as a fellow genius with controversial opinions i can understand xyao’s dismay over having his words buried. but it’s important to never lose faith in your cause and to keep spreading your message.
What I meant specifically is where the topic of discussion keeps getting derailed by either nonsense or insult. If someone starts a thread talking about customisations they want to see in game, and a poster starts going on about how racial diversity in skintones is wrong because XYZ I’d say it’s derailing because:
- the post is about what people want to see, not what they don’t.
- the individual critiquing the skintones is drawing the topic away from the original discussion and into the realm of a different topic (to what extent wow should reflect reality or whatnot).
I haven’t assumed the poster is using inflammatory language when doing so. All the same their post is derailing the topic and every time they reiterate this or someone replies (whether in defense or opposition to them) it details it further.
This isn’t cancel culture, because the individual is bringing up stuff that has nothing to do with the discussion at hand and is a emotive topic that will probably be picked up and derailed further.
I similarly don’t expect my stay at a wine appreciation convention to last long if I decide to use my ten minute speaking slot to talk about the ethics of and exploitations of farm and vineyard workers. Wrong place, wrong time, however well intentioned.
That’s what I was referring to.
ye and its blizzards fault to cater to those fragile people… grow a thicker skin…
its not the people its the system …
It’s quite ironic for someone to call other people childish yet spend their time trying to ‘trigger’ others.
The inquisition is real friend,
If you don’t side with them they will hunt you down, with their friendly/censorship behavior
Another analogy would be to announce a mobile game at a gamesmeet dedicated to a PC game.
Sorry I laughed out loud when I read that XD
Are you saying that you don’t have a phone Bagdawg?
I have a landline, and that’s it.
And that’s all you need
Why do players regularly post on forums…they do it for threads like this one, just look at the response it’s getting.
So it’s a mistake to think its just the minority.
I post on forums for two reasons…
-
Winning and…
-
Having a laugh.
If you don’t like what someone has to say just put the person on ignore, this idea that they should be perma-banned because they disagree with you is a bit much.
No one can make you upset, offended, or angry without your consent.
Most people break-down emotionally when someone disagrees with them, me, I couldn’t care any less, they have their opinion and I have mines.
Just a reminder, the ignore function is meant to serve as an extra safeguard, it’s not an excuse to break the forum rules or to be crass or downright rude to other posters.
It’s not there as a solution, but as an extra protection while Blizzard are still investigating things.
As far as I know, you can put someone on ignore for basically anything.
I only have one of those for the internet
Oh, I mean yeah you can. You can effectivly use it to simply avoid seeing someone, but it doesnt change the fact that it doesnt give a free-pass to not adhere to the posting rules/keeping decent general behaviour.
One issue I have with any ignore function is that you start to see one sided discussions and put yourself in a position of making a comment not based on the whole story. This is one of the reasons I very rarely use ignore features.
You ignore players that aren’t breaking the rules but you can’t stand them, they make your blood boil.
If they’re breaking the rules, just simply report them so they don’t get a free-pass?
Fair point yeah, I was simply clarifying.
Tbh I only use ignore for a few posters that I know I won’t get any constructive engagement out of so it’s not worth my time to bother with them. The forums have been far less stressy without seeing them about (except in quotes which is a minor nuisance)
I don’t have time or energy to deal with a certain type of person irl or online so they go into the void
That’s rather unfair. You don’t want to use the ignore function, but you would rather have someone banned indefinitely just because you don’t like what they are saying? That’s selfish and unfair.
Look, some people won’t share your opinion, it’s a fact. If you can’t accept that then perhaps you are the one who should consider stepping away from a forum.
And if this rule would be applied fairly it would backfire on quite a few people here.
There’s this idea that’s being forced on these forums by the behavior of certain people that enforces the idea that if you don’t have the right opinion, you shouldn’t have one at all. But when that opinion is not against the rules, we have a major issue here.
