, with segmenting professions, with providing easily obtained gear superior to that crafters can make, even at basic levels. All gone now.
And every time I think “This has to be the last nail in the coffin for professions …” Blizzard find another nail.
I have both hands/legs 440 with crit/haste equiped and haven’t touched mythic only heroic/normal raiding!
+1 in TBC the last 4 months of the xpac i just used to play to craft clothes armor.
Now i barely try to level my gathering professions. No interest at all. A shame
From what I have seen those craftables are BiS for raiders, depending on the craftable simply because of sockets alone (in case of rings even the 415 one with a socket is BiS and in most cases beat 445 ilvl rings.) Just like the 400 ilvl inscription trinket trumps most mythic raid drop trinkets.
Don’t be fooled by the ilvl tag of them.
I would personally like more options to creep back into professions, which I feel right now only engineering provides. I sometimes miss the endless potions and endless flask of alchemy, or the extra two sockets of blacksmithing.
i think crafting ceased to be a thing when the destination became more important than the journey…i also think that if they made that journey more wholesome then they wouldn’t have to smother people in shiny purples, legendaries and mounts to keep them interested…:s
Not to mention that your work is invalidated in every single patch that comes.
The only use for crafting professions these days is gearing up alts when they reach max level. And even a lot of that is covered anyway by the benthic tokens being BoA.
yes… mining and hernalizing gives a lot of XP. Ive leveled Mop levels just farming mats.
Such a shame…
Crafting is a complete waste of time, they either need to completely re do it and make it a fun side activity to make transmog looks, toys and other cosmetic things or just get rid of it completely. In first month of BFA I levelled up a few crafting skills a little way, then looked at what you could make further up and decided there really was nothing worth making for the time/cost to level the skill. I have not touched crafting since, and when I have made new alts I just give them mining and herbs to earn xp while levelling.
Why not make professions craft customization as well as gear.
It could be mount saddles from Leatherworking or have the Blacksmiths make ornaments that can be attached to gear/armor. Tailors could make unique custom robes to sell and alchemists could be making strange polymorph potions. Only your imagination sets the limit. As it is right now, there is no incentive to level a profession, because whatever item you can make is replaced in the first LFR of the expansion.
This so much. And on top of that gear that is for transmog. It doesn’t even have to all look superduper cool and special, just different styles with different colors. Looking at vanilla crafting recipes and there is lot of nice items and variety (even quality is pretty low), they should keep doing that kind of variety now as well!
I believe this is also not account wide, so my alts have to rebuild it like, and the essence system should be account wide too for example if you are a pure dps class like rogue and you have unlocked all the dps essences+ upgraded them, then on your monk you should have all the dps essences, but not the healer or tank ones since you haven’t unlocked those, if this makes sense.
Nail in the coffin?
This is more like another layer of concrete on top of a long buried coffin.
Dear Blizzard, please make the profession system fun and useful for us non-raiders again. It used to be one of the most fun parts of the game and now it’s not. Why have you changed it so much?
Update.
I was wrong. Oh how wrong I was.
Still don’t have the 440 trinket, and I’m still locked away from it due to not enough bosskills in the Palace. Meanwhile it also seems that I won’t benefit much from it anymore, but time will show as some stat, gear and essence adjustments might change that, but right now the 440 one seems to possibky be a downgrade already. Trying out my options, and haven’t quite settled for what I would benefit the most from yet, based on my raid team synergy.
