Get rid of layering and spell batching

They’re just an invitation to exploit.

On paper they sound great but if you can’t be bothered to put the necessary resources into coding them correctly, testing them and making them work as intended then they do more damage than good.

You could argue that layering was a necessary evil for launch and that it’s still needed on a few realms but spell batching adds nothing…Or maybe I’m living in a bubble. Anyone here actually like spell batching, besides the people exploiting it ?

Yes, remove them both (or fix the spell batching).

Report players who switch layers, i started to report it as cheating with the description “Layer abuse”.

Spell batching was a big part of vanilla pvp. Removing it because you think it adds nothing is a silly argument.

What is spell batching anyway?

So if I am questing and mining in EPL and I get invited to a strat group and a node spawns in front of me I should get reported and punished for mining it?

Well that’s just half the argument, the other half is that it opens the door to exploits.

Why should you? That was not intentional layer switching. I report the ones who ask in chat to get a layer invite.

Do you experience a weird delay sometimes? That’s spell batching but not working as supposed to.

In vanilla Blizzard server updated it self with information of player actions every 0.3 sec or something like that. Back then the servers were unable to tell the order in which the actions in those 0.3 seconds were performed so they were all performed simultaneously effectively. This leads to situations in which two mages and sheep each other if they cast sheep at about the same time for example.

Not what you said, but ok. Report those who find a clever way to use game mechanics?

You can name it that way, for me it’s exploiting game mechanics.

Set pop cap to 3.5k and remove layers.

Right, so because you feel a different way than other people, they should be reported?

Seems a bit late for that. Also, 3.5k from the get-go is waaaaaay to low

It comes from logical thinking, not feeling. And yes exploiting should be reported.

Spell batching is stupid because it’s artificial lag coded in by developers to simulate lag-induced behaviour from vanilla wow when technology was slower.

Just remove it and adjust accordingly - just because we are recreating classic wow doesn’t mean we have to recreate the technology too

You can call it exploiting but it’s not the type of exploiting that is against the terms of service since no bug is involved. Asking for layers is simply using a feature that is working as intended. Yeah it sucks that it is happening in a Vanilla remake but this one is all on Blizzard and not the players.

That sounds incorrect

Do you experience a weird delay all the time on instant cast spells - do you hear the ‘that spell is not ready’ announcement

Is it hard to cancel auto cast or auto attack to hit an ability

That’s spell batching - every class suffers from it

Macros don’t send script to the API to avoid the spell batching delay - that was removed

  • so it can’t be bypassed

That’s the maximum a Vanilla Realm could hold, so it’s actually a little high. Most Realms had fewer players online than that and it was more than enough.

Most Realms have been greatly overpopulated since launch, so rather than too late, it is about high time they fix it.

You waste your time and you waste time of game master.

You can’t be ban for swapping layer, this is an intended game mechanic.

Spell batching in contrast, should be removed imho. It’s horrible, like for example you can get stuck in a freeze trap zone and you are not in the trap, but you are slow for 2 or 3 more seconds. Sometime, Mage Blizzard not slowing with talent because of spell batching delay the slow effect. And i guess all classe have issue with that.

I don’t think anybody is ever going to be banned for this, however intentional layer swapping is not an intended game mechanic at all. Layering expands a servers basic limit of creatures and resources dynamically, from the moment you log in. It was not an “ah there are no mobs here, let me ask some random dude to invite me so i can jump to a different layer” idea. That is a consequence and side effect of the original functionality, it was not designed to enable players to circumvent natural spawn rates, outside of a fairly populated layer.

Will players do it? Very few and only a specific kind of person. Do they deserve banning? Not really, blizzard were probably well aware of the likelihood of people doing this, but that doesn’t mean it’s an intended feature, more so - an unavoidable consequence.

I get 1 or 2 whispers every few days when I log to my banking alt, asking me to invite them to layer swap. It’s odd how the names are always so similar
