Ganking lowbies

Play on pve server, also those ppl perhaps are 14 yo and got nothin better to do than ganking other ppl just coz nobody gonna play with them. One of the reason im on PVE realm its because it has a “tardfix” by default…

I would like to raise attention to the issue of low-level ganking in World of Warcraft Classic. While the developers have put a lot of effort into policing unacceptable player behavior and chat, ganking of new and lower-level players is rampant and is ruining the gameplay experience for many.

Ganking refers to higher-level players preying on and killing lower-level players who have no chance to defend themselves. This behavior is essentially bullying and griefing, making parts of the world unplayable for new players. Many are driven away from the game due to the frustration and negative experience.

I propose that the developers implement some measures to curb excessive ganking:

Temporarily flag gankers for PvP with other gankers. If a high-level player kills many lower-level players in a short time span, they get flagged as a “ganker” and can be attacked by other gankers. This makes the behavior less appealing and introduces risk for the gankers themselves.

Increase the respawn rate of lower-level players after being killed by much higher-level players. This reduces the frustration and time lost, allowing them to get back into playing more quickly.

Provide some safe zones and protection for very new players. For example, players under level 10 cannot be attacked if the level difference is too high. This allows genuine newbies to learn the ropes without too much griefing.

These are just some suggestions. In general, I urge the developers to pay attention to ganking as a significant problem that can drive new players away and deteriorate the game experience. With some adjustments, ganking can be curbed and a more welcoming environment can be created for new players. What do others think about this issue? How else can ganking be reduced while still allowing for open-world PvP?

You rolled on a pvp server and you’re now sitting here crying about getting ganked

Deal with it or re-reroll on a pve server

I understand that ganking is part of the open-world PvP experience on PvP servers, but that does not mean it should be unchecked or that new players should just have to deal with excessive ganking. The suggestions I proposed aim to curb the most egregious ganking behaviors that drive new players away, while still allowing for legitimate PvP encounters. Some moderation can improve the gameplay experience for all and make the game more welcoming for newbies, which ultimately benefits the long-term health of the server and game. Simply dismissing the issue and telling new players to re-roll is not a constructive solution.

Yes they should. Its literally the game. You people are unbelievable, the damage you do to this MMORPG.

Oh, of course, ganking is just a core part of the PvP experience, we should just keep subjecting new players to ceaseless ganks. Because who doesn’t love being endlessly killed by high levels with no chance to fight back? That kind of bullying gameplay is exactly what keeps players happily subscribed for years to come!

I probably missed this, but are you playing on Wrath?
If so this is Era general discussion, so it’s out of place since the two communities couldn’t be more different.
That goes in https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/c/wow-classic/wrath-of-the-lich-king-classic-discussion/288

Blizzard have said that ganking is part of a PvP realm, if you don’t like it then roll on the PvE Cluster.

Blizzard will only do something in the case of extreme ganking, which is a huge amount of ganking of one player by another single player, probably stopping someone playing for days. If your own faction players won’t come to your aid then you have to put up with it. We don’t want the game woke-washing.

Thats the game. Thats exactly how it was in 2004 and yes, people happily subscribed.

What does that even mean? Like they are marked like a dot on a map or something? Useless imo. People will more actively gank lowbies just to get the mark. I’m pretty sure 100% about it because that’s what I’d do.

It will juste incite gankers to camp you more. Usually when I do kill some grey I just kill them once, but with your proposition it will be at least 3 camps per kill for sure.

Under level 10? You got Elwynn forest, you won’t be ganked out there.

To be serious, people surestimate skull level, numbers beat level differences. It happens many times where a group of lowbies can take down a skull.

These are just suggestions for how ganking could be curbed while preserving open-world PvP. They may not appeal to everyone, but the goal is to open discussion on how to make the gameplay environment more welcoming for new players while still allowing for legitimate PvP. If you have other ideas on how to achieve this, please share - the more constructive discussion, the better.

The ‘ganker’ flag would literally mark gankers on the map so that lower-level players could avoid those locations and steer clear of the gankers. This would help prevent ganking victims, while also allowing ganker-hunters to track down the gankers. By making gankers’ locations visible and introducing risk of retaliation, it reduces their ability to freely prey on lower-levels and adds deterrence to ganking, helping to curb the behavior.

After being ganked, I often have to respawn at a graveyard far from my questing area and use a hearthstone or rez sickness, and sometimes log off for hours until the gankers have left the area.

My suggestion was unclear. I meant that if the level difference is very high, e.g. 10+ levels, there could be penalties to curb ganking.
Exceptions do not disprove rules. Reasonable limits could deter extreme ganking and unwelcoming behavior, even if not foolproof.

In summary, I propose that killing very low-level players (grays) results in a ‘dishonorable kill’ that reduces honor and PvP rank. This consequence could deter higher-level players from excessive ganking of newbies, while still allowing legitimate PvP. By reducing rewards for ganking and introducing risk to gankers’ standings, it makes the behavior less appealing and could curb the most egregious ganking. Of course, there is no perfect solution, but this could be one measure among others to explore in balancing PvP and support for new players.

I get why you are trying to do it but even new players need to get used to being ganked constantly and to be honest, from what I know of these gankers, a marker and losing PvP rank will not bother them.

You dont get to choose what “legitimate PvP” is. All PvP is legitimate. The game is welcoming to new players as it always has been, with PvP in all forms.

If you think the game is fine as-is and ganking doesn’t need to be addressed, then try leveling a new character on a PvP server and doing quests in zones like Hillsbrad and Stranglethorn Vale that see a lot of ganking these days. After experiencing the current reality of constant ganking, compare that experience to your views before leveling the character. Don’t base your arguments on outdated experiences from a time when ganking may have been less severe. See for yourself what the new player experience is like in the current state of the game before saying that it’s welcoming for new players or that ganking isn’t a problem that needs to be reduced.

Ive done exactly that. I know how this game is. Your whole mindset is a cancer for the MMORPG genre.

PvP has never and will never be a problem on PvP servers.

bad argument when the only server with even a barely viable pop happens to be the pvp one

There’s no need for personal attacks here. We have different perspectives - let’s discuss the issues rather than labeling viewpoints as “cancer”.
Simply stating “PvP has never and will never be a problem on PvP servers” ignores arguments that ganking, as opposed to all PvP, can be excessive or harmful for new players. Reasonable people can disagree on this, so we should address specific concerns and experiences rather than making absolute claims.

Just don’t play PvP server.

I choose Mirage raceway since start because i knew people were going to gank like this

sorry but i’ve never actually experienced, EVER, this fictionary griefing people always talk about in STV. i’m being dead serious. to clarify, yes 60s may pass by and kill you but its an EXTREMELY rare occurence and often only happens when you’re running along the main road

i don’t know what you’re doing but it sounds like you are all pissing off some 60’s low level alt and refusing to move out of the area whilst they blow off some steam lmfao.

and i’m a big pvper, i’ve leveled hundreds of character and never had this griefing problem.

i’m literally tempted to stream my entire leveling experience just to dismiss this fictional reality

No youre objectively wrong. If you think PvP on a PvP server of a videogame can be harmful to new players youre too mentally unstable to be on the internet.

Guess what, there are versions of the game where world pvp has been crippled with flying and other “features”, which is why people wanted Classic back in the first place.
