classes really feel bad compared to other mmos on wow’s level. all casters are basically the same. none of the melee dps classes feel unique . i know people think it was better back then but no, wotlk has the same issue maybe not this much but it does have. i love wow but none of the classes have fun gameplay. neither in wotlk nor in retail. in wotlk it’s 2 skill per class(with some exceptions) in retail it’s the same playstyle with different visuals. wow needs a big change on class designs and i think they’re aware of that problem maybe even tried to do it with df changes but failed.

Last time I left bear form when I was tanking was when I accidentally fatfingered a heal that made me go caster form and I instantly died.

But I of all people do know. And so do you. But I think we’re talking a bit past each other here, and I’ll get to that in the end.
Okay, here’s the problem: Each of these shapeshift forms directly corresponds with a single specialization. If I am Guardian I am spending nearly 100% of my time in Bear Form to mitigate damage because mitigating damage is what I do. The extent of my shapeshifting is basically shifting out to move to the next pack because I can’t be mounted in Bear Form.
There is no reason for a Guardian Druid to go Cat Form. It’s just a plain bad idea. There is no reason for Guardian Druid to go Moonkin Form. It’s just a plain bad idea. Except for that Mage Tower thing, but that’s… really out there. It’s a tank fight where nothing is attacking you and you can’t melee the target. Any reason to even take Moonkin spells is that it gatekeeps the extended melee range.
For Feral, you don’t want to leave Cat Form. You don’t need to, either. You don’t need to for dispels or for resurrections, etc. The only case where you need to is if you want to hard-cast CC, which in PvE you never do. I am not aware of what Druids might be doing on Raszageth though, but if that’s the extent of our examples… that’s not enough.
In PvP it happens that you need to go into Bear Form, but this very quickly turns into a downward spiral. Without the Guardian Druid mastery your healer will run OOM trying to heal your massive health pool and the damage you take is practically unchanged because so much damage in PvP is bleed or elemental. And if you can’t get out fast you lose the game due to the outrageously low damage you deal. It’s not useless to do it, and I do it, but it’s nothing like in WotLK or tBC where I would use Bear Form for crowd control or just sit in it for up to a minute because it was the best counter to my opponent’s strategy to do so.
Moonkins are the same thing. If you’re leaving Moonkin form you’re probably making a mistake. Travel Form occassionally makes sense, but that’s about it.
The only Druid I am aware of that uses shapeshifting in an interesting way is Restoration.
Indeed, let’s not mention that because it’s really not shapeshifting, as in the verb. It is the state of being shapeshifted. There really is nothing preventing a feral druid from literally never leaving Cat Form for a whole dungeon. You go into Cat Form before it begins and you stay in it for 30 minutes and that’s it.
Is that shapeshifting? Well… that’s up for interpretation I suppose, but from where I’m standing it feels like being a rogue on four legs.
Then there’s the… psuedoshiftng. Not sure what to call this, but it’s a form of shapeshifting where you don’t make an active choice to click a form, but instead using a spell off the GCD shapeshifts you. So the most optimal way to get into Cat Form is not pressing Cat Form, it’s actually pressing Tiger’s Fury.
There’s a reason Druids had 3 specs and one of them blended Bear and Cat. Splitting these two destroyed both, and that’s the reason I’m a mage today, and I’m still salty.

Stampeding Roar - the tooltip when you mouse over the ability says “switch into bear form to…” but once the ability is on your action bars it no longer says that and you can use that in any form.
Soothe - Usable in all shapeshift forms…
Mark of the Wild - Usable in all shapeshift forms…
Moonfire - talents can make it usable in all shapeshift forms… [this kind of thing I am okay with personally.]
Renewal - Usable in all shapeshift forms… Used to be the only spell in the current list that behaved like that… How far we have sunk!
Regrowth - Usable in moonkin form…
Hibernate - Usable in all shapeshift forms…
Tiger Dash - shapeshift and sprint is under one button by default…
Prowl - shapeshift and stealth is under one button by default
Tiger Fury - damage increase and shapeshift under one button…
Remove Corruption - Usable in all shapeshift forms.
Mass Entanglement - Usable in all shapeshift forms.
Mighty Bash - Usable in all shapeshift forms.
I could go on… But you get the point.
As you can see, convenience has destroyed class fantasy and class identity.
As an aside, in Dragonflight, a shadow priest can cast all holy spells in Shadowform as well.

Also it is crazy to think that the community has better ideas than the creative team of wow. I am talking about Hardcore Classic and so many addons. It shows the luck of creativity and vision from current people that run the show.
