I agree, but to play devil’s advocate, streamers have benefited from this exploit and should get the same punishment for taking advantage as the next person.
I feel that there are still salty feelings from players about the preferential beta access Blizzard gave out.
Said treatment has probably hit the minds of said individuals and there are most likely worries that Blizzard will give certain streamers a pass because they premote Blizzard’s product.
It doesnt matter who you are, if you’ve taken part, you should be punished and the punishment should be consistant.
Which streamers? The only one I’ve seen is Esfand’s and they only proceeded after having received Blizzard’s permission to do so, so there is no way they are going to get punished for that instance.
Haven’t watched the stream, but apparently the “ok” he got was simply an educated guess from a former Blizzard employee, with the advice that they only kill but not loot the bosses that respawned. The raid went on and looted the bosses regardless.
The above is confirmed on stream, but apparently there are numerous guilds who’ve used some form of layering exploit to respawn select bosses in order farm specific items/patterns, without having to run the instance from scratch.
It’s the latter that disrupts a realm’s economy and progression and that’s the reason everyone is incensed about. Even if the perpetrators are banned, the proceeds of their exploits have entered the larger economy, but I’m skeptical anyone but the most extreme cases will get more than a slap on the wrist.
You need to understand that the devs are human at the end of the day, and just like in every other workplace there are office politics and egos and competing visions. The whole layering fiasco is likely something that the dev team wants to sweep under the rug as soon as possible. I don’t expect them making waves by banning major streamers or launching layer-free realms, which would essentially bring even more attention to the fact that the leadership completely bombed the launch.

More on the topic (Esfand commentary and more):
Also AFAIK ads respawn if (some) bosses are up so theoretically you can farm respawning ads (but it takes time).
Minimum punishment is that you deleted not only the gear and gold, but also the character.
They can restart from 0.
Permabanning or even temp banning account is bs, because that’s just you trying to get more money from a situation that’s ultimate result of your own screw ups.
But if the numbers are in tens of thousands of accounts and you dont take harsh actions, I’m just quitting the game. This was such a game breaking exploit and classic was your last chance of regaining some of the integrity you’ve lost under activision.

That right there is a separate matter altogether to the layering abuses, farming respawning trash was generally seen as a legitimate activity during vanilla/tbc, and generally the drop rates were balanced to take into account the practice.

If this doesn’t lead to bans, and I mean permanent bans of the people who participated in this, then Blizzard failed the community.
And no, your “high profile streamers” are not above your rule. If anything, they should be held to higher standards than anyone else.

Not if you delete the exploiters accounts so they have to start all over again.
Just make their characters level 1 again.

Blizzard Chill!
Common sense dictates they cannot be trusted with what they say. They proven that over and over during the last 10+ years.
Anyone with a few brain cells can understand that all theese exploits from lounch until now has greatly affected all kinds of aspects of the game and completly ruined the vanilla experiance.

Yeah, I exploited as hell with my 37 lvl Hunter
I want them to be banned. All of them. Both layers lvling abusers and those that gained monet from it. But I’m not going to sit here and pretend that SOMEHOW someone elses lvl is ruining MINE experience to the point that i just DONT SEE A REASON TO PLAY ANYMORE. Its just stupid - stop being stupid guys.
They cheated using exploits. That was or is against the terms of using the service. Delete their characters and please do something against these random gold selling channels I get invited to from time to time. The economy on a new realm is very fragile, and may spell doom for entire realms if over-inflated early.

i hope blizzard bans all ppl, streamer or no streamer! just laughable and this must be punished hard, its such an overpowerd thing to have more items in the raid than intended

There is nothing that can be done now to fix it, dont you people get it?
Only fresh servers without all theese exploits are the awnser.
The exploiters have allready moved all there stuff to safe places just like bank robbers do, so even when they get cought and punished they still got the money waiting for them when they get out.

I was so naive… i really thought we could have vanilla as it was then… but no there HAD to be a GAMEBREAKING bug abuse, that destroys the entire servers economy… IF and SW on my server is swarming with lvl 60s on epic mounts wearing full MC epics and 2/2 tier 2 epics Ragnaros Legs and Onyxia Helmet… HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE ? how can ALL these ppl have 2x TIER 2 ??? when the game was almost just released, they only drop 2 ffs oh right… they all bug abused like CRAZY …spawning full MC runs and onyxia AGAIN AND AGAIN untill they where all swimming in epics. it really destroys the game for everyone else. Dont even get me started with AH, look at the rare patterns that was farmed from bosses, they are worthless being sold at 50-100g each.

You have any prooves they did it?
You cannot fix what was done already. Servers economies are beyond repair.
The only possible solution is to clear wipe all servers and let people start anew with layering disabled. Please Blizzard do it.
